Chapter 7: Rejection

Ashton never thought that a tough-looking woman like Zara had problems to hide. Behind Zara's seemingly independent appearance, Ashton found a gap thanks to information from the system.

The more Ashton analysed Zara's condition, the more he discovered the source of the problem. The middle-aged man standing near Zara seemed to be watching her with a lewd gaze, a look of utter perversion on his face.

Ashton glanced at the man's movements and concluded when he saw a ring on his finger. Ashton knew that such a man was a husband who still liked to look at and be attracted to young girls.

As Ashton continued observing him, Marcus Stone said, "Mr Myers, let's talk about more urgent matters."

But Ashton brushed it off with a clichéd excuse, "Wait a minute, I think I need to go to the bathroom."

Marcus, who was not suspicious, remained friendly as he said, "Please, Mr Myers. I will lead you."

Ashton was lying. He was only looking for a space to separate Marcus and Zara because Ashton wanted to make sure of something. He didn't head to the bathroom but instead hid between the shelves.

Ashton started listening to the conversation between Marcus and Zara. He also noticed that Marcus's friendly face immediately became bitter. The man was not even awkward to stare at Zara lasciviously.

Ashton saw Marcus trying to get close and touch Zara's thigh area. The man asked, "Zara, what about your experience so far?"

Zara instantly feels uncomfortable when someone touches her body, especially a man. Zara hates the lascivious stares always directed at some part of her body. She even once met a man who offered her to spend the night together.

Because Zara has a firm stance, she always refuses any strange advances from perverted men. She won't let them get to her.

Ashton saw Zara with a hot face and said coldly, "Sir, I think this is a good deed. Please remove your hand."

If Zara hadn't remembered that he was her colleague and boss, she would have slapped Marcus hard. Zara probably wouldn't have kept quiet and hurt the man's hand.

Marcus, who got a rejection, started to get annoyed. He grabbed Zara's thigh without hesitation as he said in a threatening tone, "Zara, you know that finding a job isn't easy, right?"

Zara's face then turned pale. She was still a student with good grades, but her family's poor circumstances meant that Zara had to prioritise work.

With a beautiful face, an ideal body and a brilliant brain, Zara got several calls from companies in London. But all was not enough as there was always trouble brewing.

Zara had been changing jobs because she was being treated badly by a boss who was always being lewd to her. She feels pressured because finding a job that pays her well is hard. Every promised promotion always ends with an offer to sleep over.

The same words were now heard from Marcus, "Zara, you don't have to be so expensive. If you lower your self-esteem just a little, you'll instantly receive a better position than this."

"Sir, I think..." Zara responded while trying to shake off the man's hand. She felt distressed if she had to give her innocence to a perverted man, especially one who was married.

"Zara, don't think too much. I've been very kind to make you this offer. If you refuse, I will make your life difficult," Marcus pressed in a threatening tone.

The man was lying, just taking advantage of the opportunity of Zara's contract that made the girl unable to quit at will.

Ashton was hiding and could hear Zara and Marcus's words well. He finally understood Zara's problem, and because of the mission from the system, Ashton would help the girl.

"Alright, I'm done; sorry it took a while," Ashton acted as if he didn't know anything.

Marcus was immediately friendly and professional. "Sure. It is the file you just need to sign, sir."

Marcus found the change of ownership strange. The elite neighbourhood had a high price tag, but it was suddenly sold to someone with no clear background.

Ashton immediately took the document and had a quick look at it. Feeling no irregularities, he immediately decided to sign.

The one thing on Ashton's mind right now is to save Zara from a man like Marcus, but he has no good ideas.

"Mr Myers, there's more paperwork for you to sign," Marcus said, handing over another document.

"Oh well, let me check first," Ashton said casually.

The man smiled as he came up with an idea while reading the document. There is an obligation on the part of the manager to continue to control and maintain the building.

When Ashton was about to speak up, Marcus confidently said, "Sir, I have good management experience. You entrusted the management in my hands, so you don't have to worry about the mansion as long as it is under contract."

If Ashton didn't see through Marcus's behaviour, he would have been lulled into a professional state of mind. Marcus's type of person would only take advantage of his cooperation with Ashton. After all, this was Ashton's chance to save Zara.

"Sorry, unfortunately, I've made my own decision since the beginning," Ashton replied expressionlessly.

"Sir, are you sure?" Marcus felt confused, with a doubtful look on his face. The man didn't expect that Ashton would reject him.

Marcus tried to persuade, "You don't need to hesitate because I have decades of experience. I can give you priority facilities with the lowest bill."

The offer may be tempting, but Ashton doesn't care. The man has decided to choose Zara as his representative.

"Since things are over, I hope you can leave my mansion," Ashton said confidently.

Marcus, who did not accept it, immediately showed a rude attitude. The man was no longer even friendly or respectful to Ashton.

The man casually shouted. "Zara, let's go. Many smart people will still use their wits to co-operate with us."

Ashton saw the look of confusion on Zara's face. The girl knew that although Marcus was a lewd man, he was very skilful and experienced.

Since Ashton had already decided, Zara had no choice but to leave. But instantly, Ashton held the girl back.

"Miss Monroe, you don't have to go; we can talk business together!"
