Mr Mardo Wormwood tapped his fingers gently together as he listened to the bank manager. The details of the conversation was about a new acquisition; the buying of the rights to air Super-sports Television on Aircable. This would make Mr Mardo richer beyond imagination.
Sports was the one thing Aircable had been lagging behind on all these years because a certain company had monopolized the rights many years ago, but this company was about to the bankrupt soon and they were selling the rights to the highest bidder. In this case, that is Mr Mardo.
“How much are we looking at, Mr Mardo?” said the manager.
“Just tell me your interest rates above $10 million. If I deem it acceptable, then we can talk.”
As the bank manager continued to drone on, Mardo caught the sight of a familiar individual. Or thought he had. Maybe the high interest rates the manager was explaining to him had distracted him.
“Hey, Sweetie.” It was Claire Black, surprising him on his day of working. Mardo was pleased to see her. He couldn’t believe what a fine specimen of a creature was doing with that pauper son-in-law he saw that very evening.
Women like her were meant to be used and explored by him. And thrown away later if they had lost their flavor. But never to be with someone like that.“Hello Claire. If this isn’t a surprise”, he said grinning.“Are you almost done here?” Claire said, winking.
“Oh, hello, Mr David” she said, talking to the Manager.Mardo had almost forgotten that Claire Black was from a wealthy family, so she would naturally know the Bank manager here. Well, it wasn’t like that now.
Whatever wealth they might’ve had before seemed to have evaporated, if not, the mother would not be pushing this whole nonsense idea of marriage on him. Yes, he would play with the Black family, and leave the pieces when he was done.
“Basically. I don’t think I’m really buying what Mr David is selling here. Maybe I’ll go to another bank” said Mardo, standing up.“Now wait a second, Mr Mard-” the bank manager started.
“Save it, David, and think about it. I might come back later if your conditions are better. Now Mi Amor, where did you have in mind that we go?” Mardo said leading her away.
As they walked out into the lobby, Mardo stopped in his tracks and confirmed what we thought before was a hallucination. By one of the Officer’s tables was Benjamin Black, seated with a ravishing looking young woman.
“Thank you for doing this” said Benjamin, while waiting for the officer to return.“I should be the one thanking you, really. For before. But banks do this all the time. Nobody wants to be caught holding the baton.
And from the amount you told me, it’s a real doozy. Don’t you have people that can usually handle this for you?” Amber asked.Benjamin paused before saying “No. I’m pretty alone in this world. The only company I have is me and this money.”
He then stared at her deeply.“Then you.” he said.Amber blushed a little, but her questions for Benjamin skyrocketed. How was this possible? She already established he wasn’t from family wealth.
Even if he was some sort of a drug dealer, he would have someone in the bank or somewhere to at least move or launder this money effectively. Did he win money in the lottery? Then his taxes would’ve been taken automatically, not frozen.
“I do have something I’ve been meaning to ask you, Benjamin” Amber said, also using his first name.
“Hey, boy!” called out a voice. Benjamin got up. It was Mr Mardo approaching their cubicle.“Well, well. You are a sight for sore eyes, as usual.” Mardo laughed. “It looks like you couldn’t pretend buy those clothes after all. You look like you just emerged from the flea market!” he laughed some more.
Benjamin could see Claire behind his back. She was clutching her dress and trying to avoid eye contact with him.“And who’s this? How did you rope this fine woman here into giving you her money?” Mardo asked. Claire flinched because Mardo had called another woman “fine”
Amber looked disgusted, and flung her eyes to Benjamin.“Who is this?” she asked him.“Nobody important” Benjamin responded. His eyes were a passionate red.
Mardo laughed. “Look, lady whatever he’s told you is an unfortunate pitiable lie. This boy is a live-in-I don’t know what he is, at my fiancé’s house. The only way he makes any money is mooching off the kindness of people like you.” Mardo said.
Claire was stupefied. Was this individual mad?! She had seen Benjamin’s bank account of $500 million. He just bought 2 new cars a couple of hours ago via direct wire payments, and paid millions for a hospital treatment. He could be one the richest persons in this city, at the bare minimum.
