The beast was running towards the group without slowing down but Roger wasn't going to shoot as he quickly went into the van's front seat to get something.
Don shot and shot but the beast jumped from side to side avoiding every bullet, soon the other soldiers joined in and with their combined effort were able to get shots on target on the beast but it still wasn't enough to stop the beast as it continued running forward without slowing down.
"Are you guys stupid? If you don't shoot that thing then you'll all die!" One of the soldiers turned to the kids to say this but still, it wasn't enough to make them do anything.
"How come all the kids here are cowards? I wasn't this cowardly as a child." The soldier grumbled as he continued shooting at the beast.
With the beast getting closer now the soldiers continued shooting until when they pulled the trigger and nothing happened.
"We are out of ammo!" A soldier shouted.
"Then just put new ones!" Don screamed as he was already refilling his gun.
With no bullet coming toward it the beast could increase its pace now, and for the first time since their journey, the soldiers found their hands shaking as they wanted to fill their guns with bullets.
"Crap, let's just take the kids' rifles." A soldier said this and advanced to take a rifle from one of the kids.
Don was already done with refilling his gun, and quickly closing the bullet compartment he began shooting at the beast.
The two soldiers who were trying to refill their guns weren't done yet as their bullets were falling off their hands out of fear.
The beast was within range now and quickly pounced on the number one threat, the only person who was shooting it.
His gun was knocked off his hand as he was trying to prevent himself from getting torn apart by the beast on top of him now.
The soldier who opted to take a gun from the kids came back with a new rifle and without wasting time began firing at the beast this caused the beast to leave an already bartered Don and dashed towards him.
The soldier tried to aim for the head but the beast was too fast, knocking his gun off his hand before he could.
With the soldier now on the floor, the beast drove its sharp claws into his shoulder causing him to let out a scream.
"Help me!!!"
The two soldiers who were behind him didn't want to shoot because they were afraid that the beast might turn to them next.
"What are you two doing? Shoot that thing." Don coughed from the floor.
The two cowardly soldiers who probably haven't faced these beasts before couldn't bring themselves to do it.
The beast went ahead to dig its claws into the soldier's other shoulder.
"Arghhhh!!!"
Now, all it needed to do was bite his head off and that would spell the end of the soldier but before the beast could do that the soldier heard a gunshot behind him.
Immediately that shot was heard the beast stopped moving and before he knew it the beast slumped on his body.
With the beast on his body, the soldier managed to turn his gaze towards where he had heard the gunshots to see Frank still holding his gun straight like he was going to shoot again.
Frank had been the one to step up at the last moment to save the soldier, he wasn't afraid to use his gun like his mates were and he knew the best place to shoot the beast while it was distracted, the head.
"Nice one boy," Roger said as he stepped out of the turned-over van with a shotgun in his hand.
There was really no time to praise anyone because looking ahead they could see that none of the soldiers holding the beasts back was standing which meant that the wave was now heading for them.
The soldier with bleeding shoulders managed to get up and now had his back rested against the van.
"Now, we don't have any choice but to face those things on our own," Roger said as he walked towards the two soldiers who had refused to fire the beast when it was closest to them. "But let me make something easy for both of you."
"What…?" One of the soldiers wanted to ask but before he could complete that sentence he was met with a bullet going through his stomach, the other soldier also received his own bullet at the same time.
Some of the kids covered their eyes at the cruelty this wasn't something they were supposed to be seeing.
Immediately after both soldiers dropped dead on the floor, Roger turned to the kids with his gun pointing at them.
"Such will be the fate of anyone who refuses to shoot."
Looking at the group now one would wonder how they were going to fend off the number of beasts towards them.
All that was left now were twelve teenage boys including Frank, two seriously injured soldiers, and a Lieutenant.
The two soldiers were already out of the fight because they weren't sure they could use their hands now, leaving the fight to one Lieutenant and a bunch of kids.
Lieutenant Roger didn't show any form of fear as he began firing the beasts with his shotgun as soon as they were within shooting range.
The shotgun was a very powerful gun and with his accuracy, he was able to take care of most of the beasts with one shot.
Afraid to die in the same way the two cowardly soldiers died, the teenagers drew closer and began to fire at the beasts showing their lack of experience and zero accuracy or it may be due to fear that they were all making poor attempts in shooting the beasts.
Without a doubt, Frank felt afraid when he saw the horde but he had been able to subdue some part of that fear with the thought that if these beasts got past them then his mother would be in serious trouble and that was the last thing he wanted.
Despite Lieutenant Roger's good shooting technique, the beasts were too much and had already started overwhelming them.
The two soldiers who had their backs against the van were using their rifles to defend themselves against the beasts which had managed to go past Lieutenant Roger.
The students were being pummeled and torn apart by the beasts now, Roger on the other hand was now surrounded by beasts and was managing to fight the ones close to him while shooting off the ones trying to pounce.
This beast horde did not only consist of the cat beasts, there were also among them other animals that were turned into these beasts.
Frank was doing well to control the number of beasts around him, that was until a small beast the size jumped towards him, he didn't have enough time to aim and shoot at the fast beat as it jumped and grazed his face, knocking him down in the process.
