Declan looked at the message he had just received with a smile before his eyes drifted to the clock beside him.

‘06:38am’

He climbed out bed dropping his phone on the table before walking into his bathroom.

*Ring! Ring!! Ring!!!*

Declan walked out wearing a bathrobe towards the bedside table grabbing his phone before answering the call.

“Sir, I hope you have received the list? Just calling to confirm.”

“Yes, I have. Nice job.” Declan replied. “Though I don't recognize one of the names in the list… you said the Kingston Family, who are they?”

“Not sure myself sir. It was one of the names I found out. I was actually hoping that you would have recognized it. If you want, I can look into it for you.”

“No need. I will have Tye look into it himself. He's faster at this type of thing.” Declan said, sitting down on the bed. “You, on the other hand, will have to look for something else for me.”

“I am all ears sir.”

“A man by the name of Dr. Timothy Axeland. Find for me everything you

“The Ashers?” Declan's eyes narrowed into slits as he looked upon his mother. “You are joking right?” “I wish. Now imagine my surprise when I found out that my son happens to be the one who saved the very same man that had ordered my elimination.” Elizabeth said with a sad smile on her face as she watched her son’s face. She could see his turbulent emotions raging inside. “This is surprising.” Declan said with a heavy sigh. “To think something like that will come back to bite me… saving the man who tried to kill my mother… How funny.” He added with a snicker. Declan could feel his rage building up… not against Mandy or her grandfather but against himself… for being the bigger fool. “Son, I can only imagine what you are thinking now but-.” “No need. Since the Ashers happen to be one of the unfortunate families that had gone against ours, they can only show their impending retribution.” Declan balled his fist tightly. ‘I will teach that old ma not to mess with

“Manipulate you?” Declan looked at Mandy in shock before falling back into the seat he had stood up from. “What is that supposed to mean?” “Don't lie to me. You and I both know that my family was involved in getting your family out of the town. Did you become my friend to manipulate me?!” Mandy asked, almost yelling. Declan shook his head as he watched a tear slide down Mandy's cheek. “So you are aware that your family framed my family… chasing us out of the town?” “What are you talking about? We didn't do anything but remove a threat from the city. Answer my question and stop twisting this against us.” “And here I was thinking that you would be willing to hear the whole story before picking sides.” Declan said pain flashing through his eyes. He stood back up and turned away from Mandy. “Believe what you want to believe, but I have already seen where you stand.” “So I am right… Everything was a lie.” “If I became your friend to manipulate you, your grandfather wouldn't

Mandy looked at the old man in front of her with widened eyes. “What's with the look? If we denounce him in front of the public, it might as well remove every form of suspicion from our family.” Asher said with a shrug. “And I am guessing that you would want me to make the announcement?” “Well, you are the one that he is mostly seen with… who else to take the shot?” Grandpa Asher fired back and Mandy nodded with a grim look on her face. “If you will excuse me grandpa, I think I need some time alone.” Mandy said walking out of the living room. *** Declan sat in his car, leaning against the chair. A shrill ringing tone cut through the air and he grudgingly reached for his phone. *Beep* “Hello… you better have good news for me Tye.” “And indeed I do. I found a potential lead to Kingston. There is a guy that promised information for the right sum and already agreed to meet him at a cafe with enough money to get him spilling.” “And you are sure that the guy is a real deal?”

The bodyguard hesitated looking at the bundle of money in Declan's hand before turning to the bodyguard closest to the curtain. “Go tell the boss that someone came to look for him with ‘the’ name.” The bodyguard nodded before walking past the curtain. Declan sat swirling the contents of his glass while watching as the bodyguard who had previously left returned and conversed with his colleagues. Then one of them walked up to him slowly. “I presume you have spoken to your boss?” Declan snorted at the guard who bowed slightly. “He requested your presence above. One of us will take you to him.” The bodyguard said meekly before backing away. Declan dropped his glass and stood up filling the guard to the stairs. He was led upstairs and into a large room with red lights, a piano at one end with shelves of wine. He scanned the room and saw someone seated comfortably on the largest sofa in the room flanked by two bodyguards on both sides of the couch… each of them tensed with a hand