She looked back at Benjamin. Who was this guy?“Leave me alone” Benjamin warned Mardo. For some reason, his blood began to boil. That had never happened before. He always just accepted moments like this.
“Leave? Why you are trying to swindle this woman? I don’t think so, boy. Security. Remove this man from the premises” said Mardo. Mardo was an important customer of Skaling Bank, so when he gave an order like this, even the staff responded to him. Some guards in black surrounded Benjamin.
“Come quietly” said one of the guards.“Not on your life” said Benjamin. Claire backed slowly away. What was happening? One of the guards raised his batons, and-“System Activated: Martial Arts Defense Sequence granted.”
Benjamin was lightning quick with an elbow jab to the guard’s solar plexus, and flipped his limp 6"3 body over in an incredible feat, his head hitting the top of one iron chair. Benjamin looked at the others, which were stunned. Claire and Amber’s mouths were agape. Mardo’s eyes' had dilated to twice their sizes.
Another brave guard dashed at him, but this time Benjamin used his legs. He jumped back to give him distance, and executed a backflip kick that landed squarely on the guard’s jaw. As the guard’s body fell, Benjamin performed a second front kick to the stomach, making him fly to the wall.
Benjamin felt like he could do this all day.“This guy...he’s crazy!” yelled an onlooker. The bank and all it’s customers were now transfixed on the scene.“Requesting backup. Requesting backup. Violent male on the loose. Unarmed but dangerous” one of the conscious guards called into his radio.
“I repeat. Violent male on the loose.” said the guard into the radio.“I told you not to touch me” Benjamin said. He could feel his body heating up. Was this the effect of using the system? But he soon felt the touch of a cool hand on his shoulders that seemed to dissipate the heat.“Benjamin, enough” said Amber. Pleading with her eyes. Benjamin cooled down, but then turned to Mardo. The Bank manager rushed into the scene.“What on earth is going on here?!” asked Mr David.“It’s this homeless dude. He tried to attack this gentleman here!” said one of the onlookers.Soon the others started joining in.“Yes, see how he dresses and how unkempt he looks.”“Somebody like him should be locked up! What is he doing in a bank?”“He’s a scammer. I saw him telling that woman to send him some money!” They all chorused.“That’s not true!” yelled Amber.“Enough!” said Mr David. He looked at Benjamin, and then looked over to Mr Mardo, who had turned white.“Mr Mardo, did this man try to attack you in this p
A horror-stricken Amber pulled Benjamin Black away from the crowd of astonished faces and the pallor expressions of Mardo Wormwood and Claire Black."What are you thinking?" she asked as they approached one of the ticketing counters. Benjamin didn't respond immediately, his body only moving deliriously when Amber grabbed him, and his eyes still set on WormWood.“Hmm?” he half-mouthed at her question.Amber looked around for the Bank Manager. She saw him emerging out of a hidden hallway, laden with paperwork that rose from his hands to above his head, and still not enough to cover that wrinkly crooked smile of his. It was going to rain a payday of commissions for this Skaling Bank Branch."We should leave now." Amber put it bluntly. "If you tell the Bank Manager it was just an honest overstep on your part, we can still avoid this. That man will still lose his stake in the bank, and you'll be in the good light.""What?" That seemed to jolt Benjamin back to reality. "Why would I do that?