His gun was just beside him on the floor but before he could stretch his hands to pick it up, one of the large creatures in the horde landed a heavy kick on his rib cage which sent him flying a little distance away from the fight.
Frank coughed out blood as he tried to get up but he couldn't as some of his ribs had gotten broken.
"Is this how it ends for me?" He said.
Looking at the battle he could see the teenagers being pulled down by the beasts even Roger was beginning to get overwhelmed.
'Why did these stupid soldiers ever think we had a chance against those things?' Frank thought.
His vision was getting blurry and he knew he would soon pass out, but before that pulled out the necklace on his neck and stared directly at it as it was in his hand.
"All I wanted was to give her the best just like she gave me every day, but these stupid beasts came and ruined my happy life." His voice showed the feeling of anger and sadness he felt inside.
With the blue crystal that made up the necklace still in his hand, he closed his eyes.
A tiny ball of blood formed on the grazing he had on his forehead and then dropped directly on the crystal.
The crystal shook violently and quickly floated up.
"What's going on?" Frank quickly shot his eyes open.
The crystal flew towards his heart and quickly attached itself there, after it had attached itself there it began to sink inside.
"Arghhhh!!" Frank screamed in pain as he tried to pull out the crystal, but doing so made the pain even worse and he had no option but to let the thing sink in.

Frank had different thoughts running in his mind of what might have happened to Arnold, did he run away? But that wouldn't be possible given that the whole area was a wasteland and he would get caught by a beast. Was he carried away by a beast? That he wasn't sure of but it didn't look like any of the beasts had escaped. Maybe he was torn to shreds, this was the most possible to be the case given that his body couldn't be found anywhere around the area. While Frank was in the middle of his thoughts he began to hear slight metallic sounds coming from the van. He slowly walked to the van and was standing in front of the back door now. He was still hearing the sound but it sounded like whatever that was inside was trying to adjust its position rather than looking for a way out. He had an idea who or what was in there as he placed his hands on the door but he just wis
Frank could feel his heartbeat slowing down and weakening as the vehicle drove through the wasteland. 'What is this?' He wanted to scream but just didn't have the strength to do that. "Are you okay?" Arnold turned to him. He was struggling with his breathing now and was beginning to sweat. "I don't think I…." His breath was obstructing his speech. "I don't think I… can keep up any longer." That was the last thing he remembered saying before slumping on the car seat. The teenager woke up to find himself in their tent with his mother sleeping peacefully beside him. 'I'm just glad you are okay.' [ Heart Energy: 50/100 ] [ Half of energy restored ] [ Condition has been stabilized] Who could tell that his heartbeat and his body as a whole had returned to n
Arnold wasn't looking good at all, his eyes were looking dead as usual, his hair was all messed up with stains all over his blue shirt and he looked paler than the last time Frank saw him. 'How Come he's like this? it's only been a few hours since we came back from that battle.' Frank thought unaware that he had been out throughout the time they returned yesterday and had just woken up this morning. "Hey Arnold," Frank said as he stepped closer to him. "Hi, Frank." He said with a forced smile and change continued to pull the bag along with him. "Hey wait, where are you heading to?" "To dispose of the refuse." He stopped before saying that. "Which soldier sent you to dispose of the refuse alone?" "It wasn't a soldier," Arnold said, shaking his head. "Then who?" Frank asked.
[ Speed points: 5/50 ] Frank came to a halt as he saw his speed points drop to a low number, there was no need to worry as he needed to just walk a few meters to get to the camp now. [ Superspeed deactivated ] 'This ability is a real lifesaver.' He thought as he looked ahead. [ Stats ] [ Strength: 5 ] [ Endurance: 4 ] [ Dexterity: 9 ] 'I had gotten two points in dexterity after killing four of those foxes, foxes are known for being quick and agile, and killing them had given me stat points in dexterity.' Frank had just figured out how he got stat points, his stat points allocation worked, it was based on the physical properties of the beast, he had gotten one point in strength after killing a bear which was known for strength, and for the foxes, he had gotten stat points in dexte
The people kept moving without looking back but Frank was lingering at the back of the whole group as he would constantly look back at the soldiers who were now dealing with beast hawks' situation. 'Hawks, and there are six of them.' Frank thought as he finally came to a halt leaving the rest of the people to carry on moving. The rest of the people had continued moving but two people had noticed his absence and had immediately came back once they couldn't find him. "Why did you stop?" Christiana asked as she approached him. "Yeah, do you want to die?" Carl asked. Frank shook his head as he kept his gaze on the fight which was taking place ahead. All the soldiers were off the ground now and were doing their best to shoot down the hawks, so far none of the Hawks was down and the horde of beasts was getting closer. "Down!

Frank knew the type of danger they were in, with the type of speed the cheetah had showcased he knew their chance of getting out of here alive was very low. Despite seeing one of their comrades get turned into a blood meal, the soldiers tried to keep their composure. "Grenade!!" Devon screamed. Sergeant Glik pulled out a grenade and was about to uncork it when he got pushed back with great force. He hadn't even seen the cheetah move none of them had seen it move but it had knocked the Sergeant back like it knew what it was about to do. "Come on Frank we have to get out here." Christiana was really starting to freak out. "Yeah man, if that thing kills all of them it will come for us," Carl said.
