Chapter 5

Our Secrets Are Catching Up With Us

Charlie later came by Oliver’s place. She sat next to Roland while pouring a drink into his cup. Meanwhile, Oliver stood akimbo, wondering how he fumbled his duty to the city.

“What are you gonna do now, Oly? I mean, your life is pretty messed up. “I’m shocked you haven’t gotten a call from the Vatican yet,” Charlie said.

“I’m going to have a word with Ludacris,” Oliver said sternly.

“You are not going to have a word with anybody, Oliver,” Roland demanded.

“Relax, I’m not going to kill anybody,” Oliver assured.

“Then I’m coming with you,” Roland declared.

“I wanna come too.” We’ve been best friends, Oly, and you’ve always been there for me. “I want to be there for you,” Charlie stated.

“No. Ludacris hurt Damian because he knew he couldn’t harm the priest. I don’t want him to hurt you. “Please stay back,” Oliver begged.

“Okay,” Charlie said in accordance with his plea.

“Let’s go,” Oliver said, referring to Roland. He then took his car keys and left.

“Don’t get killed!” Charlie yelled.

“What do you mean by that question?” Father Michael asked. He pretended as though he didn’t know what she was talking about.

“Tell me the truth, father!” Mrs. Welhourst yelled in anger and was almost in tears. There was a moment of silence before the priest decided to speak.

“There are creatures dwelling in our city, under our noses.” “He died at the hands of one of them,” Michael’s father confessed. His confession shocked Mes Welhourst. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

“So pastor Zack was right.” “You are affiliated with those creatures,” she said in disappointment.

“Pastor Zack? What do you… what do you mean?” Father Michael asked in confusion.

“Didn’t you watch the news?” He said that you preach against darkness when, in fact, you are darkness. I’m sure if I walked up to you and asked whether mystical creatures existed, you would have looked me in the eye and spelled out a big, fat no. Father—I mean Michael—you have not only lost your parishioners but you have lost your church. “No one’s going to want to listen to the word of God from a man who works with the devil,” Mrs. Welhourst said with full scorn, and then she began leaving the church.

“Mrs Welhourst! Mrs Welhourst!” Father Michael called out, but she ignored him.

Oliver drove over to the vampire’s lair along with Roland. They made quite the entrance. All the vampires in the room stared at them. Oliver then used his telekinesis to destroy the source of the music that played in the background.

“Why the fuck is Ludacris?” Oliver asked sternly.

“You’ve got a lotta nerve bringing a human to a place filled with hungry vampires.” One of the vampires stated

“If anyone lays as much as a finger on him… Oliver said but was cut short by Ludacris’s entrance. He came in holding a female human. It was clear that he had just finished drinking some of her blood because his lip area was filled with blood.

“Go home and forget you ever came here,” Ludacris said, compelling the human, and then she left.

“Why the nerves, Oly?” Ludacris said with contempt.

“Congratu-fucking-lations. You just made me a public target. “Now give me what you stole from me.” Oliver spoke sternly.

“For the last time, we didn’t steal anything,” Ludacris stressed.

“It’s okay, Oliver, let’s go,” Roland advised. There was a moment of silence. All the vampires in the room began peering at Oliver and Ronald.

“Watch your back, Ludacris.” “Watch it,” Oliver threatened, then he left with Roland.

It was already time for evening mass, and it was no surprise to Father Michael that no one showed up to celebrate the mass. No sooner did the police barge into the church.

“Are you my father, Michael?” One of the officers asked.

“Yes, officer, how can I help you?” He asked.

“Hands behind your back, you’re under arrest, father,” he replied sternly, and the priest did as he was ordered.

Claudia came back to the vampire lord’s lair bearing news.

“Omar, did you hear?” She asked with a smirk.

“What happened?” Omar asked.

“Our dear Oliver is a wanted man. “He might not be now, but when the Vatican finds out about the stolen ring, he’s gone,” Claudia said with satisfaction.

“The plan is not to lose Oliver.” You see, I need him alive for my future plans. He doesn’t know the power he possesses, and now is not the right time for him to know. “Even if he becomes aware of who he is, he will not be able to harness the power he possesses without the help of two like-minded individuals,” Omar explained.

“I have no intentions of using the ring of the damned.” “I’m just saving it for the right moment,” he continued.

“So… you’re not making me immortal?” Claudia asked. Omar became silent, and that was when she realized that she had been used.

“You fucking bastard! “You used me!” Claudia yelled.

“I saved you from death, and I’ll do it a thousand times if I have to.” “You don’t need to become immortal; with me, you already have immortality,” Omar said, trying to convince her, but she wasn’t buying it.

“At least be bold enough not to lie to me, Omar!” You don’t want to grant me the power of immortality because then you wouldn’t have control over me. If I can’t die, then I can do whatever I want, and you don’t want that. Do you?” Claudia asked, and Omar didn’t answer.

“Answer me!” Claudia yelled in his face.

“I am Omar Reginald! I do not answer to anyone! You answer to me!” Omar retorted.

“Fuck you!” Claudia cursed and walked out on him. Furious Omar used the ring of the damned powers and rose Claudia in the air, then dropped her hard several times until she was dead.

As Oliver drove his car home, he had a conversation with Roland.

“The first time I talked with Ludacris, he called me di’ablo, meaning the devil in Spanish. “Then the pastor said I didn’t know what I was, and it was best to keep it that way,” Oliver said.

“Don’t think about all those right now, Oly, please,” Roland begged.

Then the priest… said he was no longer going to be an ally to the vampires, the witches, the wizards, and me. “Throughout today, I got the impression that I was something else—that I was different,” Oliver said, worried.

“You were born to keep the balance between evil and good,” Roland stated.

“Fuck that! Fuck that! As far as I know, I was born of a wizard and a human, and I don’t even know spells. I just think about what I want to do and just do it. “I must be something else if you guys think I’m the most powerful creature in this city,” Oliver said, bothered.

“I have nothing to say to you.” You’re just overthinking things because today was a very stressful day for you. “You’re lucky the Vatican hasn’t called you after the breaking news,” Roland said. Some seconds later, the Vatican began calling Oliver. He was quite scared to pick up, but he soon mustered the courage to do so.

“Jean, I can explain.” I wasn’t the one who killed those five innocent humans. “The vampires did it to get back at me,” Oliver explained.

“I’ll get to that later, but for now, the ring of the damned was just used,” she replied.
