Chapter 12: Serve

As soon as he said that, a spectral aura enveloped the space, and Aldric's shadow became alive.

It flickered like there was an ethereal flame within it.

The atmosphere grew heavy as if the very air was responding to Aldric's command, and then coming out of Aldric's shadow were the forty-five Dread Wolves, slowly materializing.

Their haunting eyes fixed on Aldric, ready to heed his commands.

Right at this moment, the goblins outside the room felt an ominous yet familiar presence.

They exchanged glances, immediately grabbed their weapons, and hurriedly ran towards their Lord, praying that nothing had happened.

But as soon as they stepped inside, what they saw made them tremble with fear. They couldn't even move as they exchanged a glance with the monsters before them.

"P-Protect the Lord!" It was the elder goblin who broke the silence between the Goblins, but although he said that, he too was trembling uncontrollably.

He couldn't even move from his spot. He gritted his teeth and swallowed his fear.

They need to save their Lord, the being who saved them, named them and granted them a glimmer of hope.

When they saw Aldric in the cave, they felt hatred and disgust. Because they were weak, humans always killed them to level up and thus their population suffered and as if it was not enough the humans killed their family, but their Lord was different from the humans they had encountered.

He didn't smell like a human, nor did he exude the same hostility.

From the moment that their Lord named them and granted them power, they swear to serve and protect him with their lives.

"Protect the Lord! D-Do not let the monsters harm our Lord!" The elder goblin's voice trembled, but he mustered the courage to command his fellow goblins.

The other goblins, still shaking, reluctantly raised their rusty weapons and shields, forming a protective circle around Aldric.

Even the little goblin Drub was part of the defensive line, holding his weapon with his small goblin hands.

Aldric was taken aback by the Goblins' action.

'Right! I forgot that these wolves are still monsters. I didn't think about how the Goblins would react.' Aldric mentally scolded himself. 'But these goblins, they are clearly afraid, and they even know that I'm stronger than them, yet they have the guts to protect me from these monsters. Interesting. I'm liking them more and more.'

Aldric quickly stepped forward, addressing the goblins, "Stand down. These Dread Wolves are under my command. "

The goblins exchanged uncertain glances with the other goblins, but they didn't lower their guard down.

Seeing their reaction, Aldric walked towards one of the wolves and petted it, showing the goblins that there was really nothing to fear.

The Goblin's gasped.

"The Lord... he is touching a Cursed!"

"Y-You wolves! S-Stay away from our Lord!" Drub yelled. He was almost crying, yet he still pointed his sword at the wolves. "I-I will kill you!"

Lavena was also standing with anger in her eyes. She could cast weak magic and it could not even scratch these powerful monsters, but she will not let fear paralyze her.

She already swears to herself that no one will be taken from her anymore. 'The Lord— no—My husband...' Lavena's face reddened but there was a seductive smile on her lips.

"You have nothing to fear. These wolves are allies, not enemies," Aldric reassured them.

It was as if Aldric blew the minds of every goblin on the premises.

Each one of them stared wide-eyed at Aldric.

"M-My Lord? A-Allies?"

"T-These wolves?"

Elder Grom's long, white eyebrows shot up, and then he looked at the Dread Wolves, and indeed, the Dread Wolves were not attacking even though their weapons were pointing at them.

Compared to their monstrous appearance, they look like a pack of obedient, spectral hounds.

'T-They are not attacking? D-Does that really mean that they are followers of our Lord? B-But… these beings… They are monsters! They are the Curses! The monsters that even the Gods could not subdue!' Elder Grom gripped the hilt of the sword as he gritted his teeth, and a question gripped his mind. 'What kind of power does the Lord possess for him to be able to control and tame the monster that once served the Demon King?'

The Elder Grom trembles. It was a deep fear, an indescribable excitement.

Elder Grom hesitated for a moment and then he finally lowered his weapon, signaling the others to do the same.

