Chapter 2 : A long awaited reunion

Timothy Clarkson stepped in front of the line of young men with a smile on his face.

All eyes were on him, attempting to analyze him.

Who was this unremarkable man that had just won the hand of Mia Hamilton, they wondered.

Mia remained at the corner of the hall room, glancing at the man who had just won her hand in marriage.

He was a tall man, with dark hair, wearing a black suit. He was very conventionally handsome and a lot younger than Mia expected.

Mia was frankly glad it was him and not an unattractive older man.

But this also made Mia feel quite uncomfortable, she felt that in her current state she didn't deserve a man as conventionally attractive as Timothy.

“MIA” beckoned her mother Sophia Hamilton

“Don't be rude Mia, get out of this corner and go meet your new husband to be” she said.

At this point, the other suitors had left the hall room, and Timothy looked on as Mia slowly rolled her wheelchair towards him.

Her fate had already been sealed, she thought.

It happened so fast, and now she had been sold off to a man she didn't know. A man who would probably treat her lesser than human due to her unfortunate condition.

“Well well well” said a man coming from behind the hall room, slowly clapping.

“Little Mia finally found a man, didn't think I'll see the day” he said.

This was Richard Hamilton, Mia's older cousin.

“Treat my little cousin well, okay. As you can see, her needs go far beyond that of the average woman” He added in a mocking tone.

Timothy ignored the brash man and walked towards Mia, who at this point had stopped moving her wheelchair and had started crying.

Eventually, Timothy stood in front of her, her head was buried in her palms as he put a consoling hand on her shoulder.

“It's alright Mia” whispered Timothy into her ears,

his voice was strong, yet soothing and smooth

“I can see you've been through a lot, I can see you're in a lot of pain” he continued as he slowly lifted her chin to meet his bright, green eyes.

“But I promise you Mia, all that ends today. I'll protect you and be sure to take every bit of pain you have away…. I promise”.

Mia was completely smitten by the good-looking man in front of her, she wanted to speak, but no words could come fort.

All she knew was that somehow, for someone reason, she felt she could trust him.

There was an air of familiarity about him, and at the same time an air of mystery, something Mia couldn't quite comprehend.

“Alright, the party's over, I've seen enough”, said a middle-aged woman, getting up from her seat.

This was Mia's mother, Sophia Hamilton.

She was completely disappointed in her daughter. To think that she would end up with such a man, a man with no real amount of wealth and success to his name.

All other family members of the age of marriage had proven to be useful assets to the family, just as she had been to her family in the past, but now her own daughter was forced to settle for THIS.

“If only she had listened to me that day” thought Sophia.

She took another look at Timothy, despite the fact he didn't have much in terms of wealth, he was certainly a looker… tall and handsome.

At least her daughter would have a man who was physically attractive, although she was willing to bet that a man as attractive as Timothy could never be attracted to a woman like Mia in any way.

“I'm going out” she said.

Her husband Andrew, Mia's father, hadn't even bothered to attend this occasion.

“You can find your way back Mia” she said.

Mia wanted to protest, but she just felt completely defeated, at least until Timothy took her hand.

“It's alright Mia” he said

“I promised you didn't I, you don't have to worry about anything anymore, I'll protect you, and I'll wipe every tear from your eyes” said Timothy as he wiped her tear filled eyes.

As Sophia walked out of the hall room, she scoffed, Mia was a crippled failure, no one took her seriously.

She'd see how long Timothy's pretend affection would last before the mask came off.

Timothy went behind Mia and began pushing her wheelchair.

“Where are we going?” asked Mia.

“Somewhere nice for you to spend the night” replied Timothy as they stepped outside the Hamilton compound.

Soon they approached the black limousine waiting for their return.

The driver would open the back seat of the limousine and Timothy would gently and effortlessly carry Mia off her wheelchair and set her down on the limo seat.

He then folded up the wheelchair and placed it in the boot of the car before also entering the limousine himself.

