Chapter Four

In accordance to the promise Peter made to Lisa, when they got into a cab, he immediately asked the driver to take them to the paradise hotel in the city.

It was an incredibly large and tall building that seemed to reach up to the sky.

Getting to the reception, the guy behind the desk looked at Peter strangely along with the girl he was carrying in his arms. Peter knew the man was about to look down on him, so before he could even speak, Peter dropped cash on the desk.

"I'd like the best suite to spend the night please."

The receptionist who was about to tell Peter off, seeing the cash immediately changed his expression, "Certainly sir. Please come with me."

Peter was led to the most opulent looking room he'd ever seen in his life. Lisa was amazed by such a setting, she couldn't stop looking around.

That evening was the most memorable Peter had ever had in his life. Eating luxury meals ordered from room service, taking a bath in a jacuzzi.

However, the next morning, Peter got up bright and early carrying Lisa he checked out of the hotel, because he already had a goal in mind.

Buying a house at the golden villas.

The cab Peter called for drove them into the golden villas located at the suburbs in town.

Golden villas were the most opulent residences in town, the houses were the most luxurious and expensive in the whole country. The people living there were mostly elites and highly influential people.

There were five buildings at the golden villas, each one of them 40 stories tall. Each unit was about a thousand square meters giving them a gigantic price.

It was truly a place only for the wealthy.

After living an incredibly hard life running three jobs to take care of his treacherous girlfriend and his little sister, Peter felt like it was time for him to live his best life.

Peter had always admired the golden villa houses because he worked there in the mornings as a janitor, it was one of his three jobs. He had once said to himself,

'If I ever become a successful man, I'll buy the most luxurious house here just for me Lisa, and Stacie to live in.'

Looking back now, Peter felt immensely disappointed at all the stupid things he'd done for Stacie just to make her happy, in the end she hadn't just betrayed him, but humiliated him along with that Joey who'd never worked a day in his life but completely depended on his father's money.

Lisa was incredibly excited to get to ride in a cab twice, it was as if she still hadn't come to terms with their change in lifestyle, though riding a cab was considered nothing for most people, to them it was a big luxury. He began to think about purchasing all the cars he'd ever dreamt of owning.

The cab looked extremely small and out of place when it drove into a pack of expensive shiny luxury cars.

When they finally arrived at the golden villas, Peter carried Lisa on his back and climbed up the steps that led him into a spacious lobby where a few sales ladies were dressed in uniforms.

The few ladies immediately looked up thinking it was an important customer, but seeing a skinny looking young man carrying a girl on his back, they all immediately looked away and resumed their work.

"Who's that?"

"Isn't he the janitor? Why is he coming in here carrying a girl? Look how dirty his shoes are, he's going to dirty the nice floors."

"We won't have to worry about that, since he'll be the one cleaning the floors himself."

"Hey, you there! Why are you late to work today? Do you think you're being paid to just come to work at whatever time you want?" Peter was stopped by the head of janitorial services of the whole villa, Harry, a young man wearing an old suit. He used to be a janitor himself until he got promoted, he'd immediately become haughty after then.

"I'm not here to work." Peter remarked succinctly. Then made to walk past the head of janitors towards the lobby but the man stubbornly blocked his path once more angered at the fact that Peter wasn't begging and apologizing.

"Where do you think you're going, and what do you mean you're not here to work? You came here some months ago to ask for advance payment for this month, and since I'm magnanimous, I agreed to pay you. But now you're saying you're not here to work? Can someone like you even afford to step into this place if not for work? Hurry up and get to cleaning this place up!"

Annoyed that the man's loud voice might be scaring Lisa, Peter frowned deeply saying the words, "I said I'm not here to work, I'm quitting my job here."

The man was slightly taken aback before he chuckled incredulously, "Quitting? Are you out of your mind? Do you think you can just come in here and say you quit after scamming us and taking an advance salary? How ridiculous! Coming here carrying a disabled girl on your back just to beg for alms, you'd rather take charity than work for your keep! Youths like you are lazy and useless."

"What's going on here?" Mr Phillips, the manager of the Golden villas heard the commotion, he frowned noticing the head janitor yelling at a skinny looking boy who'd walked into the lobby, in order for their transactions not to be disrupted, he immediately walked up to them to see the cause of the ruckus.

Harry's expression immediately changed upon the arrival of the manager. He bowed in greeting before answering the question, "This boy here is one of our janitors. He came to me for an advance salary payment and I gave it to him, but now he comes here saying he wants to resign. I'm sure he's noticed that only rich people come here, so he went on to carry some weak girl to gain sympathy and receive alms." Harry spat bitterly.

Peter could tolerate himself getting insulted, but he absolutely hated people hurling insults at his sister.

Harry had always been very proud and haughty, having the position of head janitor he tried to lord over all the other janitors there.

Even when Peter had asked for an advance payment because he'd wanted to get Stacie a gift, Harry had given him a condition that taking the advance would mean that he wouldn't be getting the next month's salary, it would be like a form of interest on a loan. Peter had been desperate, and since it wasn't his only job he had agreed.

