Chapter Sixty-nine

Charles and Norah sat side by side on the bed in their bedroom, their fingers intertwined. It had been two days since they'd made the courageous decision not to succumb to the Adams family's blackmail demands, and an unexpected sense of relief had settled upon them.

Charles gazed out of the window, his once furrowed brow now smoothed by the passage of time. “Norah,” he began, “I can’t believe it’s been two days since that deadline passed, and we haven’t heard a word from the Adams family.”

Norah nodded, her eyes reflecting the same mix of surprise and relief. “You know,” she said, her voice tinged with determination, “I think they realized we won’t be pushed around anymore. We’ve got the evidence to expose their corrupt practices, and they know it.”

Charles nodded in agreement. “You’re right, Norah. We’ve collected enough evidence over the weeks to bring them to justice. We can’t let them get away with their crimes any longer.”