Declan broke into a wide smile as he trailed his gaze over the twelve people who had come for him. “Tell your master that if I know too much, that should be his problem alone.” Declan replied. “Though I don't think you would be making it alive to leave here… not to mention meeting him.” The bodyguard waved his hand and the thugs moved towards Declan swinging their bats. Declan leaned back dodging one of the bats before lashing out with a wide sweep kick sending one of the thugs straight into a wall where he stayed dead… blood and brain matter sleeping out of the cracked skull. “Don't tell me that this is actually the best that you all have?” Declan said with a chuckle. The thugs grunted and broke into a run towards Declan. Declan moved aside from all their hits with ease while landing hits back at viral parts of their body. In a few minutes, Declan dusted his trousers before looking at the five guys in black suits looking at him surrounded by the six thugs. “If these guys ar

May dropped the pen in her hand while the secretary packed up the files. “A copy of the contract will be sent towards your company later.” Mandy said with a smile. “So how about we share a drink to celebrate this moment?” Mandy stood up and walked up to a wine shelf where she pulled out a bottle of red and poured it into two glasses. “So, will you be making a public announcement or something of the sort?” May asked. “Why? To denounce Declan?” “Wait what? No… I was talking about me.” May asked, her eyes flashing at Mandy. “Wait a minute. You want to denounce Declan in an announcement?” “Yes.” Mandy said, handing her a glass of wine. “And I suggest you do too. You guys may be divorced but people might still think that the Williams are somehow involved in the scandal of the Kings. I believe you know what happened?” “Yes… but is it true? Saying that the Kings family killed hundreds of thousands?” May asked. “Besides, what if nothing about the scandal had to do with Declan?” “Yo

“What is the relationship between your family and that of Declan King who is said to be involved in a scandal?” Mandy looked at the reporter who had asked the question before showing a soft smile. “The relationship between the Kings and the Ashers is nothing of major importance. Whatever had happened between the two in the past was based on pure professionalism.” “So are you saying that your family has no ties with the Kings?” Daily Press.Another voice chimed. “That is exactly what I am trying to say. Whatever was between the Kings and the Ashers was based on a deal to heal the Asher patriarch… a deal that has been finalized. There is nothing linking us to that family again… neither is there anything linking us to their family scandal.” Mandy replied with a smile. “An article came out months back that you and Declan King had some romantic relationship going on. Are you perhaps denying him now because of the scandal around his name?” A reporter at the far bench asked everyone in

Get yourselves into the Deckers and the Evans industries for me. This should be done without any hitch. I will tell you what to do when you have secured a place in the company.” Declan explained. “And this should be done by a man in a company. Any more could cause suspicion.” “Yes sir.” “That's not all. I will also need you and your twin to get into a place for me… go to the ‘midnight’ club and get yourselves a job as bodyguards working for the head of the club himself. Declan walked down the stairs cleaning his eyes as he descended with a clear smile on his face. Two days had passed since he had a blood fest against Mandy and the men that she had brought. He walked into the dining room and grabbed the coffee pot for the machine and poured himself a cup. “Hmm, a cup of coffee first thing in the morning… who are you and what have you done with my Kazuka?” Declan turned to see his mother seated at the table with a plate of toasts and fruits before her. “Good morning mother.” Declan said, walking up to her. He kissed her on the cheek before taking a seat beside her. “Someone woke up on the right side of the bed today.” Elizabeth said with a smile. “What's making my boy all cheery in the morning?” “Nothing… I was just thinking of my plans for the day.” Declan replied, taking a sip from the cup in his hand. “Must be a very interesting day you have planned out for yourself if this is the kind of expression you have first thing in the morning.” “I

