National hero

Chapter 7

[Yes! ]

Nathan shoved his elbow in the air as his heart couldn't contain the joy and excitement within him.

[… Congratulations on your achievement. You've just unlocked the next phase, and have earned a bronze star,100 coins, seventy thousand dollars.]

[Bonus task: Invest in a law firm to earn additional coins. The next task would be revealed upon the completion of this task.]

Nathan was quick with the process as he asked Alice the capital required for setting up a law firm.

Her last words shocked him.

“You not only save my life but also provide a means of income for me, I promised never to let you down, I'll always be loyal to you.“

Nathan, shocked at her words, forced some smiles.

Even Though he could see the smile on her face, it melted his heart but he was somehow sad and unfulfilled because he hadn't gotten her certificate.

Maybe sooner he'd ask how her boss was able to set her up, he'd look for evidence and clear her name off.

“System, when am I going to get her certificate?" Nathan asked, poking his chest with the tip of his finger.

The system bleeped.

[We both work towards that, it's going to be an adventure journey but right now you need to get a car and a shelter for you and her.]

Nathan cogitated and found the idea to be good.

His phone bleeped, he checked the notification and saw that he was not only credited 70 thousand dollars but also an additional four hundred thousand dollars.

He didn't buy the idea of living together with Alice. Instead of settling himself, he opted for the purchase of a duplex building for Alice who screamed for joy.

“Your first job is to draft a business contract between me and MacDonald's foods and drinks. Thirty years term, fifty-fifty percent share on the yielded sales profit.“

Alice nodded.

"How many days would it take before the contract is ready?“

" Days?“ Alice blushed.

" Just give me a maximum of thirteen hours and everything will be ready.“

Nathan nodded and gave the key to the duplex to Alice. He checked for his taste of house through the catalogue that was offered to him but none was compared to his taste.

So he waved Alice goodbye.

Breaking news

*It was recorded earlier today that a young man whose name and identity are unknown had saved a young lady from committing suicide.* The newscaster reported.

* This is the picture of the hero who helped save a life today.*

*It is no news that the rate of suicides committed in this country is currently at 58 percent.

If the country could see a man like this man, then the world would be a better place. As you can see from the videos below while the young lady was broken, trying to commit suicide, others were viewing, recording her with their phones, laughing at her but then this young man helped to save her life.*

This is Joy Jenner reporting from CNN News.

The TV then went blank.

Nathan saw himself on the billboard being appreciated and hailed as a hero for saving a young lady from committing suicide.

He was short of words.

Some of the people watching recognized him.

They all swam to his side, pleading to sign an autograph for them.

“Please can I take a picture with you?"

“Please help sign an autograph. I'm a true fan of yours, and I admire your courage for saving this young lady.“ one among the crowd spoke.

“If only time could be reversed backward, you would have saved my only son from committing suicide. He was being bullied, so he committed suicide.“ An old woman lamented.

Nathan felt sorry for the woman and was already getting tired, and frustrated at the crowd surrounding him.

They weren't granting him space to breathe. The ventilation was congested even though the place was an open place.

Nathan somehow got free.

He flagged down a taxi, and off to a restaurant to rest.

He just needed a cool, quiet place to have his lunch.

As he alighted from the car, he saw two young boys staring at some pastries that were advertised in a transparent glass.

His memories flooded into his head. He could remember when he would always stand in front of a seller whenever he was hungry, so they could give him buns but at the end of the day, they'd sprinkle salt at his face, and chase him away.

“You need that?" His voice jolted the boys out of their imagination.

They were startled.

“I won't hurt," Nathan assured with a sweet smile.

He arched his brow in askance, as he winked towards the shop.

They nodded.

He urged them to follow him.

Nathan requested them to choose any of the pastries they wanted.

The younger one chose cakes, burgers, and doughnuts.

“Hey." The elder one yelled.

“He says to pick not to carry many."

“Let him be. Choose as many as you may want.” Andre encouraged them.

Soon, they were seated at the end of the pastry shop.

Nathan watched the kids eating happily, he was so filled with their smiles that he didn't even remember to take a bite of what he had ordered for himself.

The voice of the elder brother disrupted his peaceful moment.

“Joel, take your hands off the man burgers? Why so greedy?"

Nathan glanced at Joel whose face was buried in shame and dissatisfaction.

“But I still want to eat." The little boy grumbled.

"You might indeed be hungry, but you shouldn't turn yourself into an ingrate or glutton over a burger. You should have asked for his permission.“ his brother advised.

“You've got ego and pride, you should protect and flaunt it.“

“Would protecting my ego make me satisfied? Or filled the hunger burning within my stomach?“ The little boy hissed.

" The ego should go to hell."

Joel yelled, picking up the burger while he ignored his brother's caveat.

Nathan was overwhelmed by their utterance. Ego, and pride.

“Joel, your brother is right. You should learn how to take permission before taking someone's stuff.“

The little boy retracted his hand dropping the burger.

" Are you angry at me?“ He asked.

Nathan shook his head.

" I'm sorry uncle, I'm just hungry, can I take this?“

Nathan cackled into a sweet smile. " I'm not angry, and yes you can take it."
