As Fang Yu opened his eyes, a surge of information mysteriously appeared in his mind. It only took him a couple of seconds to decipher the content.
"I have somehow temporarily traversed back to a mythological era and occupied the body of the innate god, Hermes?" Fang Yu was shocked. That wasn't even the most surprising thing. In his present state, he could access all of Hermes' memories. The latter was not human but belonged to a race of native lifeforms spawned by the Shadow Hive, an heavenly treasure unique to the planet Mercury. "It can't be, right?" After knowing about the identity of the body he was occupying, Fang Yu became suspicious. The name, Hermes, carried a lot of significance in mythological context. Back when he was on Earth, he had read several myths about an ancient civilization of nine ancient gods that once governed the solar system. Each one corresponded to a planet sovereign and possessed corresponding innate authority of rules. From what he remembered, Hermes corresponded to the Mercury Sovereign and was known as the Shadowed Messenger. In the Ancient Pantheon Era, he was titled the god of communication, trade, and shadows. "The memories of this Hermes have nothing about him being an ancient god though!" Fang Yu shuffled through memory after memory, slightly disappointed to discover that the bulk of it was related to training and classes. The former was more physical, involving rigorous practice and refinement of his innate skills while the latter involved erudite sessions, with aged elders of the race imparting mystical knowledge and secrets. Fang Yu suddenly remembered another detail. "Hermes was the youngest but most cunning of the gods, mostly because of his deep grasp of psychology and the wide stock of knowledge and secrets he possessed. It would make sense if he was groomed this way from birth, and I suppose a young Hermes' life before becoming a titled ancient god matches the Hermes I'm possessing right now!" Subconsciously, Fang Yu's breath quickened. He had a sudden impulse to rifle through the memories more carefully this time to confirm his conjecture. However, a wave of psychic power was transmitted into his mind at that moment. As Young Hermes, Fang Yu automatically deciphered the message. "The date of the Red Horizon is close? What's that?" This didn't make much sense to Fang Yu until he referenced Hermes' memories. The Red Horizon was a celestial phenomenon that occurred on the planet once every sixteen millennia. Mercury, despite being the planet closest to the sun, had more regions cloaked in darkness than light. This was partially because, in the concentric orbit of all nine planets, Mercury formed a looped node with the dwarf planet Pluto, and the Underworld River from the latter flowed through the former to the other planets. As a matter of fact, the origin of the Shadow Hive on planet Mercury from which the native lifeforms were spawned was closely linked to this unique channel. On the day of the Red Horizon, the entire planet would be engulfed in darkness. Thus, it was a special day for the native residents. Customarily, it signified the end of a generation and the start of a new one. As a favoured of the Shadow Hive, Hermes could compete with others on the day of the Red Horizon to clinch the title of Mercury Sovereign. In the younger generation, he had no opponents except another prodigy, his twin Rhemes! "Now, this is rather troublesome!" Fang Yu raised a hand to stroke his temples before realizing he had a horny bump there, an innate feature of Mercurians. Twins Hermes and Rhemes were spawned on the same time and shared a telepathic connection. Fang Yu was actually more worried about Rhemes discovering something was up with his twin once they met face to face. "Well, it's not like I'm stuck in this state permanently. In some days, the effect of this unknown magic should end and I'll return to my physical body in the present. But what if I unknowingly change something in this timeline that I shouldn't?" This line of thought brought about more questions; how was this even possible in the first place? If the trigger of his present state was the planet he condensed in his solar universe like he suspected, did his temporal travel also require hidden conditions to be fulfilled before he could return? Also, where was Hermes' consciousness at the moment? Was he presently in Fang Yu's body in the future just as Fang Yu was in his in this past? It took Fang Yu a while to stabilize his mental state before resuming his analysis. "It's a pity that there's very little mythological history to reference. But logically, Hermes