Chapter 4

A few days after the supposed incident, Catherine was finally coming home. And despite Derek's complicated feelings, he still took his time to prepare her a delicious meal to eat.

"I'm coming," he announces right after he hears the sound of the doorbell. Some seconds ago, he heard the sound of a car pulling up in front of the apartment.

He had just finished setting up the table so he quickly rushed over to the door to get it. When he opens it, he finds Catherine standing there with a bag in her hand.

Catherine was still as beautiful as ever. Her petite structure was one to die for and there was no doubt that her facial beauty still has Derek mesmerized even after years of marriage to her.

One thing he found strange was the fact that she has a long sleeved top on which he thought wasn't appropriate for the weather.

Perhaps it was as a result of where she was coming from. That was the thought he used to wash out any negative presumption he had about the initial thought.

A smile makes its way to Catherine's face as she drops the bag on the floor and then quickly spread her arms wide to envelope Derek into a hug.

Derek doesn't pull away from it. Instead he relishes the moment because even if he was skeptical about the things she was doing, he still loved her.

"I missed you so much, baby," Catherine says as she pulls out of the embrace.

"I did too," Derek flashes her a smile when he says that. He then picks up the bag before they both walk into the living room of the apartment.

"I cooked," he announced as he heads up the stairs to drop the bag in their room.

After he successfully put the bag down, he picked up the box that contained the skirt and then took it downstairs.

He left the box in the living room to join Catherine in the dining. She had already began eating the meal he cooked for her.

"This is so delicious, baby. Thank you very much," she appreciates him. "And thank you for keeping the house so tidy. You're the best."

He could only force a smile in return. It took him a lot not to bring up the conversation about the skirt to her. He knew it was not the right time.

Once she was done eating, she left him to go freshen up in the room while he tended to the dishes and cutleries. He then proceeded to patiently wait for her in the living room.

Catherine came out dressed in a long sleeved pyjama. The moment she sits, Derek shows her the box.

"What do you know about this?" he asks her, his voice stern to reflect he was not playing around.

"Did you get me a gift?" Catherine asks in return, her eyes expectant of what could be possibly inside the box.

He doesn't say anything but instead takes out the skirt from the box. "This is yours," he says, pointing toward the flowery pattern on it to signify that it was indeed hers. "Why was it sent in a box to me?"

The uneasiness that washes over Catherine's face has Derek worried immediately. He feared the worst all of a sudden.
