"Are you sure you’re going to marry Mikaela, young master?" Raymond's voice came through Alexis’s phone.
"Yes." Alexis glanced at Mikaela, who was sound asleep on his bed. They were currently staying at Carlos's orphanage—Alexis’s childhood home—since bringing her to his mansion was out of the question.
"But she and her family insulted you."
Alexis chuckled slyly. "I'm not marrying her without a reason, Raymond. This is all part of my revenge plan."
"What’s your plan, Mr. Alexis? Allow me to assist you."
"You’ll know soon enou—"
"Tsk! You’re so noisy, Alexis," Mikaela grumbled, her voice groggy as she rubbed her eyes. "Who are you talking to, huh?"
"I’m applying for a job."
"This late at night? Seriously?"
"It’s already morning, Miss." Alexis chuckled at her confusion.
"Really?" Mikaela’s eyes widened as she pulled back the curtains. "Oh my God! I’m late!" She jumped out of bed and hurried to the door, grabbing her scarf along the way.
"Late for what?" Alexis followed her, curious, but Mikaela ignored him.
Suddenly, her phone rang, halting her steps. She quickly answered it. "Mommy! Finally, you called me! Did Dad change his mind? Does he want me back?"
"Come home right now. You’ve read my message, haven’t you?"
Frowning, Mikaela checked her phone and gasped. "I’ll be there right away!"
"What’s going on? Who called you just now?" Alexis asked.
"My mom! She asked me to come home!" Mikaela answered, her face lighting up.
"I’ll take you there."
"No need," Mikaela declined quickly. "My dad will kill me if he catches me with you."
"But we’re getting married."
"Not now, Alexis. I’ll convince my dad to accept you, then you can come see me at the Cornell mansion." Mikaela rushed out, hailing a taxi and leaving Alexis standing there in disbelief.
Still, Alexis wasn’t about to give up. Her behavior was far too suspicious, and he decided to follow her.
At the Cornell mansion, he noticed a lineup of luxury cars parked in the driveway.
"What’s going on? Is there an event?" Alexis slipped in through the servants’ entrance unnoticed.
Inside, he found the Greyson family sitting with the Cornells in the living room.
"Sweetheart, you’re finally here," Harold greeted his daughter warmly as Mikaela took a seat between her parents.
"The Greyson family is here to propose to you."
Alexis froze in shock.
"That’s right." Wayne smiled gently at Mikaela. "I’d like to ask for your hand in marriage."
All eyes were on Mikaela, waiting for her response.
"You’ll accept it, right, sweetheart?" Zilda squeezed Mikaela’s hand and whispered, "You saw my message, didn’t you? If you say yes, you’ll be welcomed back into the family. It’s the only way to restore our reputation."
Mikaela nodded, giving Wayne a sweet smile. "Yes. I accept your proposal."
Alexis clenched his fists, trembling with rage. How dare she deceive him like this? She had only been using him all along.
"How dare you lie to me!" Alexis stormed into the room, causing everyone to turn in shock. "You said you’d marry me! And now you’re accepting this scumbag’s proposal?"
"Alexis?!"
"You bastard! How did you get out of prison?!" Harold roared, his fury echoed by Wayne and Morgan.
"He must’ve escaped!" Zelle chimed in, stirring the chaos further.
Mikaela smirked coldly. "You’re such a fool, Alexis. I only used you. Do you think I’d ever marry a poor man like you?"
Alexis’s body trembled as his anger boiled over.
"I swear, you’ll regret this!"
Wayne laughed mockingly. "Pathetic. Did you really think a beautiful woman like Mikaela would choose you? You need to be born into a family like mine to deserve someone like her."
The room erupted into laughter, but Alexis remained unfazed.
"You and your father are the real fools," Alexis sneered. "Your father just lost the Morris Corp deal, leaving Greyson on the verge of bankruptcy!"
The Cornells’ laughter died instantly, replaced with shock. Alexis smirked, satisfied. After this, the Cornells would undoubtedly rethink their decision to marry Mikaela to Wayne.
"Is this true, Mr. Morgan?" Harold turned to the older man, his gaze sharp.
"T-that’s not true!" Morgan stammered, his composure faltering. "You’re lying, you scum! Haven’t you done enough by attacking my son?!"
