Chapter 10: Humans

HAVING dealt with all of that, Aldric gave Goblins the scales that he got from killing Gila Monsters and made them pile into a neat stack.

But because the Gila's Monster scale was strong and sharp, he warned them to be careful, but it didn't take long before one of the goblins accidentally cut themselves on the sharp edge of a scale.

Thankfully, the female goblin was there to heal them.

Aldric found out that from the female goblin that the reason for her skin color being different wasnt because she was a woman but because she was special from the others.

Aldric could not understand any of it.

[The Goblin (10) has pledged loyalty to King Aldric. Goblins are now under your command.]

[Your Kingdom grows stronger.]

[You have received $1,000,000,000,000]

[You can now name the Goblins.]

Aldric was making a weapon when the translucent screen appeared before him again.

"Name?" Aldric nodded, having understood what the system meant. "That's good. Since I will be living with them, it will be inconvenient to talk to them if they don't have a name."

Aldric put back his weapon and walked towards the Goblins, who were busy doing the task he gave them.

"Elder," Aldric called as he watched the Goblins do what he ordered them to do, "it's too inconvenient for me to refer to you and your people. I can't call you Elder Goblin, goblin 3 and goblin 4. As my first followers, I will bestow you a name. Accept it."

'Bestow? What bullshit, Aldric. You just wanted to sound cool!'

Right at the word names, the goblins froze and stopped what they were doing, and every single one of them was looking at Aldric in disbelief.

"Name?"

"Bestow?"

"Did the Lord say name? The Lord will name us?"

The Goblins erupted into enthusiastic cheering. They look like children getting their first taste of candy.

Aldric already expected them to be shocked, but he didn't expect to react to this extent.

"A-Are you sure, Our Lord?" the elder timidly asked. "I must remind you that aming us will weaken you."

'Weaken me? The system didn't say so.'

Aldric was confused and didn't say anything, so the elder continued.

"Some of your power will be transferred to us if you give us names, Our Lord. The more names you bestow, the weaker you become. It is the rule of our kind." The elder lowered his gaze and added, "We do not deserve such honor."

'My skills will be gone?' Aldric curled his lips. 'That would be a problem for others, but why would that be a problem for me? I can just buy the skills that I have lost again!'

"I see." Aldric nodded. "But I want to. Will you defy me, then?"

The elder eyes widened and suddenly kneeled before Aldric, who was followed by the rest of the goblins.

"I will not dare to defy such a being as strong as you!" the elder voice trembled and added while still prostrate to the ground, "it would be our honor to be named by you, Our Lord."

"Good. From now on, you shall be known by names I shall grant you,"Aldric declared, looking at the eager faces of his new followers.

"Right, before I named you. I want to know what happened to all of you? Aren't Goblins usually in big numbers, living in caves or forests, pillaging and causing trouble for humans?" Aldric asked.

'This place is not a place for weak monsters like the goblins. I am curious about their circumstances.'

Right after saying that, the Goblin's expression changed. Their faces hardened and paled. Even the little goblin has become solemn.

"A Gate…" the elder trembled with anger as he spoke. "A Gate was opened in our village, and the Curses started attacking my people. Only ten of us survived…. It was my fault that they all died."

"No! It was the humans! The humans did this to us!" the female goblin suddenly yelled.

Her eyes were filled with fury as if she was still at the moment of the tragedy.

Aldric furrowed his brows. 'Humans?'

"Silence! Do not yell in the presence—"

"Let her speak," Aldric cut off the elder.

He was curious about what the humans did.

"The humans…" The female goblin clenched her fist, her face scrunched up in anger. "Using their technology, they change the location of the Gate knowing that a village resides there. It wouldn't have happened… if not for the humans! It was the humans who killed them. M-My sister… My sisters died while saving me."

The female goblin burst in tears, and the other goblins couldn't control their emotions as they silently cried, their eyes filled with sorrow and hatred.

Aldric knew about the technology that the female goblin spoke of, but he didn't know that it was capable of changing the location of the gate.

'How evil and cruel. I bet the Queen knew this—No! She might even be the one who planned it. That Queen… I will really kill her with my own hands! How dare say something about saving the world?!'

Aldric sighed to control his anger before turning his attention back to the Goblins.

"Then, I shall grant you power and vengeance. You see, I also have something I need to settle with them." Aldric lips curled into a wicked grin. "This just aligns with my plans."

The Goblins' eyes widened for a moment before a new emotion ignited in their gaze.

The Goblins lowered their heads even closer to the ground before the Elder Goblin spoke.

"Our entire race is ashamed of our pettiness before your generous benevolence. Please grant us the honor of knowing the name of our Lord, the man who will grant us a name, so that we may pass down the tale of the great debt of gratitude we owe you forevermore."

"Adric. The name is Aldric Fellon. Remember it well."

Aldric named the elder, Grom, the eight other males were Snik, Griz, Brak, Flick, Vork, Rokoto, Piccolo, Jazz, and the child goblin was named Drub.

Aldric stared at the only woman goblin. Other than her lavendar skin, her body wasn't different from that of a woman.

She has long and flowing lavender hair that has the same color as her eyes, and her features, although distinctively goblin, held a certain charm.

Aldric found himself at a loss for words as he contemplated naming her.

After a moment of thought, he decided on the name Lavena.

"Your name will be Lavena," Aldric announced, and a sense of pride and joy sparkled in Lavena's eyes.

The goblins applauded, and Aldric couldn't help but feel a newfound responsibility settling on his shoulders.