And Peter had already worked for the month he took an advance, he was currently working the second month which Harry had said he wouldn't be getting a salary. They both knew that money would be going to Harry's pocket, but Peter had no right to report him then since he had been the one to agree to it, so he decided to quietly endure it.

The manager looked at Peter with a slightly displeased frown, however, years of experience on the job led him to not say any rude words to the boy even though he knew the boy wasn't a potential customer.

"Young man, you can't quit when you have received advance payment." Mr Phillips said calmly.

"I have already worked for the advance I received. I'm not just here to quit, but I want to buy one of the units."

Harry couldn't control his laughter, it felt like he'd just heard an incredibly hilarious joke. "You think you can get out of trouble by just claiming you want to buy one of the houses here? Can you even afford to buy a slipper, and you talk about buying a unit at the golden villas."

"I'll have you know that our houses range from 10 million dollars to over 100 million dollars. These houses are..."

"I'd still like to purchase one." Peter replied decisively.

"Mr Phillips, this guy is just here to cause a scene. With your permission I'd like to call the police, he took money but he's refusing to work for it."

Lisa timidly tightened her hand around Peter's shirt feeling scared about what was happening. "Let's leave brother."

"It's alright Lisa, don't worry." He patted her hand comfortingly.

Mr Phillips seemed to be in thought for a while as if contemplating the idea of letting Harry call the police. In the end he shrugged, "Alright young man, I'll let you check out the units, if you make a purchase, then I guess we have no problem, but if you don't...then I'm afraid we'll have to call the police."

Peter nodded, "I can agree to that."

Harry humphed, "Big mistake boy, you'll be landing yourself in jail."

Harry's treatment towards Peter had gotten even worse when he'd seen him with Stacie once before.

How could a useless janitor like him have a beautiful girl like that? He didn't deserve it.

Hence out of all the employees, Harry disliked Peter the most and he did everything to show him who was boss.

Peter followed Mr Phillips to the lobby where all the sales ladies got on their feet to address Mr Phillips.

"Show him around the units." Mr Phillips instructed.

Janice, one of the sales ladies eyed Peter with slight contempt, she felt like it was a complete waste of time to go around showing a pauper a place he couldn't even afford, so she suggested.

"Why don't we just show him the pictures here? Going to the units would be a waste of time. Besides, the young man looks unkept, it might just dirty all the clean places."

Frowning slightly, Mr Phillips didn't like her condescension, however he kept quiet nodding in agreement letting them show Peter the pictures instead.

Harry was eagerly standing aside waiting for Peter to admit he couldn't afford it so he could quickly call the police. He'd already squandered the money supposed to be Peter's salary, now that the boy wanted to quit, he didn't want the manager knowing about it lest he lost his job.

Peter didn't even go through the pictures displayed for him on a tablet, already knowing what he wanted, he stated straightforwardly.

"I'd like unit one please."

There was silence for a few seconds everyone struck dumb by his decision.

Unit one was the special building reserved for one of the most popular celebrities in the country. Though the man hadn't made the purchase yet, he had still shown interest in it, hence they didn't display it on sales.

Harry laughed clapping his hands together, "This is really interesting, we're living in this boy's delusions. Just admit you're messing with us and calmly go to jail."

Mr Phillips sent Harry a glance to shut him up, however he was also trying hard to control himself. He could already tell this kid was just messing with them, unit one was far beyond his reach, in fact all of the units were beyond his reach. Yet Mr Phillips kept his cool, it was the protocol of his job and he couldn't just disregard anyone who claimed to be a customer.

"Young man, are you sure? That unit is the most expensive..."

"I'll take it." Peter didn't wait for him to finish, he spoke decisively.

He'd always been eyeing that unit but didn't even dare to think it could be his someday, but now that he had all that money, he could get anything he wants.

Harry rolled his eyes then secretly excused himself to the side and called the police. What was the need to hesitate? The boy would soon make a fool of himself anyway, it was best to have the police men on standby.

"He even sounds so arrogant, Harry is right, this is just this guy's delusions. Does he think he can walk in here and just waste our time?"

"Hmph, other than his skinny appearance, his face isn't that bad, if he turns out to be rich..."

"Can't you see what he's wearing, he's definitely just a poor loser."

"But you might never know Janice, what if he's actually secretly a rich guy?"

"There's no way someone that looks like this can be rich enough to buy unit one. If he's able to afford it, I'll buy everyone working at the golden villas lunch for a year."

As the sales ladies were whispering among each other, Mr Phillips asked.

"Unit one has the best views, set against the backdrop of the city, on the left side you can also get the full view of the ocean. The current price is 150 million dollars, unnegotiable. Will you like to make payments now for the purchase?"

"Yes please, I'll pay via card."

As Peter brought out his crooked looking card. Everyone except Mr Phillips who still maintained a professional stance laughed uncontrollably. Seeing the card the boy wanted to swipe, Mr Phillips confirmed in his head that this was all a sham.

Harry had already called the cops and was waiting to see the cops drag Peter out of there, just then a ding sound came indicating the payment approval. The laughter immediately quietened down and the large lobby fell silent.

A hundred and fifty million dollars had been paid from that rusty card in a second.

Everyone's jaws dropped.
