Chapter 5

"If that's not a gift, then where did you get that from?" Catherine asks but Derek could still see through her uneasiness.

Seeing her acting this strange could only mean one thing. But he didn't want to admit that it was what he was thinking.

"Like I said before, it was sent to me. And this is yours, Catherine. You've always had it. Can you explain what's going on here?" he confronts her with that and it didn't do much to take off her strange reaction.

At first Catherine sighs. Then her face lights up like she suddenly recalled something. A completely different reaction to what she had on before.

"That's it," she says out loud. "I had that skirt on some days ago at a party and then washed it after. I left it out to dry but couldn't find it when I went to take it off. That's possibly why you have it here with you."

Her explanation wasn't adding up. To Derek, it didn't make much sense. It was more like she was trying to play around with him.

"I don't get you," Derek declares. "Why would your skirt be delivered to me after you left it out to dry?"

"That's what I don't understand too. I honestly left it on the balcony at the place I rented for the trip. It came as a shock to me when I didn't find it anymore."

She collects the skirt from him to examine it, the look of recognition glaring in her eyes.

"I thought the wind had blown it away but no matter how much I looked, I still couldn't find it. But I don't understand why someone would proceed it to you. It's crazy."

"Was that the only thing that went missing?"

Catherine nods. "From what I can tell, yes. I checked and it was just the skirt I didn't seem to find when I was there."

Derek wasn't sure what to believe at this point. Catherine's words were sounding like she was being truthful with him but he just couldn't make much sense out of it.

It was then that he remembered the passport he found in the bedroom.

"Where did the business trip take place?" he asks, hoping to get another reaction from her.

Catherine stares at him as if knowing where he was getting at.

"Why are you asking?"

"I found your passport in the room. I thought you said you were traveling out of the country for the trip?"

"Oh goodness, did I forget to mention about the change of plans?"

Derek narrows his eyes at her. "What change of plans?" he quizzes.

"The business trip was shifted to a nearby city. We didn't need to travel out of the country anymore. I'm sorry for not mentioning it to you."

It was surprising to Derek that she had something to say each time to back herself up. At this point he didn't know what to believe again.

"I know you might have your doubts but trust me when I say that I've been nothing but loyal to you," Catherine starts to say as a way to cheer him up. "I don't know who sent my skirt to you but I'm guessing it's a douchebag trying to set us apart. But we shouldn't let that get to us."

Thinking about what she said just now made Derek realize that she might actually be sincere with him. He knew the struggle he went through to get her. No doubt that someone that wanted her for himself was making efforts into breaking them apart.

Looking into Catherine's eyes, he had to believe that she wouldn't do anything to hurt him. She loves him as much as he loved her and there was no way she was going to cheat on him.

"It's fine," he tells her, this time being much convinced that she was innocent of whatever he thought against her.

"Are you sure?"

The worry in her eyes made him sad. He hated that he had to put her in this kind of situation.

To assure her, he flashes her a smile. "I am, trust me. Let's go to the room."

With that they both head upstairs to their bedroom where Derek had already prepared well for her in anticipation of her return.

The fragrance in the room was topnotch as Derek already invested too much time into making sure the night was perfect.

As they both laid down on the bed, Catherine brings out something from her handbag which she had placed beforehand on the bedside cabinet.

"Look," she shows the item she brought out to Derek, "The phone truly broke that day. I wasn't lying about it."

Derek takes a good look at the phone and he could see that it was damaged beyond repair. Whoever must have bumped into her that day must have been so careless.

"You don't need to show it to me. I believe you," Derek tells her and she smiles before putting the phone back down on the cabinet.

Just as she's about to lay down to sleep, Derek tells her: "Come here."

She obliges and he pulls her soft body into his own for a warm embrace. The feeling of her soft skin on his was enough to send a message to his whole body and it was at that time that he realized how desperate he wanted her at this moment.

He kissed her on the forehead and he could swear that he felt a vibration go through her whole body. That was a complete turn on for him.

He would have taken it to the next level almost immediately but he is suddenly hit with the thought of his wife being in bed with another man.

It obviously didn't happen but the thought made him uncomfortable. Very, very uncomfortable.

He wasn't sure if it was the right thing to be thinking but he knew it was going to be hard to take that thought off his head just like that.
