Chapter Thirty-nine

Charles rushed through the sterile white corridors of the city’s general Hospital, his heart pounding in sync with his hurried footsteps. The harsh fluorescent lights overhead cast shadows of him as he walked. He had come here every day since the fire at Oscorp, the one that had nearly taken Norah’s life. His love for her was an unquenchable fire, burning brighter with each passing day of her hospitalization.

Norah lay in her hospital bed, her face brighter today but fragile against the sheets. Machines beeped softly in the background, and the scent of antiseptic hung in the air. Her eyes brightened more at the sight of Charles, and a weak smile touched her lips.

“Charles,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Charles took her hand gently, his eyes filled with concern. “How are you feeling today, love?”

Norah sighed, her eyes drifting to the window. “Better, I suppose. But I’m so tired of being here.”
