Chapter 4 : Confronting the sins of the past

The mood as Dean and Mia drove back to the golden estate was a gloom one.

Dean had met a lot of scummy and awful people throughout his career, but very few of them would treat their own daughter with such contempt.

Mia hadn't said a single word since they came out of her father's office.

Dean wanted to know what her father meant when he said that her current predicament was her fault.

“What did he mean by that?” asked Dean gently

“Who?” asked Mia

“Your father, when he said your current predicament was your fault, what did he mean by that?”

“Please Timothy, I'm not…. I'm not ready to talk about it yet”.

Dean, fully understanding that she was still shaken by the events that occurred with her father earlier, did not want to bring such painful memories back to her.

But Dean had promised her that he would be a shoulder for her to lean on, that he would take away her pain.

And he was determined to ensure that he fixed the ultimate wrong he had dealt her.

Mia would walk again.

When they returned to the Golden Estate, Dean carried Mia to her room.

As he set her on her bed, she began to weep softly.

Even a man as cold-hearted as Dean couldn't help but feel warmth at such a sight.

He parted her hair with his fingers to reveal her tear filled eyes.

“Oh Mia, you have lived such a hard life” he said softly.

“You have suffered more than any woman even half as wonderful as you should”

Mia was happy he was here with her, his voice eased her pain.

“I told you I'd protect you didn't I?, I told you I'd take your pain away, and I will make due on that promise”

Dean quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket and called Carlos.

“Carlos, it's time… tell the boys to bring me my kit”.

Mia looked on in confusion as Dean knelt beside her and gently touched her leg.

“I'm going to fix this Mia, I promise”.

“For all these years, you've had your legs unjustly take from you, I'm going to give them back to you”

Mia's eyes widened in shock.

Timothy was going to give her back her legs?

But that wasn't possible, the doctor who treated her as a child said the damage to her spine was too much, and thus could not be reversed, but here Dean was saying that he could reverse it.

“Are you….are you serious?” She asked softly, wanting to finally have some hope restored to her life.

“Yes I am” replied Dean softly.

Dean was more than sure that he could fix Mia's legs.

He was an incredibly skilled innovator and inventor, designing multiple pieces of new technologies for various purposes, even in the medical field.

He had just the right new piece of technology that would be perfect for the job.

Soon, a couple of men in gray suits and dark glasses entered their room, carrying multiple boxes and briefcases.

Dean carried Mia from the bed downstairs to an emergency operating theatre, refusing to solicit help from any of the gray suited men.

As they got there, Dean set Mia down on the operating table while the men dropped the boxes and briefcases on a table behind them.

“OUT!” Yelled Dean at the men, who quietly left the room.

This operation was his burden to bear, and he was going to do it alone.

Dean's company, Comet, had a flourishing Medical department that sold all kinds of experimental drugs and medical equipment to the highest bidder.

As a result of this, he was an incredibly skilled doctor and had amassed a great deal of wisdom from treating so many patients.

“Take off your clothes” said Dean to Mia

“Sure… will you help me?” asked Mia as she blushed heavily

“Of course” replied Dean.

Mia removes her clothes and Dean fits her into a surgical gown.

Laying her on her front, he would open one of the briefcases and retrieve a syringe, and then fill said syringe with an anaesthetic.

The sight of the syringe made Mia feel a little nervous, as she was not the biggest fan of needles.

But the feeling of Dean's strong hands caressing her hair and whispering words of assurances to her, made her feel safe and protected.

Once she finally calmed down, Dean administered the Anaesthetic, and in a few minutes, she was out cold.

Dean sighed, putting on his surgical gown and cracking his knuckles.

It was time to get to work.

The operation took Dean twelve hours, he didn't rest, eat or drink during the entire procedure.

To many, this would have been a completely exhausting and traumatic affair, but to Dean it was just another day.

He had done even longer and more difficult procedures in the past.

During the surgery, Dean carefully replaced parts of Mia's spinal cord with pieces of nano technology that he had personally invented.

Soon, Mia would wake up in an emergency room.

She looked up to see Dean looking happily at her, this caused her heart to give out so much joy as she knew the procedure was a success.

“The operation was a complete success, Mia”, said Dean, taking her hand.

“However, this is where your strength needs to come in” he added with a serious look on his face.

“You'll need to do a couple of physical therapy exercises every day”

Dean then used his strong hand to grasp Mia legs, and to Mia's absolute shock, a feeling like a bolt of lightning filled her as her nerves surged back to life.

She realized that she could feel Dean's hand on her leg.

Dean continued, “The feeling to your legs might have been restored, but your muscles and bones are still weak and frail due to years of low usage”

Dean removed his hand from her leg and took her hand again.

“Don't worry, we'll do this together, I have many Physical therapy plans and supplements that will restore your bones and muscles in just one month”

Mia's eyes widened, “ONE MONTH!” she said in disbelief.

Dean nodded, “Yes Mia, one month, and you'll be able to walk even better than you did 15 years ago”.

And with Dean's help, the month went by like a gentle breeze.

Every day, both Dean and Beatrice would help Mia get up from bed and do a few walking exercises.

Slowly but steadily, Mia started taking more and more steps until she could eventually walk around her room without assistance.

By the end of the 2nd week she could even walk down the stairs and Dean dismissed Beatrice as her services were no longer needed.

The muscles of Mia's leg grew larger and stronger due to the supplements that Dean gave her.

After the four weeks were done, Mia's legs were so strong, she was able to even run down the stairs.

In fact, Mia started taking daily evening jogs round the Golden Estate.

On the night of the first day of the fifth week, Dean arranged a fancy dinner for both of them to celebrate her recovery.

Mia asked him to wait for her at the restaurant, as she wanted to surprise him with a fancy new dress that she had bought.

As up to that point, she had never truly dressed to impress anyone.

Dean sat at the restaurant patiently, waiting for Carlos to arrive at the restaurant with Mia.

And soon Mia arrived.

As soon as she opened the restaurant door, all eyes were on her, including Dean's.

Mia had completely transformed herself.

She wore a long red dress that's heightened her curves, with a cut at the side exposing her leg, clad in silk stockings.

Her lips and nails were painted a fiery red, and her long six-inch heels sensualized her every step.

The men at the restaurant all stared at her lustfully, causing many of them to be reprimanded by their dates.

Mia sat gracefully on the chair opposite Dean, from the way she walked you'd have never known she had been crippled for over 15 years.

“I practiced a lot” said Mia, as if reading Deans mind.

It was obvious she was shy and a little embarrassed, as she had never been to diner at a restaurant before.

Dean sensed this and put his arm over hers to assure her, “You look absolutely beautiful Mia” he said.

“Thank you, Timmy” she said, blushing lightly.

“Can I call you Timmy?" she asked softly

“Mia we are married, you can call me whatever you want” said Dean.

Mia blushed even heavier.

The evening was a nice and relaxing one, they both enjoyed themselves, and Mia finally had the first normal and heartfelt discussion she'd had with another person in years.

As they returned to the Golden Estate in their limousine, Dean had his arm around her and Mia felt safe behind them.

Dean, looking down at the woman snuggling besides him, had his mind once again go to what Mia's father said to her a month ago.

So he decided that this was a time as good as any to bring it up again.

“Mia” he called.

“Yes Timmy” she answered.

“What did your father mean that day?, when he said that you were to blame for your current predicament”

Mia sighed, she knew that it was only a matter of time before Dean would bring this up to her once again, but this time she felt she would finally tell him.

Truly, the reason why her entire family treated her so badly, the reason why everyone shunned her and seemed to hate her so much, was not simply because she lost her legs.

The real reason was much, much darker.