May climbed out of the car walking towards Declan with her hands slightly raised. “Mandy, you don't need to do this.” She said softly. “You can just tell your men to leave and we can all just forget that something like this ever happened.” “Shut up!” Mandy snapped, turning her glare to May who shuddered under the killing intent that Mandy poured out. “This is all his fault. My grandfather is dead and it's all his fault.” She yelled in pain

Imagine asking someone out on a date and then deciding to let the person drive there.”Declan said, shaking his head, opening the door for her to get in. “That's no different than asking the person to meet up with you for a business lunch.” “It's the thought behind it that matters Declan… God, are all the men of the King family stubborn?” May said with a sigh while Declan chuckled in response driving away. “so, what about Mandy? Any news about her after your meeting today?” “Well, I got reports that she was approached by a lady and was taken to a station for questioning. The company was given a trial in a few days and from there everything will play out.” Declan shrugged. “Not if you cause the company to fold.” May said

May's eyes widened in shock. She looked at the man who looked nothing above his early thirties before shaking her head in disbelief. “So you are old? A hundred?” She asked, still in doubt. “Can we not put a number on it? Surprised that I am around your grandpa’s age?” Declan asked with an amused look. “Shocked? Declan, you don't look a day above thirty five.” She replied before reaching for her glass of wine. “Well, I suppose it was one of the reasons families decided to go against us. Certain families after discovering our secret became afraid. I suppose that was the reason the Deckers family decided to launch Project K-11. They wanted to make soldiers that could match our prowess which as you should know ended in failure while claiming the lives of many people. Four families… all jealous of the power we had decided to band against us and send us out of the city that we had built as a home for ourselves. They had even nailed the blame of Project K-11 on our family and after som

‘Reporting the death of the patriarch of the Asher family, Asher Keaton was reported dead having passed away yesterday in the early hours of the afternoon.’ Declan looked at the news on the television before turning to the phone in his hand. He had over a dozen missed calls from Mandy which he suspected was for him to chew him out. He turned to the maid and pointed at the wine shelf before turning back to the news. ‘News reaching the media now is pointing towards the Asher industries about another of their multiple evil deeds against the city. A construction scandal done towards a project of building a city facility which was supposedly done with fake materials.’ ‘Experts are being brought in to investigate the nature of the materials used to build the facility.’ ‘The Asher industries are also said to be on the very brink of bankruptcy with their stocks fallen before the twenty-five percent mark.’ “This is actually a very good cause for one to celebrate.” Declan said, reaching fo

Mandy looked around the office with a heavy sigh before going back to the work she was handling on her laptop. It has been a week since May had announced her innocence and sued the Asher to court. The trial had gone against them, making them pay over a hundred and fifty million in compensation at the demand of the Williams. After that, bits and bits of the company's confidential data happened to find their way into the social media giving them a black name among the public. The company stocks had fallen by over forty seven percent and it wasn't rising back, leaving the company a few steps away from folding due to bankruptcy. Her attention is drawn away when the door of her office opens letting Asher in. “Another one has been released.” He said with a bitter smile on his face. “This is getting worse than I expected.” Mandy groaned and slumped back against her chair in despair. She blamed everything on Declan… it was all his fault all for a pointless revenge due to an old injury

Mandy sipped from the glass in her hand, her gaze fixed on the television before her. On the table before her, some files laid open with a pad at the edge of the table. ‘An announcement has been scheduled this afternoon for the public residents of the city. The host of the announcement is non either than May Williams -.’ “Pfft!.” Mandy spilled out a mouthful of wine onto the files in front of her. She gazed at the screen in shock… May was alive meaning that Declan must have either saved her or the men weren't able to get to her in time. Either way, her plan had been flunked. She exhaled and gripped the glass in her hand till it shattered spilling over the floor. She stood up from the couch and walked out. At the other side of the city, May looked around and exhaled softly. She was in the Williams industries and was surrounded by different reporters that she had invited for an announcement. She turned towards a corner of the hall where a figure dressed in black with its face