gaining the title of Mercury Sovereign should be the precursor to his future role as the Messenger of the Gods and ninth member of the Ancient Pantheon." Hermes, like every spawn of the Shadow Hive, had innate abilities to manipulate and move through shadow dimensions. In the future, he would hone his traversal ability to perfection, and his pure speed alone would rank at the top of the Pantheon. "Even though Hermes is far from his peak, if I can find a way to inherit or copy his abilities to use with my own body when I return......." Just as Fang Yu was lost in his whimsical thinking, a divine thought was relayed to his mind. This time, it was from a teacher of his, Elder Zeno. Same with every organization, the Shadow Spawns had some power struggles. One faction believed in competing for power with the ancient gods from other planets while the other believed in neutrality and maintaining balance. Hermes belonged to the latter while Rhemes belonged to the former. "Since the day of the Red Horizon is near, the elders of my faction will do everything they can to guide me to win the title. Hehe, this is simply perfect; I'll take the opportunity to learn as much as I can!" Wearing Hermes' face made Fang Yu's sinister smile look several grades more malevolent than it should. Fang Yu took some time to reply to the summons, secretly rifling through Hermes' memory to grasp his mannerisms, aura and mindset first. When he perfected the persona, he melded into the shadows. Shadow Blink. This was a short-range traversal ability that dispersed the physical body into shadow form to roam the Hollow, another name for the umbra dimension underlapping the physically world. In this state, one's speed was multiplied several times over. In his heart, Fang Yu was very excited. This was his first time executing a divine technique, even though it was only a reflexive activation of Hermes' innate ability. Following some coordinates in his mind, Fang Yu quickly arrived in front of Elder Zeno's residence. As Shadow Spawns had humanoid builds, the architecture of their living space was not much different from what Fang Yu imagined it would be. He secretly mused that the movie sets of Dracula must have gotten their inspiration from the sight before him. Elder Zeno flashed into view beside him without warning. His looks were identical to Hermes, the major difference being the length of the horn protruding from his temples. "Follow me!" Elder Zeno's divine thoughts rippled into Fang Yu's, no, Hermes' mind. The Shadow Race communicated this way. 'Hermes' reacted in character and executed Shadow Blink, following closely behind the elder as they moved to another location, the Yellow River Ravine which was the meeting abode of the Shadow Hive's Peace Faction. There, fifty-six more elders were gathered, waiting to commence vigorous training for their representative, Hermes. They had no way of knowing that the latter wasn't presently himself but was actually an opportunistic human from the future fishing for benefits. Upon seeing them, 'Hermes' stifled his excitement and bowed deeply, paying his respects. The aged fossils relaxed and gestured for him to move to the middle. In an instant, their divine thoughts rippled in a steady stream into 'Hermes' as they began the impartation.

Today was the day he would exit his training and compete for the title of Mercury Sovereign. *****In the training chamber, Fang Yu's eyes flew open. He had a calm expression on his face.Truth be told, Fang Yu hadn't expected he would occupy Hermes' body for this long. As days, weeks and even months passed, his emotions had alternated from mild anxiety to intense worry and finally, resignation. The good news was that he had adapted somewhat to being Hermes by now. Fortunately, the slight changes in his personality he couldn't hide were perceived by the Elders as growth and nothing else. This way, Fang Yu faced no issues with his undercover identity. As of now, he had mastered a total of hundred abilities from the initial twenty that 'Hermes' kne

Back in his own physical body in the present, Fang Yu opened his eyes, only to jump in surprise a moment after. The source of his shock, Gao Weiguang's blood avatar, was shocked too. For a while, he froze, staring fixedly at a particular corner of the dim cave. Beside him, Pei Xue was still frozen in place under the effect of the Immobilization Spell he cast earlier and was none the wiser. It was Fang Yu who eventually broke the awkward silence. Speaking from the covers of the shadows, he asked, "Master, why does your Avatar look so pale?" Somehow, the blood Avatar was now the perfect image of a ghost, or what he imagined one would look like at least.'Did something happen in the eighty-eight days I was gone as Hermes?' he wondered to himself.Meanwhile, Gao Weiguang's expression was somewhat dark and he remained silent. Only he knew what had happened in the short span Fang Yu entered the True Self Meditation State, and he wasn't willing to talk about it.Contrary to what Fang Yu's th