"I know your dirty plan!" Alexis shot back. "You’re only marrying your son to Mikaela to leech off the future benefits of a Cornell-Morris partnership."
"Shut your mouth, bastard!" Morgan grabbed a flower vase from the table and hurled it at Alexis, but Alexis caught it effortlessly.
"If it’s not true, why are you so angry to cover your panic?" Alexis taunted.
"Guards!" Harold bellowed, summoning two security officers. "Get this intruder out of here! Don’t ever let him back in!"
"Yes, sir!"
"There’s no need." Alexis sneered, placing the vase back on the table. "I’ll leave on my own. But mark my words: the Cornell and Greyson families will never succeed in taking advantage of Morris Corp’s wealth!"
Alexis stormed out, his fury blazing, and immediately called Raymond.
"Raymond, arrange the official reading of the Morris Corp inheritance for tomorrow."
"Why the sudden decision, Mr. Alexis?" Raymond asked, sensing his master’s seething anger.
"Just follow my orders!" Alexis snapped before ending the call.
As he returned to his mansion, Alexis swore he’d humiliate the Cornell and Greyson families tomorrow.
“Congratulations, Vincenzo. Soon, you’ll officially become the richest man in the USA,” said a 55-year-old man as he shook Vincenzo’s hand.“Thank you very much,” Vincenzo replied confidently, flashing a smile as he shook hands with each distinguished guest approaching him.Meanwhile, Zelle stood elegantly by his side in a figure-hugging red dress that highlighted her flawless curves. Her poised demeanor and stunning appearance exuded sophistication, solidifying her image as the partner of the future heir to Morris Corp.“She’s incredibly lucky,” one woman whispered to her companion. “Her life will change completely once Vincenzo is officially named the heir.”The elegant atmosphere abruptly shifted as a man entered the room. His commanding presence drew every gaze, and the weight of his steps made a statement.“Who is he?” the guests murmured. Although they were all part of the elite, none seemed to recognize the mysterious man.Vincenzo’s expression darkened instantly. Anger simmere
"FUCK! Failure again!" The sound of shattering glass echoed as Vincenzo brutally knocked over the table in front of him. His face was flushed with rage. The room, once full of guests, was now silent, leaving only scattered glass shards and the awkward Cornell family.Zelle and her family exchanged glances. Disappointment was veiled behind their fake expressions of concern. They hadn’t been able to exploit Vincenzo’s wealth this time, but pretending to be a caring family was a duty they had to fulfill."Calm down, Vincenzo," Helen stepped forward, trying to salvage the situation. Her thin smile attempted to soothe him. "I'm sure Raymond must have a reason for not showing up."Vincenzo turned sharply, his eyes piercing through Helen. "A reason? Another piece of nonsense like that, I swear, I will destroy anyone who dares to stand in my way!"Everyone’s eyes were on Vincenzo as his fury boiled over. No one dared to oppose him. After taking a heavy breath, he grabbed his coat and left w
A man with a cold, fierce face entered a VIP room at one of the finest restaurants. The atmosphere in the room was already thick with an invisible tension."Finally, you’ve arrived. You made me wait too long," Vincenzo said, his voice low and sharp, as though there was no room for tolerance. He took a deep drag from his cigarette, exhaling the smoke calmly, as if savoring the tension that hung in the air.The room was deliberately dimmed. Only the soft glow of the lights reflected off the glossy black table surface, casting dark shadows around them."I had to secure the situation before coming here," Ernest replied briefly, his tone calculated, as he sat across from Vincenzo with a watchful demeanor."Did you bring what I asked for?" Ernest asked, his voice more of a command than a request."Sure," Vincenzo said, pushing a red folder across the table toward Ernest, as if delivering something of great value. "Here’s the official inheritance letter Raymond created, along with a sample o
