Chapter 3

"Hello, babe!" She chimed

"Sorry the call got interrupted, I bumped into someone while running making me drop my phone…. And it broke." His wife explained with her sweet charming voice, when she previously used this tone to talk to him it always melted his heart, and right now it irritated it more than anything, it was as though every feeling he had for her evaporated.

"Why does it feel this way?" He thought to himself.

He found it hard to believe the words she just spat, his lips curved into a wry smile that had pain seethed underneath.

"Oh really?" He asked doubtfully, he knew she was going to frown at the question because he never really questioned her answers ever since they were married because they never hid anything from each other.

"What do you mean by that?" Aria asked him, noticing how his tone was doubtful of her words. "Do you feel I'm lying?" Her voice sounded pained as though she had been stung by his words but right now he didn't seem to care, he was in a whirlpool of confusion that could have been caused by betrayal.

"Whose phone are you using right now?" He asked ignoring her question, there was a long pause from her end as she was stricken wondering why he was acting different than usual, she couldn't help but notice he was sounding different. Chris walked towards the little bar in his living room setting and poured himself a glass of vodka to freshen his dry mouth and heat his body.

"Well, the person got me a new phone." She answered without hesitation which assured him that she was telling the truth but he frowned hearing the person get her a new phone, Could it be one of her lovers showering her with a gift?

"So fast huh?" He scoffed that she was lying to him but she let out a chuckle thinking he was doing all this out of jealousy because he was somewhat protective of her.

"Yeah, he's superior and he couldn't leave me stranded." She explained, Chris pursed his lips smiling bitterly. Hanging out with a big shot huh?

"He must have blinded her with money." He thought to himself gulping his vodka, crunching his face to the strong taste, he took another whiff of his cigar before placing it into an ashtray on the bar stand.

"Why are you acting this way towards me?" She whined like a child in distress, he pursed his lips tapping his feet on the floor slowly, he felt as though he was in a daze because his head felt heavy because he had lots of unanswered questions even his wife may not be able to answer. He darted his attention to the package again and sighed, putting his head between his hands. Just what was he going to do?

"What do you mean?" Chris asked innocently, twirling his glass gently., He recalled her colleague talking about the party in the office and contemplated whether to ask her or not since her part of the story doesn't entail such or were they not together.

"You are doubtful of my words, why don't we switch to video so I can show you that I'm not lying." She pressured trying to prove her innocence. It could be a facade of hers to hide her true Intentions but he wasn't going to be bothered about that, all he wanted to know was if she was cheating or not.

"There's no reason to do that." He assured her wanting to end the call as soon as possible because her voice began to irritate him.

"Yes, there is." She pressured immediately switching to video call likewise Chris, she was in a mobile phone store. "Have your doubts been cleared now?" She frowned at him, Chris stared silently for a while internally scolding himself for jumping to conclusions all of a sudden but he also felt that he couldn't fully believe what she said, she could have planned this to fool him.

"I'm sorry about that." He apologized for having no more reasons to talk to her, he thought of telling her about the package but decided against it since he wanted to make more investigation and hope he was on the right track.

"Don't you trust me anymore? Did something happen for you to act this way?" She tried figuring but he wasn't going to tell her anything. He sat on the couch once again leaning his back and crossing his legs.

"I was just concerned that you had ended the call rather hastily, I had no idea it happened and I'm sorry." He apologized hoping she was going to drop the topic and end the call as soon as possible.

"I heard there was a party, did you attend?" He finally asked and there was a long pause as if there was a connection breakage but his wife was just stunned by his question. This made him even more suspicious that she was lying to him, he tilted his face slightly as if demanding to get an answer.

"Party?" She replied when she regained her composure.

"Yeah, Susan said you attended."

"Oh, yes, it was a business party but I wasn't invested in it" She explained, Chris simply nodded his head listening to her as she continued to explain while he took another gulp of his vodka

"It was too noisy and I had to leave there before I got a terrible migraine." She explained further.

"You must be busy so we can talk later." He suggested wanting to end the call as soon as possible.

"Sure! Bye, honey." She waves at him and ends the call. Chris brushed his hair back sighing in exhaustion as he wondered if he was mistaken. They had both been married for years and he knew there were other men making advances toward her but she always declined because she loved him. Could it be that she finally agreed?

"Could this be an attempt to break our relationship so they can have her or did she willingly accept their advances?" Chris thought to himself.
