Chapter 6

[System warning!]

[Danger!]

The words are displayed on the screen boldly in red ink.

Nathan panicked as he read through the hologram, which he repeated unknowingly to him. “Danger?"

[ A young lady is about to commit suicide. You have just fifty minutes to save her.]

“So where?" He was cut off by the system display.

[Random bridge off crescent road. Thirty minutes drive from here. Dressed in a yellow body hug, blonde hair, shoulder length.]

Nathan flagged down a taxi, informing the driver of his Intended movement.

Nathan arrived at the bridge, running out of the taxi. His hope was cut by the view.

There were tons of people walking around the bridge. How was he supposed to identify the lady with a yellow body hug?

He glided through the croapologizingsing when necessary. He grabbed a girl who was dressed in a yellow tight cloth, the girl tossed her head to glare at him.

He apologised,and ran off panting, he spoke.“What's her name? How old is she?"

needed to know if she was that old in her thirties or twenties.

[Alice Yang. 24 years old, a former worker at Lee's and son's chambers was sacked last three months. She is an orphan who graduated as one of the best students in Oxford University. Her parents died leaving her with an inheritance of educational loan which is unpaid, housing debt, belittled by friends and colleagues for not riding a car, neglected by her former boss over her not sleeping with him. She's tired of life and opting to kill herself. ]

[If you can hire her, in the next three years she would be a renowned barrister, and the most sought-after in the country, her allegiance and loyalty would be for you only. You will need her against your future rival.]

“Hmm…” Nathan breathed out.

He walked faster, looking around for Alice.

Life must have been so hard for her, but that doesn't mean she should choose suicide over an unforeseen opportunity.

The system gave him fifty minutes, and this was already 35 minutes. This implies that he's left with only 15 minutes to find her.

What if he can't find her?

What if she dies?

He had been searching around the abandoned bridge which was filled with crowds.

It was forty minutes on the dot yet not a glimpse of her.

He shut his eyes, whirling around. In the process, he opened his eyes to see a lady climbing over the bridge.

People were staring at her like she was a Wonder Woman instead of begging her to come down.

They were all laughing at her.

Nathan walked slowly towards her in a bid to sweet-talk her.

“In all my life, no one has ever loved me, or even shown a bit of concern to me. No one knows me despite my struggle to save the wrongly accused from going to jail. Maybe if I jumped off this bridge, I'll be recognized in the whole world as a young girl in her mid-twenties who jumped off the bridge.“

Alice spoke with her shut eyes, trying to jump down when Nathan glanced over his wristwatch, it was exactly 49 minutes.

Nathan jumped to get hold of her.

She jerked, lifting her gaze to behold Nathan.

“What are you?" She inquired in a broken tone.

"How dare you obstruct the way to my game?“ Hot tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Alice, we can talk things out." She shrugged her head in disapproval.

“No one cares about me." She jerked her hand from Nathan's grip.

" I'll .“ Nathan replied to her.

"No one knows me.“ " just let go of me.“ She yelled.

The effects of her yell caused the

onlookers to cover their ears as her voice was loud.

Nathan would have let go at that moment when her voice had hit his eardrum.

He summoned his inner strength and roared. “I know you!"

“You're Alice Yang! A renowned lawyer. I'm interested in hiring you, please don't say no.“

Nathan uttered with pain in his ear, he patiently awaited her response.

He concluded in his mind that if his words failed to change her mind, then he would have no choice but to drag her up.

Amidst the ongoing austere silence that persists between them, she looked down, then looked up, shutting her eyes tightly.

Two seconds later, her eyes opened accompanied by sweet smiles that curved up her oval face.

“Thank you for knowing me, but…”

As she was lost in her words, unaware, Nathan drew her up.

She struggled for Nathan to let go, and even bit him hard on his wrist, but Nathan never let go.

The crowd roared in uproarious jubilation. Surrounding Andre and the lady.

They brought out their phone to snap.

Nathan breathed out heavily, placing his hands across his ear. He nipped at her, she was ashamed as she crossed her arms over her face in an x format.

He rushed forth to protect her from the crowd, hence leading her away.

They were at the roadside when the lady collapsed, breaking down in tears.

“You shouldn't have saved me." She cursed at him.

“I do, and nothing would happen to you now henceforth. I need your assistance."

“How sure are you that nothing would happen to me? Don't you know my former boss would not stop at any length until he saw that I'm dead? “

“He spreads news about me that I'm mentally ill, and no one should hire me as their lawyer. He set me up with drugs, I was termed as a lawyer who is a drug addict. I have been withdrawn from the association.“

“You were withdrew?“ Nathan arched his brow.

She nodded affirmatively.

" You were withdrawn but your certificate was not seized. “Nathan repeated. "that means there's still hope for you, trust me." He winked.

Alice looked away, digging her fingers into the hard soil.

“Fine." Nathan chimed at her response as she nodded her head repeatedly.

“What if I open a chamber for you, and make you the most renowned and sought-after lawyer in the countryside and around the world?“

Nathan asked, her eyes widened in awe.

“What's the essence of opening a chamber without my certificate? I was banned. How would you unban me?“

Nathan, confused at that moment, called on the system.

He intended to inquire if there could be a solution to that. He would help her get her certificate back but he can't promise that unless the system assured him that he could.

Fake promises made to someone in dire need, left unfulfilled is worse than bullying.

“System, could there be a way to unban her, and collect her seized certificate?“

[Voom…] buzzing sound of the system.
