Accident

"Yes, Doreen isn't dead like your stepmother and everyone claimed. Yes, they brought a corpse and buried her but it was all a ploy masterminded by Doreen. She knew you weren't dead like Mrs Cavil claimed." Max laughed, rubbing his hands.

Henry couldn't believe what Max revealed. Doreen masterminded her death? That wasn't the sister he knew.

"Spill everything, Matt. Where's my little sis now?"

"I don't know, Henry. She would reveal herself when she was ready. You didn't ask how we ended up together. Don't you want to know?" Matt smirked, tapping his fingers on the table.

Henry sighed inwardly. His sister was alive, that was a good thing but where was she?"

"How did you end up with Doreen? You were like a big bro to her and I thought you were going to marry Evelyne after everything you did ten years ago. What happened?"

Matt let out a dry laugh, "Mrs Cavil happened, Henry. She claimed Evelyne's family owed her a lot of money and the contract marriage was the payment. I fought hard but money and something else won. Guess?"

"Doreen, " Henry replied, clenching his fists tightly. He would have loved to hit his stepmother and sibling so hard right now. But his revenge plan was going to take an interesting twist. " I guess Doreen protested about it?"

"Yeah, she did, " Matt drawled. "But Jake made her marry me and then they came with this trip two months later after you were announced dead and we travelled, staying there for two years. She delivered our son, Dylan there. One day, I woke up and found her dead beside me."

"What? What do you mean she woke up dead beside you?" Henry yelled, his eyes fuming with hot tears.

"I swear, Henry. I didn't kill her. I know I wronged you in the past and now, I'm paying for it. But killing? I couldn't even kill a rat when we were in school, not even now. I know your step-siblings know how she died but they pinned it on me. They took Dylan and her body tricking me. They wanted to build evidence to prove my innocence."

"Did they build any evidence?" Henry asked.

"They didn't. I returned to the hands of the police force and got different counts of charges on drugs and the murder of Doreen. I'm so sorry for what I did to you, Henry, please get me out of here."

Henry let out a dry laugh, "No, you deserve this jail, Matt. Thanks for the information and I wish you the best."

Matt sighed, a deadpan expression on his face. "Please take care of Dylan, Henry."

"He's Mike now. Tell me, was he visually and speech impaired when Doreen delivered him?"

Matt looked confused, "No, even though he was a baby when I last saw him, he let out cries. I don't know what Mrs Cavil did to him."

Henry chuckled, " Alright, You deserve everything that happened to you and I will be back if I find out everything you told me was a lie including the claim that Mike is your son!"

Matt sighed as he watched Henry step out of the room. He messed up big time all because of money. Now, he couldn't even enjoy the wealth! He hated himself for first causing Doreen's pain. He could have easily said no to the marriage proposal but the Cavil's wealth seemed like a gold mine then, all thanks to Jake.

He did tell the truth about being the father of Doreen's child even though he had forced his way into her. He hoped Henry would never find out about it because if Henry did, a greater wrath awaited him.

Henry stopped at the school, picked Mike and drove home silently. He didn't engage Mike in conversations like he usually did. He replayed everything he heard from Matt and at first, he was surprised, then he remembered what his stepmother did to him, Doreen and then Mike. His guts told him they knew what happened to Doreen but who would tell him the truth.

As he crossed to the other side of the street leading to his estate, a speeding red Camry without any sign of warning hit him off the street, making the vehicle spin around. Mike let out a soundless scream and Henry inwardly thanked God he had placed a seat belt before the crash.

He finally was able to stop the car from spinning and heaved a curse. He suspected it was his stepmother's handiwork and remembering what Evelyn said, he wouldn't be surprised if it was one of his enemies too.

People were gathering the car now but Henry wasn't thinking about them. Something was wrong with Mike. He was unconscious

"Hey buddy, wake up, it was just a little accident," Henry yelled, shaking the little boy.

"No, I can't lose him too!" he shouted, grabbing Mike's body. He pushed through the crowd and stopped a taxi. He was going to do everything in his power to find the rotten driver who tried to kill them but first, he had to make sure Mike lived.

"Please, help us. A hit and run driver got us and my son went unconscious." Henry yelled, dropping Mike's body on the emergency bed.

"Stay calm, sir. We're rushing him into the emergency room," the doctor said, ordering the nurses around.

Henry watched them take Maxi into the emergency room. He didn't know what to think to get the person who tried to kill them. He also had to find someone who could investigate what Matt told him. He glanced at his watch at 4:00 pm and glared at him. He had already spent more than one million today, so he was good to go.

He scrolled through his phone and dialed a private agent number. The man had been a good friend of him when he was working as a delivery man ten years ago. He hoped the man would remember him now.
