Chapter 5 : A shocking revelation

“15 years ago”, Mia began, “My parents were desperately trying to get the Hamilton family closer to the Warrington family”.

Dean's eyebrows arched upwards.

The Warrington family was one of the most powerful families in Reville, in fact they were part of the quartet known as the “Four heavenly kings”, representing the four most powerful families that basically controlled the city of Reville.

And although the Warrington's were the weakest of the four, they were still incredibly powerful and commanded more influence than most could imagine.

“They wanted to introduce me to their eldest son, Raymond, hoping that a relationship would form between us which would open the gates to an alliance between our two families" said Mia, still holding on to Dean.

“But back then, I was a strong-headed kid… I was also 10 years old, I didn't understand family ties, politics, alliances, cooperations…. I didn't understand anything”.

Mia paused and looked up to see Dean staring at her attentively.

“However, when I finally met Raymond… Let's just say I didn't like him very much” Mia continued.

“I found him creepy, entitled and annoying, so I made fun of him, in public, in front of his parents for everyone to see”.

Dean's fists tightened. The Warrington's, as one of the Four heavenly kings of Reville were an incredibly prestigious and dangerous family. They would never tolerate such disrespect towards their eldest grandson and future heir, especially from a family they believed were lesser than them.

“Well…. the Warrington's didn't like that very much, and they kicked me and my parents out of their villa”.

Mia's voice was starting to strain as the memories were becoming increasingly painful.

“That night, my parents beat me, a lot, and they told me that the next day, they would take me back to Warrington's home to apologize and make up with their son” continued Mia.

“But like I said before, I was a kid and didn't understand much of anything, so I decided I was going to be rebellious”

The limousine ground to a stop.

They had arrived back at the Golden Estate, but neither of them came down from the car, as Dean wanted Mia to finish her story.

“I ran away from home that day, went to stay with a childhood friend of mine, Anna, we stayed there all day”

Mia smiled as she remembered, almost chuckling, but it was not a happy smile, it was one of frustration.

“I remember having so much fun that day Timmy, I had no care in the world, Anna and I played all sorts of games, her parents were so nice to me” said Mia as tears began to form in her eyes.

“That evening, I decided to return home, as Anna's parents were starting to get worried, but as I was heading home, I decided to a shortcut through a back alley, so I could get home much faster”

Dean let out a very heavy breath, he knew that Mia would soon reach the point in her story where they would meet for the first time.

He wanted to see how she would personally describe their first encounter, as he barely remembered it.

“There in the back alley, I saw a boy on the floor, a little bit older than me, he had been stabbed multiple times” Mia continued.

“So I decided to help him out, I carried him all the way to a nearby ambulance that took us both to the hospital.

Because of that incident, I didn't return home that night as I wanted to stay with him, luckily the doctors let me”.

“Did you get the boy's name?” asked Dean, curious to find out if he had ever told her his name.

“Yeah I did, Only his first name though” replied Mia.

“What was it?”

Lifting her head to look Dean in the eyes, Mia said, “Dean, he said his name was Dean”

Mia's eyes were filled with tears at this point, and she started crying heavily, she had gotten to the most painful memory of her life, the point where she would lose everything.

After a few minutes of crying in Dean's comforting arms, Dean wiped her eyes and Mia was able to continue her story.

“Early the next morning, I finally left the hospital and went to a nearby police station”.

“The doctors told me to head to this police station after they called my parents and informed them of my location”.

Mia paused, knowing what was coming.

“On my way to the police station, a car..... it” she stopped, the memory was more painful than she would have thought.

“That's when you got hit by the drunk driver?” asked Dean.

Mia raised her eyebrows, surprised he already knew the story.

“I see, it seems you already know the official story” said Mia, looking at Dean.

“Well I looked into it earlier” replied Dean, and then, after raising an eyebrow in confusion, he asks “what do you mean by the official story?”

“I wasn't hit by a drunk driver Timmy, that's just the story my parents made up to cover for the real culprit”

“Your parents covered it up?” Asked Dean in absolute shock, “why would they do something like that?”

“It's because of the people who were responsible, The Warrington's” replied Mia.

Dean clenched his fist even harder in pure rage, and Mia could now feel his grip on her tighten.

“After I was hit, an investigation was opened into the case, the police found the car that hit me.

They discovered that it was a stolen getaway vehicle without a licence plate, that had been dumped on the side of the road shortly after the hitting me".