"Where's my tuxedo, damn it?!" a man with an arrogant face shouted furiously in his room. His voice boomed loudly, echoing beyond the room. Alexis stumbled forward, clutching a cane to guide his steps as he was blind. Approaching the man, who was around 55 years old, Alexis handed over the tuxedo. "Here's your tuxedo, Mr. Howard Cornell," Alexis said, his blonde hair catching the faint light, holding the neatly hung tuxedo out. "You're so slow!" Howard snatched it roughly, glanced at it, then threw it back at Alexis' face. "You idiot! This isn't the navy tuxedo I told you to clean, damn it! I told you to clean the black one!" Alexis trembled. "I-I'm sorry, Dad I'll prepare it—" "You're useless!" Howard shouted, kicking Alexis' cane away, sending it skidding far across the room. He stormed off, leaving Alexis behind in a storm of rage. Alexis took a deep breath, trying to hold back his frustration. He had endured humiliation nearly every moment in this house. He knelt down
Lenora stared at Alexis sharply, hoping he still remembered her threat earlier that morning that she wouldn’t hesitate to throw him out if he revealed his status to Vincenzo. "Why are you asking me that, Mom? I’m Zelle’s husband," Alexis said, trying to stay polite, even though anger boiled inside him. He didn’t mind being treated like a servant by his in-laws, but he couldn’t accept them giving Zelle to another man. Earlier, Lenora had ordered Alexis to hide his marital status from the Morris family, claiming it would help Zelle secure a business contract with Vincenzo. Without much thought, Alexis agreed because he loved Zelle and wanted to support her dreams. However, he never imagined the way they intended to secure the contract was by making Zelle Vincenzo’s lover. The realization broke Alexis’ heart. He had spent so much effort helping Zelle and the Cornell family, only to welcome her affair. "Mom?" Vincenzo repeated, his eyebrows furrowed. "Did I hear that right? Did
“You’ve got to be kidding! There’s no way this bastard inherited all of my father’s wealth!” Howard protested angrily.“But that’s exactly what’s written in the will, Mr. Howard,” Marcus explained politely.“Give it to me!” Howard snatched the will from Marcus roughly and read it thoroughly, his eyes narrowing with disbelief. “FUCK!" Howard threw the paper onto the floor and lunged at his father, grabbing his neck. “How dare you leave everything to this bastard! Have you completely forgotten about your own family?!”“Stop it, Mr. Howard! You’re going to hurt him!” Marcus and a few doctors rushed to pull Howard away from Mr. Carlos. “I don’t care! He deserves to die!” Howard shouted, completely losing control. No one in the Cornell family stepped forward to stop him, their silence felt like approval. Suddenly, the piercing sound of a heart monitor alarm filled the room. Carlos’s body convulsed, and panic erupted.“What’s happening?” Marcus asked, his voice filled with worry, while
"No. I won’t divorce her," Alexis said firmly, making Zilda and Mikaela seethe in anger.Zelle smirked slyly at her aunt and cousin. "You’d better leave before I call security.""No," Zilda refused. "You can’t just kick us out that easily, you tramp." We won’t let you take all of Carlos’s inheritance, Zilda thought bitterly.Zelle glared at her. "How dare you call me that, you bastard!" She lunged at Zilda, but Howard suddenly appeared. "Stop it, Zelle," Howard ordered coldly before turning to Zilda, Mikaela, and the rest of the family. "I need to talk to all of you. Follow me." He walked out, and the others followed, leaving Alexis alone in confusion. "What is it?" Zilda asked sarcastically. "I want us to work together," Howard said, his tone authoritative. "Work together?" "Yes. We’ll convince Alexis to sign the declaration. Then, we’ll split Carlos’s inheritance fairly among us. How does that sound?" Howard explained confidently. Helen and her husband, Adam, exchanged
The Cornell family was at the peak of their power, having successfully taken control of Carlos’s wealth. Zelle had become the CEO of Cornell Corp, thanks to her pivotal role in seizing her grandfather's inheritance from Alexis.Zelle stepped out of her Lamborghini and walked gracefully toward the company lobby, surrounded by hundreds of reporters. The reporters swarmed around her like a cluster of ants."Is it true that you and Mr. Vincenzo are getting married in a week?""Is your marriage with Mr. Vincenzo meant to strengthen the partnership between the two conglomerate families?"Zelle flashed a friendly smile at the cameras. "Yes, Vincenzo and I will be getting married soon, right after he is officially named the sole heir of the Morris family.""When will the official ceremony be held? Will you and the Cornell family attend?""Of course!" Zelle smiled confidently. "Because I’m his fiancée.""What’s your response to being named the most powerful couple in the USA?"Zelle chuckled a
