Chapter 2: Eldorwyn

As his eyes adjusted, he found himself and his classmates in what seemed to be a castle from medieval times.

He was struck dumb at the sight of his surroundings.

Walls made of brick and the floor adorned with intricate patterns in a style unfamiliar to him—he was in a grand castle—a throne room.

He turned his head and looked on his left and right sides and saw people in gray robes looking at him and his classmates in awe as if they were looking at a rare treasure.

One thing that Aldric noticed was that they were holding a staff that mages usually own in games or anime.

The next thing that he saw were niches in the walls held lamps that illuminated the room with a warm glow.

"You have all been chosen!" a voice rang out.

Aldric raised his head and saw a beautiful woman with a narrow waist, a fierce and calculatedly beautiful face, her red hair that flowed down to her waist, fine skin, and finally, her sapphire eyes.

She was sitting on a throne, wearing a red ornate gown. It has a plunging neckline making her breasts, whose size would overflow in your hands obvious. The gown had a high slit revealing one leg up to mid-thigh.

Three knights who wore full metal armor stood on each of her sides, holding a silver sword.

"Who are you? Are you the one who kidnapped us here?" Elara asked. She was clearly terrified like everyone else, but she still put her emotion in place.

“Of course, let me explain. I am the one who summoned you here, after all," the woman said and stood up before continuing, "Let me introduce myself. I am Queen Seraphina, ruler of the Kingdom of Eldoria. You have been chosen by the Goddess to be our saviors. The heroes foretold our ancient prophecies."

'Hang on—a goddess? Queen?'

Some of the boys started whispering frantically.

"Heroes? Is she talking about us?"

"Whoa, so this is, like, one of those isekai stories?"

"Totally!"

"So…it's the trope where the whole class gets summoned, huh?"

Aldric widened his mouth slightly.

He had grown up reading web novels and had often fantasized over such scenes.

However, he momentarily found it hard to accept the situation when he found himself in one.

"Let us hear what the situation is first," Elara said, taking a deep breath.

With that, Queen Seraphina started to explain everything to them.

In summary, this world is not the Earth.

This world is Eldorwyn, and ten years ago, the war between humans and demons had finally ended.

The Demon King was defeated, but in the process, the heroes were killed in action. But, with the death of the Demon King, there was nothing to fear, or so everyone thought.

The kingdoms of Eldorwyn believed they could finally live in peace and prosperity, but the death of the Demon King left a void that chaos eagerly filled.

The Queen explained that the moon in this world was destroyed by the Demon King before he died and thus announced the dark ages of the world Eldorwyn.

As the Moon was stolen from the sky, Eldorwyn's world descended into chaos once more.

The peaceful night of this world has turned into a nightmare.

Monsters that appeared out of nowhere suddenly emerged in the darkness and preyed on anybody caught outside after sundown.

It wasn't only the monsters that preyed on humans, but even the darkness itself seemed to swallow anyone who ventured into it.

To survive, people had to adapt quickly.

“A strict curfew was put in place: no one was allowed outside after dark, and every home had to be brightly lit to keep the darkness at bay. For a while, this seemed to work. Life started to stabilize, and my people began to hope that they could find a way to live with the new normal. However, things got even worse,” the Queen spoke with a heavy tone and took a deep sigh before she continued to explain.

“In the second year of my reign— it was in the middle of the day when massive portals—now what we called Gates—appeared in the sky and from these Gates, hordes of terrifying monsters poured out. These monsters destroy cities and kill half of Eldorwyn population in just a single day.”

Aldric and his classmates barely understood what the Queen said but he knew that the gates that suddenly appeared brought a new wave of terror that nobody in this world had been prepared for.

The Queen continued telling everything about this world.

The six kingdoms were forced to join forces to fight off these monsters and after three grueling months, they managed to close the Gates, but the victory was bittersweet.

Many died and many lamented the death of their loved ones.

“From the Gods and Goddess guidance, we came to know that the Gates would reappear every year.”

“Every year?”

“What?”

Everyone was taken aback, Aldric included. However, the Queen was not finished.

Thanks to their technology, they were able to predict when and where the next gates would open, but it didn't stop the monsters at all. No matter what they do, the monsters are too overwhelming and strong for them to defeat without the heroes.

The world population halved, the crops were destroyed, and the once fertile lands were transformed into barren lands.

The loss of resources caused a war between the kingdoms, and more people died.

The queen said that there were five kingdoms in this world: her kingdom, Eldoria, the Kingdom of Lyrathos, the Kingdom of Sablethorn, the Kingdom of Astoria, and the Kingdom of Drakoria.

The loss of resources caused a war between the four kingdoms and was put to a halt when the Gods and Goddess spoke of heroes from another world who would arrive and bring an end to the curse that plagued the world, thanks to the prophecy that the Gods and Goddesses had given them, a fragile alliance had formed among the kingdoms.

And although there were five kingdoms, the Kingdom of Eldoria was the strongest and the safest, thus the reason why the heroes were chosen to be summoned here.

"May the Goddess guide us and grant strength to the heroes she has sent," the queen concluded with a somber yet determined tone. "We gathered our men to prepare, however smaller Gates began to appear randomly during the day, releasing more monsters and keeping everyone on edge. With half of the population gone, we can no longer endure this alone. We need your help, heroes from another world, to defend our lands and restore peace to Eldorwyn.”

"Then, after we finish defeating the curse, can we go back to our world?" It was Elara who asked again.

The Queen stared at her before she answered, "Yes, I promise."

Everyone sighed in relief after hearing the Queen's answer.

"If you don't have any questions left, then I will have to explain everything that will happen to you from now on. But first, we must check your stats to determine if you are a hero or someone we don't need," Queen Seraphina said and motioned to the elder in a robe.

'Don't need? What does she mean by that?' Aldric thought as he felt like the Queen could not be trusted, but it was as if he was the only one who heard those last words as he didn't hear his classmates question what the Queen said.

The elder nodded, then pointed his finger at something, and suddenly, an orb appeared on his hand.

'Is that spatial magic? This is really a fantasy world,' Aldric thought in amazement.

The elder walked towards Drake, causing Drake to cautiously back away.

"Hero, place your hand on the orb," the elder instructed.

"Why? What the fuck is that thing?" Drake asked as he eyed the glowing orb warily.

The elder, with a calm and reassuring demeanor, replied to Drake, "This orb holds the power to reveal your true status to everyone. If you are truly a hero, then you have nothing to be afraid of."

"I see."

With a deep breath, Drake stepped forward and placed his hand on the radiant orb.