“They concluded the accident was planned, although they couldn't decide whether it was supposed to kill me or just leave me more or less injured than I ended up being” said Mia, her eyes sunken and sad.

“My parents bribed the police to record it as a classic case of a drunk hit-and-run, in order to ensure an investigation wasn't opened that would lead to war with the Warrington's”.

“After I woke up, my parents basically abandoned me, they stopped talking to me, they sent me to school away from everyone else.” said Mia, as she desperately tried to hold back her tears.

“My family would mock me at ever opportunity, they said it was my fault for running away from home, so I had no one else but myself to blame”

“You mean to tell me that your parents threw you under the bus to appease the Warrington's because you ran away from home!?” Asked Dean, as his boiling rage was threatening to cascade over like a wave.

“Yeah, they basically did” replied Mia.

“And you know what's messed up, I think they're right, It was my fault, I did deserve…”

“Shhh…” whispered Dean, placing his finger over her lips.

“Don't you ever even think that, it was not your fault whatsoever, you were 10 years old, your parents never should have placed such responsibility on your shoulders to begin with, or at least they should have done enough to properly explain it to you”

Dean took Mia's hand and finally led her out of the car to her room, where he kissed her and bid her goodnight.

The Warrington's and the Hamilton's were truly a despicable bunch, thought Dean as he headed for his room.

Despite his massive web of informants, spies and brokers, he had no Idea that the Warrington's were involved in Mia's accident.

But now that he knew, Dean was certain of one thing, the Warrington's were now in his crosshairs.

He was going to avenge his wife, and make the people who caused her so much pain and suffering, feel the wrath of the Maestro of the underworld.

Dean stopped just as he reached his room door, he realized he had a few things to discuss with Carlos and didn't want the night to end just yet.

He took out his phone and quickly made a call.

“Carlos” he said with his phone plastered to his ear

“Get the limo ready”

“Where are we going boss?” asked Carlos from the other side of the phone.

“The silver pearl” responded Dean before hanging up the phone.

The silver pearl was an elite hangout spot, where the wealthiest of Reville's elites came to relax and communicate with each other.

There, Dean sat with Carlos at a table reserved for both of them.

They sat there in silence for a few minutes, enjoying their lit cigars before Dean finally spoke.

"Carlos, it's been a month since I returned Reville, and while I appreciate that you are here with me, it's time for you to go back to Parlsbury"

"No way boss, I'm with you till the end" replied Carlos.

"And I am telling you that you don't need to be, I can take care of myself, besides I need some one I trust back in Parlsbury representing me at Comet" said Carlos

"Rest assured boss, Comet is in good hands, I trust that Jason will do a good job managing the company in your absence, I've known him for decades, you can trust him"

Dean rested his chin on his fist and tilted his head, looking at Carlos with an annoyed look on his face

"So you're not going to do as I say , you're not going to follow a direct order"

Sensing his boss's displeasure, Carlos bowed his head as a show of reverence before uttering his next words.

"I've been a loyal aid to you for years Dean, I swear to you that I can be of use to you, whatever it you need, just say the words and I'll do it, but please let me stay by your side".

Jason sighed, sometimes he was blindsided by Carlos's loyalty to him.

Despite the fact that the man was almost ten years his senior, he had followed him with blind, unwavering reverence ever since an incident that occurred 5 years ago.

And seeing Carlos use his real name, Dean, instead of calling him boss, told Dean that this was truly something Carlos really wanted to do

"Alright Carlos, stay if you want"

"Thank you very much sir, I won't fail you" said Carlos with a smile on his face.

"You better not, and please don't ever publicly call me Dean, the name is Timothy Clarkson until I say otherwise", said Dean.

Carlos nodded "of course boss".

"Alright, now I will need you to make sure th..."

Their conversation was cut short when a man in a brown trench coat walked past their chair towards the shopping centre.

Dean looked at the man's hand and saw a tattoo just below his wrist, a tattoo of...

A Butterfly.

And like a bolt of lightning the memory struck him.

He saw the knife, plunging into his chest, and the tattoo of a butterfly on his wrist.

He heard the screams of his mother, telling him to flee.

He felt the man's hand, grabbing his hair and dragging him into the alley

He had just seen the man who killed his mother, the man who stabbed him three times and left him for dead.

Dean grabbed his head and took incredibly deep breaths as he tried to contain the painful revelation.

And slowly, his temperature and bloodlust began to rise.

Something that Carlos noticed immediately.

Dean hadn't planned for it, but it now seemed like he was going to have to kill someone that night.