Nexus Grandmaster Pseudo-Demigod Strength
Fang Yu listened attentively to Gao Weiguang's lecture and assimilated the information. The description provided about the early stages were easy to follow, but it became more esoteric as it progressed. Fang Yu did not fully grasp the concept of the Dao Arbiter Realm and how it correlated to the cultivation of the spirit embryo which was the inner universe or cosmos. Did the cultivator's cosmos become the Dao Fruit? Or was it simply the evolved World Heart alone which did so? When Fang Yu voiced his questions about this, Gao Weiguang explained that achieving Dao Fruit was different for everyone, and that there wasn't a sole method of transcendence. Besides that, Fang Yu was reminded that he had already integrated with a fragment of a Dao Fruit. As long as he restored the inner cosmos he inherited to perfect condition, the chance to condense a Dao Fruit would automatically appear following the method used by the predecessor the godshard originally belonged to.With this, Gao Weiguang c
Nexus Grandmaster Six Months
Six months flew by seamlessly. In a small cultivation chamber, a figure sat cross-legged in silence. Apart from the faint glint in his eyes from an overhead reflective light, he was almost entirely invisible as he manipulated the shadows around him to conceal his presence and spirit. After a while, Fang Yu finally took a deep breath and exhaled, breaking the state. Simultaneously, the dark cover around him wriggled. "As expected, practicing the Dark Vanguard Body was the optimal choice," Fang Yu mumbled as he dispelled the shadow thicket. The room once again returned to brightness with the overhead lamp providing full illumination. In the past sixty days, Fang Yu had settled down in Qinlingjun City as a temporary resident, following his split with Pei Xue. The latter had seemed unsettled by Fang Yu's divine awakening, and chose to leave the city, parting ways with him. This arrangement was fine by Fang Yu as he was secretly wary of the other party too. After all, his mystical shadow
Nexus Grandmaster Ambush
"I've been waiting for you for quite a while!" Apparently, Wu Chen wasn't as drunk as he appeared and reacted instantly, unsheathing and slashing his sword at the invader a few metres to his left. Immediately, the latter vanished from view."Damnit, it's an ambush!" Hidden in the darkness, the assassin–Fang Yu–switched location to be safe and concealed his aura. There was no doubt that this was a pre-planned ploy. Somehow, most of the patrons of the tavern were now wielding weapons and exuding their auras to form a killing formation that permeated the entire inn.Under the killing intent, Fang Yu found it several times more difficult to conceal his spirit. It also made it hard to act as his traces would be easily discovered under the tight scrutiny.'Someone in the Assassin Guild must have double-crossed me,' he analyzed, tentatively. 'It's either that or the assassination mission was put out by Wu Chen himself to lure me here."The Assassin Guild usually provided some details about t
Nexus Grandmaster Ambushed
Shabby-looking as the warehouse of the Assassin Guild was with its dusty storage shelves and disorganized space, the treasures were still considered quite valuable. Below each treasure, there was a short description of its effect and equivalent credit exchange value.Fang Yu had been to the warehouse several times before and already identified the treasures he found useful for himself. He quickly walked past several shelves and finally stopped in front of a particular section."My dagger is only a low-grade Profound Artifact. I should exchange for another of better quality!" His combat prowess was heavily dependent on his handy dagger as it needed to be able to break through the protective cover of his opponents. It was still somewhat manageable against opponents of lower cultivation, but Fang Yu felt that he would be at a loss if he stuck with using an inferior artifact, especially in the event where he had to assassinate stronger cultivators.Skimming through the weapon rack, Fang Y

