Chapter 44

After getting his keys from the office, Derek went straight home with Catherine.

The ride was unusually quiet to Derek's surprise. Although he had nothing to say to her, he expected her to at least try to make the ride worth it.

Just to lighten the mood, he played background music through the car's stereo, some of which his wife hummed to.

Finally, they were home. Derek killed the ignition and went down from the car, Catherine doing the same from the other end.

As they approached their apartment, Derek was sure he noticed something by the mailbox attached to the door. It looked like they had a letter.

He wanted to be the first to read the content of the supposed letter so he walked a tad bit faster, getting to the door in time to pick the letter from the box.

"What's that?" Catherine asked him as he checked where the letter came from.

"I think it's a notice," he pointed out.

"From who?"

"The bank…" then he looked up to face her. "Your bank."

"Oh."
