Chapter 2

Chris lit up a cigarette crossing his legs as he stared at the package box which had no name of the sender but only a number which he had tried calling yet it was out of service, Countless thoughts ran through his mind that this could either be a coincidence or an accident, there's a probability that his wife wasn't cheating and he had heard the man in the phone wrong. Could it be that it was the man who sent it or his wife who knew of the affair or there could be someone jealous of his wife?

"Why can't I get an answer." He mumbled to himself in an irritated tone, just then his phone began to ring and he stared down at it hoping it would be the number he had tried dialing but it turned out to be his wife's colleague Susan. He stared at his phone for a while before picking up the call, placing the phone on his ear, and removing the cigar from his mouth, he leaned his head back on the couch listening to whatever she wanted to say.

"Hey, Chris." She cheered from the other end of the line which had a nervous tone to it even though she tried hiding it with a cheerful voice. "I saw your call from earlier." Sue sounded breathless even though she tried to talk smoothly there were pauses in her words.

"Yeah, I wanted to reach out to my wife about something but she wasn't picking up so I decided to call you but you seemed to be quite occupied." He explained while staring at the skirt and stockings along with the package which still baffled him, he lifted them once again trying to convince himself that he was overthinking things but a part of him told him he was on the right track, his lips curved in a frown as he let the smoke out of his lungs through his mouth.

"I was dancing and the place was quite noisy." She said but Chris knew better than to believe those words, he knew she was lying and with the words of the man he heard earlier, he knew quite well that he couldn't trust her words.

"Oh really? You dance on business trips?" He tried hard not to sound scornful but knew she would realize with the tone of his voice.

"Not really… we um…. We just wanted to soothe our nerves as a….token for our hard work." She stuttered.

"Oh really." Chris frowned, holding back from bluntly telling her that she was lying. If anything one thing he detested the most was lies, Since he married his wife their relationship was strictly based on truths and she knew quite well not to lie to him but with what was going on she had played him white well under his nose. "Could my wife be close to you right now? I would love to speak to her." He implored taking out the cigar from his mouth and letting out the smoke through his mouth.

"Oh… um." She paused for a few seconds, trying to recollect herself as though she was searching for lies in her head to fill the void.

"I had heard someone mention her name earlier when I called," Chris added, recalling the thick masculine voice that had called his wife's nickname in a seductive tone that angered him. He grits his teeth trying to cool himself, if he were there then there would have been a countdown.

"Oh really, your wife has a captivating beauty that gets everyone's attention wherever she goes," Susan said. "A colleague had just complimented her, I believe that's the voice you heard." Chris slowly nodded his head smiling bitterly. "She also had to run some errands," Susan added.

Chris ran his hands through his hair as he couldn't think straight and hearing her voice irritated him more because she was noticeably lying to him.

"Okay, please tell her to reach out to me once she's back." He concluded not wanting to hear her dubious lies that were him up, his face was beginning to redeem in anger and he didn't want to snap at her not until he found out the truth.

"Sure." Susan ended the call, Chris took another whiff of the cigar in his hand looking up at the ceiling lost in thoughts, he had a hunch that Susan was lying to him yet he didn't want to say until he was a hundred percent sure.

He had known Susan when he went with his wife for their company get-together in which married colleagues were to bring their spouses; their relationship was so filled with love that people began to compare theirs with that of him and his wife. Yet his wife turned out to be cheating.

"I feel so bad for him," Chris muttered but laughed at his thoughts. How could he pity another man when he could be facing the same reality? Although his wife had exceptional beauty she had betrayed him and lusted after someone else which was the greatest pain he felt, how could she vividly let herself stray into another man's hand?

His phone buzzed again and he stared down at it to see it was his wife calling him, he received the call and reluctantly placed the phone on his ear. He clenched his fists, shutting his eyes as he restrained himself from blurting out anything that could reveal his knowledge of her infidelity. His lips curved into a frown as he opened his eyes staring at the ceiling trying to calm his raging emotions.

"What lies could she possibly be planning? What was her tone going to be like?" He thought to himself silently waiting for her to say something so he would know if she was cheating or if it was all a mistake caused by overthinking. His face began to sweat again as his heart replaced faster