"Damn swordsmen!" Fang Yu felt a strong sense of danger coming from the cultivator as an oppressive power locked him in place. Clearly, the latter was exuding his Sword Heart to distort the surroundings laws. The Sword Dao was a postnatal Dao. Compared to connate daos like life dao or, death dao, it was less mysterious and relatively embryonic but had tremendous conceptual potential. Like now, the sharp, overbearing aura easily tore apart and dominated the natural laws of the battle zone.Unwilling to be outdone, Fang Yu gave up on sneak combat and grasped his daggers tightly, confronting the sword head on.Clang! The force from the blow of the collision almost flung Fang Yu away but he shook his body at a specific frequency, using this method to nullify the momentum and stabilize his footing. At the same time, he trickily swung the dagger in his left hand to his opponent's ribs without missing a beat. With this action, Fang Yu casually proved that a true assassin was as adept in clos
Nexus Grandmaster Hu Mei's Origin
Returning to the scene, Fang Yu looked warily at the old man beside the lifeless Hu Mei. Unlike their previous encounters, he could sense now that the man's cultivation was not weak. There was also a subtle feel of camaraderie coming from him which was weird. "It's you!," Old Li's voice shook. Faintly, there was a trace of exasperation in his tone. "You shouldn't have returned." "I came back to retrieve my Artifacts," Fang Yu's lips pursued behind the silver mask. "What, I'm not allowed to?" Old Li sensed the laced mockery and smiled wryly, "Not everyone in the Guild agreed with the Branch Leader's verdict on the matter, you know. Now that you've killed her, can we let bygones be bygones?" "Oh, she's the branch leader?" Fang Yu was surprised. He hadn't expected her to be so.....weak? Old Li could not read Fang Yu's expression but guessed his thoughts. He said, "Boss Hu's cultivation art was the Ghost Yin Curse Method. Under the circumstances, this made her combat strength far

Battle at the Sanctum
"What?" Fang Yu frowned immediately. As the sovereign of the planet, it was an understatement to say it was an insult in the first place that Aphrodite's own people were this eager to marry her off. But above that, the manner in which they did this was extremely insulting. In the Venus culture, the dowry came from the bride's side and not the other way around. Clearly, this was an open scheme to drag Aphrodite dignity through the mud.Seeing her mistress' expression turn darker, Mika shifted uneasily and asked, "Shall I prepare your carriage now, Milady?"Fang Yu looked up in surprise, "What do you mean? They didn't even come in person to relay the message?""The message was passed along by a postman," Mika's tone was very soft as she spoke, "They...they said to come meet them yourself in the Sanctum.""Oh?" Fang Yu smiled coldly. "It seems my title as Sovereign is being seen as a joke."Given the power structure of the Venus society, Fang Yu was honestly not surprised at this underh
Internal Discord
Fang Yu thought that if indeed such a situation arose one day, he would seek out solutions from the Eternal Purgatory Planet in his timeline to deal with it.His assurance was based on his knowledge of one of the top legacies in the Eternal Purgatory World, a very mysterious Buddhist inheritance from the Clear Heart Temple which cultivated one's mental state to the point of transcending mortal shackles. Their members were all monks and often offered treatment 'spiritual' services to cultivators with extreme mental issues from cases of spiritual encroachment or will possession.Fang Yu supposed it should be a piece of cake for them to deal with a simple personality disorder with their methods. Even better, he could also seek out other inheritances that refined mental purity and cultivate them to eliminate any external influence.Fang Yu left the bath and patted himself dry, rejecting the maidservants who hurriedly came up to do it in his behalf. With the Dao of Seven Emotions and Six Desires, Aphrodite's sensory method operated by sensing emotional fluctuations around her like a radar. All this while, Fang Yu's view had been a kaleidoscope of colours representing the emotions of the populace as the carriage flew back. This was the method he activated to see if he would discover anything unusual during his tour.Aphrodite hadn't shown her face in public since the unknown taboo incident occured, and Fang Yu was making this public outing in the hope that it would spark involuntary reactions from the spectators of the experience just like Mika had reacted strongly upon being reminded of White Butterfly. Coincidentally, only one person had fit the bill so far; the kid Mailo who had exuded an unusual emotion of dread when the carriage passed overhead him. "You.....answer the question!" Mika was both worried and angered when she noticed Mailo drooling instead of answering Fang Yu's question. She stole a glance at the Sovereign godd