"If the Lord commands these creatures, then we shall trust in his judgment," Elder Grom bowed his head, his voice shaky yet resolute. “The Lord's will is our will.”

The other goblins also lowered their heads.

Aldric cracked a smile. "Good."

With that, the Goblins finally left, fear and awe mingling in their expressions but not for the monsters, but rather for their newfound Lord who commanded creatures that this world considered abominable.

'If the Lord can put those creatures into command, there might be a possibility that he is the incarnate of the Demon King. It was right to lower our head because if we didn't, our heads would be sent flying.’

THE goblins left reluctantly, and Aldric named the wolves. Although he could only name ten of them properly while the rest of them—he didn't remember what he named them.

'I named their new alpha, Amarok, while the others, I named them after my dead dogs and the others... I don't remember. I can just use Appraisal on them if I need to call them.'

[Mission Accomplished! You have successfully named the Dreadwolves!]

[Your Kingdom grows stronger.]

[You have received $1,000,000,000,000]

"I received $1,000,000,000,000 from naming the Goblins, and now I have another $1,000,000,000,000. In total, I have $2,000,000,000,000." Aldric nodded, satisfied when suddenly he felt dizzy and hot. "What's happening? I feel like my body is so heavy, and it's really hard to breathe?"

[Answer: Naming monsters costs Mana Points (MP) and results in fatigue. The heavier feeling and difficulty breathing are typical symptoms after an extensive use of mana. ]

"Is that so?"

Aldric stared at the forty-five wolves. Because there were so many of them, even Aldric's bed and space were crowded.

Aldric thought that the cave was big but that was when it was only the spider and him. As he observed the wolves, he wondered if naming all of them was necessary, considering the limited space of the cave.

He didn't really find it a problem since he thought that the cave had enough space, but Aldric also didn't expect the number of occupants of his hideout to increase this quickly.

"I need to figure out a solution for this, or I won't have any place to sleep tonight," Aldric mused. "System, can I get them inside of my shadow again?"

[Answer: No, after naming them, the Dread Wolves will undergo an evolution. After the evolution, it will be possible for them to come out even if the sun is out. ]

"That's what I thought." Aldric nodded disappointedly. "Maybe I can build a shelter somewhere? Since I'm a King, don't I need a castle? But with this barren land, where can I even build it?"

Aldric thought that it was a good idea. He can have big spaces and privacy. The Goblins can also have their own rooms.

But with all the monsters in this barren land, that fantasy is almost close to impossible.

Aldric wanted to check the shop, but he felt his headache getting worse, and he was finding it more difficult to breathe.

His body was beginning to feel hot.

"I feel like I'm having a fever. My head is so heavy." Aldric groaned in pain as he massaged his temple, but it didn't lessen the pain. "Ugh, I should think about it tomorrow. I-I feel really sleepy and tired."

Aldric felt like he would almost collapse to the ground any second and so he decided to retire for the night.

AS Aldric hoped, the door he made was still intact, although there were some scratches and signs of wear from the monsters' attempts to breach it.

The two goblins were still guarding and standing at the door. After realizing that the monsters were not coming in, they stopped shaking.

While Drub, the little goblin, fell asleep while holding the weapon.

The night passed without any disturbances inside the cave—is what Aldric thought when he sensed someone approaching and getting closer to him.

Aldric abruptly opened his eyes and caught the hand of the intruder.

"Ah!"

A female voice and familiar voice sounded in surprise as Aldric's firm grip prevented the intruder from making any sudden moves.

Thanks to the light from the fire, Aldric could make out the details of her features.

Green skin, long and flowing lavender hair, lavender eyes, and a naked body that seems ethereal in the flickering firelight.

The surprise in Aldric's eyes gradually shifted to recognition.

"L-Lavena?"

Lavena's damp eyes stared into Aldric, and her strong words filled him with burning desire.

"M-My Lord… I have come to serve you." Lavena blushed as she said that.
