Can you prove that?

Chapter 8

Nathan arrived at the largest car assembly in the whole of country X.

He was welcomed warmly by one of the car attendants, whose smiles were charming and heart-melting.

“You're welcome sir," “this way sir." She gestured.

" I'll need a Bentley and the latest model of Maserati 20 bm.“ He uttered.

The attendant nodded, walking forth as Nathan hailed behind him.

She came to a halt, and with smiles plastered on her oval face, she gestured towards the Bentley.

“Sir, this is the available Bentley.“

Nathan marveled at the sight of the Bentley, happiness surged within him.

“Can I test them?" He asked.

The attendant nodded.

He was fascinated at the sight of the golden Bentley, and also the Yellow color.

He loves yellow a lot.

“Can this Bentley be customized?“

“Yes, of course." The attendant chimed.

" In what way would you love your car to be customized, I would like to bring to your notice that this car is worth thirty million dollars.“

Nathan paused a while, with his gaze fixed on the Bentley.

“The Dark and the Yellow. Name, Nathan Harlow." He said.

“This.“ Nathan stretched his Golden card toward the sales attendants.

Upon receiving the Golden card, the sales attendants were shocked, barely struggling to swallow a spit.

A golden card? Her eyes widened afraid she was suffering illusion. This golden card is rare and is always used by the world first class, she pondered on how Nathan was able to acquire such.

“The fees for the customization are not inclusive of the 30 million dollars sir.“

" Take the fee from it. How much does it cost?“

“Just 500,000 dollars sir."

“And just do it." He motioned.

He was ushered into the regular suite to relax before his car would be ready.

Upon getting in, the receptionist recognized him and whispered some words to her other colleagues. He could hear their laughter.

Nathan noticed he was being talked about, when he turned around, it was Mary, Angie's bestie.

“Oh, look who we have here.“ She chortled.

Nathan stared at her from the corner of his eye and got exasperated. He was enthusiastic today and wouldn't want Mary to spoil his day.

Lest he forget, Mary had always been the one instigating Angie to talk bad about him because of his financial bankruptcy.

Coincidentally, he had always walked in time to listen to their conversations.

Anytime he overheard them,he couldn't but to feel sad, because her conversations with Angie were always for Angie to cheat on him, and get the richest guy to herself.

“Where have you been all this while? Under the bridge, I know." Mary grinned.

The attendant rolled her eyes from Nathan to Mary in askance.

“What have you come to do here? Stalked Angie? Oh, you heard Angie is coming alongside her better-off boyfriend to this place?“

" Her boyfriend would get her a new Mercedes Benz, while you?“she arched her brow, her eyes rolling underneath her brow as she scrutinized Nathan's outfit.

“Dressed in a hire suit. Uhm, uhm.“

" I can see, you're doing well in bankruptcy.“ Mary's words caused the jeer to bust into the air, those jeers were from her colleague.

“Bankruptcy." They mimicked.

“Watch how you talk to our VIP customer, he came here to purchase a Bentley.“ She was cut off.

“Bentley my foot!" Mary fumed. “ I can bet with you in my life that this man you see over there can't even afford to board a taxi talk more of a bicycle.“

" I know him, his name is Nathan Harlow, a deliveryman who was long kicked out of his girlfriend's house over his inability to provide a sustainable income. He was a liability to her, so he was kicked out to the street.“

Nathan who was getting entertained at Mary's gibberish encoused himself in one of the couches, sitting like a king.

He seems to be unperturbed at Mary's speech, he never blinks an eye as he studies the shape of her mouth and teeth.

“How sure are you?" One of the attendants asked.

" 100 percent sure. You see, he is mute because he knows I'm telling the truth. Look at the way he's winking at me, he is signaling me to keep quiet.“

“Who? Me?" Nathan gave a light chuckle.

“winking you parrot to keep quiet? I know gossiping, talking and backbiting are your talent.“ “why would I obstruct you from doing what you're good at?“ Nathan tentatively inquired with a wry smile.

Mary was garrulous, she could talk for a straight 70 minutes without taking a break whenever it was a matter relating to gossip and badmouthing. Nathan knew this to be her flaw.

He pitied the man who would get married to her.

Some of the attendants laughed heartlessly at his words.

“Please, keep talking." Nathan urged, waving his hands. " If you stop, I'm afraid you may fall sick."

At Nathan's scorn, Mary couldn't complete her words anymore as the rest of it escaped into thin air. Her cheeks flustered red, her blood boiling in rage and vengeance.

“Just you wait Nathan, I'll disgrace you. “She vowed within herself.

“If you all think I'm lying, his girlfriend Angie will soon be here.“

Nathan's demeanor remained unchanged as he maintained his sitting position.

“Sir, a cup of coffee." A coffee was brought over to his side, which he took without hesitation.

“check your score sheet! You must have been scammed by this thing.“Mary emphasized in her last words. “Believe anything I said, that man is destitute.“

“Check it now if the money has gotten into your account.“

Nathan stood to his feet at that moment heading towards the exit door.

“You see?" Mary added.

" I knew he was a scammer, the moment he heard that, he stood up. You guys should hold him down so he won't run away. He should be arrested, and detained.“

The attendants present all attest to what Mary was saying.

Why would Nathan have stood up when Mary had mentioned that he was a scammer?

Was he trying to run away?

They observed him and noticed the stress on his face.

Nathan was getting frustrated at Mary'sibberish. He had enough of her words and was going to show her how superior he was he was.

He took his phone, swiped on the icon buttons, dialed some numbers, and placed the phone over to his ear.

The call was picked up on the first ring.

“Where are you? I've been waiting all day.“

Mary wondered who Nathan was talking to over the phone. She was certain it was a fake call.

“Where do you think you're going, Nathan? You realized that your identity as a scammer was unfolded now you want to run off, and who are you talking to over the phone? Your partner?“

" Where I'm going is none of your business, and who I call shouldn't be your business either. And about me being a scammer, do you have proof? Would you be able to defend that?“

“Proof?" Mary's brow knitted in scorn. "your presence alone serves as evidence."

"I bet if you will be able to utter your usual gibberish when my partner arrives.“

“Partner?" They chorused in askance, their gaze narrowed down to Nathan to check if his outfit was worth the praise he was rendering himself, but a book should not be judged by its cover.

Mary fazed, with panic eating through her skin. “Partner? What if he truly has a partner?

Mary shrugged off the ideas because she was confident that no one would ever associate themselves with a loser or failure like Nathan.

“If truly you have a partner," Mary rolled her eyes on him irritatingly. “He will be as miserable, and a pauper as you are.“