"Mr Benjamin, please!" David's head was lowered to his hips, and hands outstretched in a plea."You must tell me how we have offended you! Should I relinquish the services of the customers who also joined in falsely accusing you? Done. Perhaps I shall fire some of our tellers who watched without doing anything as well? If it is what you desire, consider it done!"The bank tellers; silent non-descript middle-aged men and women, tucked safely behind their granite counters, all turned to their manager in a cold sweat. Maybe minding their business during the commotion hadn't been the best bet after all."Now now" Benjamin tried to pacify him, but something sitting at the bottom right of his peripheral vision struck him as odd. When he turned his head to get a better look, the arrangement moved only so much as to sit at the bottom right again."Am I having a stroke?" Benjamin thought to himself. After turning his head a few more times, it became clear that the object was not of his external
"Let's do it." responded Benjamin. No one was more pleased with the recent developments as much as David. In one fell swoop, it seemed that Benjamin would still be keeping his fortune within Skaling Bank, just under a different name. Amber looked similarly relieved as well."When do we start?" rapped Benjamin."Now we have to find a registrar to start the new company. There are quite a few to choose from…""If I may-" David produced a small red business card. "These people are highly recommended by us, recognized and represent some of the most elite businessmen in the Country. The Number 2 on the Forbes Under 40 list had their second company registered there.Amber scoffed."It's not that difficult to get registered. Why should we go to a place that sounds like they would charge us 100x the normal price?" she interrogated. Benjamin looked for David's response."There is a simple explanation, Madam. Have you heard of the Star Alliance?" David asked. Amber had heard the phrase in passing
"Hey!" Mardo bounced towards them."Can I be of any help to you?" replied Amber. Mardo didn't pay her any attention and got closer and closer to Benjamin "You little shit!" he said, about to raise his fist."I wouldn't do that if I were you. Are you forgetting what happened to those spectacularly trained security guards a few minutes ago?" Amber warned. Mardo hesitated, and Amber moved to block Benjamin from him."What are you, his mommy?" taunted Mardo. Benjamin didn't respond to him. He hadn't responded to anything since he emerged from his exit. His eyes jumped from Mardo to Claire, to Amber, and to Mardo again with a blank expression. Sometimes he rubbed his shoulder, and looked away entirely."I'm talking to you little shit! What is a flea like you looking to pull?" snapped Mardo."I would advise you to refrain from talking to my patient that way." said Amber. "Patient?" asked Mardo, with something glimmering in his eyes. Was it hope? He looked at Benjamin again, who had not utte
He tapped the back of her shoulder."Don't bother" Benjamin spoke. Intelligence had returned to Benjamin's eyes; his face now wearing a sombre expression. "Is this how it always is?" asked Amber. The picture was getting a little clearer to her. Benjamin's irascibility with these people. For a moment, he didn't respond, but only stared forward, as if he had truly become an invalid."She wasn't like that. She was different. At least in the beginning." he said finally."And now?" asked Amber."Now they all burn" Benjamin replied. Not overzealous, not pitiful, not serious, just a statement of what he had decided a while ago. Amber shifted a little uncomfortably."I don't know how I feel being an accessory to someone's grand scheme of revenge.""I'll pay you quite handsomely" Benjamin grinned, shifting the tone of the conversation."Right...Still, what purpose does having them believe you're insane serve?" asked Amber."Are you being serious? I got this whole idea from you.""What are you ta
A bead of sweat travelled across the Boss's face. This woman was the type that was peculiar about first impressions. David from Skaling Bank had indeed called a few hours before about an incoming guest, something about a big shot persona with a few hundred million to throw away.Same old, same old. He then replied by telling David to forward the finer details to Vanessa(The Secretary), but he had never gotten around to checking on her about it. And she was yet to debrief him about any of it. It wasn't looking good, but still, the situation could be managed--"My sincere apologies Ma'am. I won't make any excuses. It has been quite the longest day, and I was just about to discuss with matter with my secretary. We have had quite the backlog." That last statement was a little funny considering the waiting room was empty besides four of them."But like I said, there is no excuse. Please accept our apologies. I'll take full responsibility." reiterated the Boss."And how will you do that?"
"The Card?" repeated the Boss."The Card." affirmed Benjamin. Then, as if recognition was only just entering his eyes: "Ah, yes. Of course, that card! Yes. Naturally. Let's go into my office, and we can discuss how you want it delivered-"Benjamin didn't budge an inch. That response was neither a yes nor a no. "Maybe you're having trouble understanding" started Benjamin "but I need a yes or a no on the black card."Something about that last statement made the boss wince a little, and he approached Benjamin again. Looking around his very empty waiting room again, he whispered:"I understand perfectly Mr.Black, but I wonder if David had accurately painted the clandestineness of the Star Alliance group to you and your companion here. If he didn't, he should have at least outlined the benefits that come with being a member of such a group. Now, think about an organization that can provide such services, is it wise for us to casually discuss them like a passing subject in such an open area?