“Where too boss?” asked the driver

“Take us to the Golden Estate Carlos, Mia here has had a long day” replied Timothy

Timothy glanced down at Mia, who sat silently beside him.

He wondered how long it would be before he told her his name wasn't Timothy Clarkson.

That he was actually Dean Bradson, the boy whose life she had saved 15 years ago.

The boy whose life had cost her..... her legs.

Dean would brush such negative thoughts out of his mind, he was going to make sure he also removed any doubt in Mia's mind that she made the right decision to save his life on that fateful day.

.......

The Golden Estate was one of the largest and most luxurious establishments of its kind in all of Reville.

It covered some thirty thousand square feet of land and had every amenity you could think of, from a massive swimming pool to a mini golf course, squash court, and even a casino.

The estate belonged to one of Dean's partners in his company, Comet.

He had bought out the entire estate weeks in advance so he wouldn't have to deal with any disturbances on his return to Reville.

He hadn't planned to meet Mia the very day he returned to Reville, much less bring her back to the estate with him.

But after everything that had happened that day, he was now even more glad that he had bought the place out.

He didn't want him or Mia to be disturbed.

Dean carried Mia all the way from the limousine to her room some four floors high, refusing all offers of aid from Carlos, who followed behind them carrying Mia's wheelchair.

Mia still couldn't believe how strong “Timothy” was, since she couldn't properly tell how muscular he was through his suit.

Dean set Mia down on the bed while Carlos adjusted her wheelchair beside the bed.

Mia couldn't look at Dean, she was so embarrassed as she already felt that she was nothing but a burden to him.

She looked around the room in pure amazement, it was so beautiful, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Mia was always told all her life that she would never know love, that no man worth his salt would ever be with a half woman like her.

She had accepted her fate years ago, and believed that the only person who would ever want to marry her would be an older, possibly divorced man, seeking to use her to covet her family's wealth and fortune.

Yet here Dean was, he had treated her with nothing but care and respect.

She had expected that he would drop the charade once they got into his car, but so far, Dean had remained caring and respectful towards her

“I'm sorry” said Mia in a very saddened voice.

“What do you mean?” asked Dean

“It's not even been a day, and I've already troubled you with my pathetic life” said Mia, refusing to look at Dean's face as tears rolled down hers.

“No no no, we will have none of that” said Dean, lifting her chin to look into her eyes.

“No more tears Mia, I already told you didn't I?, that I will carry your pain from now on, you don't ever need to cry or worry again” he said, his voice determined and assuring.

As Mia looked into Dean's bright green eyes, her fears once again melted away, they were so caring and protective.

She felt that she could believe him, she felt that she could trust him.

Even in the privacy of her room, Dean still treated her well, his devotion and care for her hadn't wavered.

“Get some rest Mia, if you need anything just call me” said Dean as he kissed Mia's forehead

“I'll see you again tomorrow” he added as he left the room.

After leaving Mia's room, Dean found Carlos standing in front of the room and together they both went to the roof.

Lighting a large cigar, both men sat on the roof of the Estate, staring at the moon in silence.

“Quite the day, wasn't it boss” said Carlos, breaking the silence

“Indeed” replied Dean. “I didn't think I would get to see her so soon, he added as he exhaled a puff of smoke”

“That's strange, didn't you want me to take you to the Hamilton residence the moment you arrived?” asked Carlos.

“Yes but… I suppose I didn't expect the two of us to interact so closely the day I returned” replied Dean.

“But no matter, I have found her now, and that's all that matters”

“So when is the ceremony?” Asked Carlos, attempting to lighten the mood.

Dean chuckled “Ceremony?, there won't be a ceremony, at least for now…. Maybe later if that's what she wants”.

“But one thing's for sure, I am responsible for Mia's current predicament, she has suffered a life of pain and prejudice because of me, and I'll make sure that I fix it” said Dean, his voice filling with determination.

“Tomorrow, Mia and I will make our marriage official, and then I'll make sure her condition changes forever"

"she will walk again... I'll make sure of it”