Secrets of the Era Decline
It was possible that the event was related to the end of this era!Fang Yu had thought about this before. Modern Earth preserved a bit about the ancient era of gods in the form of myths, but the information was limited. There was nothing about how the ancient era ended, including what happened to the divine sovereign gods that ruled the solar system and what led to the recession of spiritual energy in the universe that made the future Earth environment a sparse world with zilch qi. Logically, it was almost impossible to imagine that a stronghold with such power vanished from the annuls of history without so much as clues hinting what led to their downfall. Now that Fang Yu had come across an anomaly in the ancient era, he instinctively felt it was somewhat related to the eventual extinction of the divine gods. This wasn't just an ordinary conjecture but also factored in the intuition of the ancient god he was possessing."Can I do anything to change this fate? Or should I?"This was F

"It's nothing, Milady," the maid wrung her wrist nervously.Fang Yu's frown deepened and he subtly manipulated Aphrodite's power to tug at the colourful hue around the nervous girl. The maid suddenly felt all her nervousness deflate like a balloon and the strong urge to speak came over her."It's just that you explicitly stated to destroy all the mirrors on the planet. The one beside you is the only exception because it was Sovereign Father's gift to you before he passed away, and even then, you always turn it away from your view!" After speaking, the maidservant realized she had spoken out of turn and hurriedly shut her mouth. This was after Fang Yu dispelled his remote manipulation of her emotional state.'This dao is indeed powerful, able to sense and tweak the emotions of her targets. But what's this business about having an aversion to mirrors?"To avoid coming across memories unsuitable for his viewing, Fang Yu had skipped most of Aphrodite's personal memories earlier. Now, he h

Not far away underwater, Fang Yu withdrew away his gaze from the scene upon seeing the situation and settled down to meditate, focusing wholeheartedly on recovering from the few injuries he had left.In this manner, time passed quickly. Before the day ended, he had already returned to his peak state. On a cautious hunch, he decided to ditch his present hideout before proceeding with his temporal traversal. Fortunately, there was no shortage of underwater caves around, so he didn't have to explore for long before he found one remote enough and also relatively comfortable. With all the conditions right, Fang Yu finally entered seclusion, activating the True Self Meditation Art to awaken his psyche within the miniature solar system in his Inner Cosmos. Unlike the previous time, he carefully observed the blazing star in great detail before casting his attention on the planets revolving around it. Of the nine, only one was tangible while the other eight were atavistic at the moment. Upon
Mission Accomplished
Without suspense, the defences of the two cultivators crumbled easily and Fang Yu's dagger stabbed into their hearts, claimed their lives in a bit.As their lifeforce faded, the two cultivators wore incredulous expressions on their faces. But it wasn't really a big deal; they were only at the peak Astral Conduit Realm, and if Fang Yu hadn't refrained from making a move until now because he wanted to use them as scapegoats, they would have died way earlier."This...." Su Tao witnessed the act and fell into a daze. Why did Fang Yu's act of killing these two look so...simple? These were the same people who had seemed quite mighty only a moment ago."Grab on to me tightly. My hands are full, I won't catch you if you slip," Fang Yu reminded Su Tao. Afterwards, he controlled the Sun Core within him to activate fully and initiated rapid siphoning.Whoosh! In a brilliant flash of lights, the island was suddenly bathed in resplendent sun rays. Below, cultivators and mortals strained their eye
Night Flight
The two cultivators and Fang Yu exchanged glances. One of the former took a deep breath and gingerly asked, "Ball of colourful lights, you said?""Yes. It's also bouncy and squishy.""........"'So he did receive an inheritance under those lights earlier?' Cultivator Two's eyes flickered as he gazed intently at Su Tao.Cultivator One's gaze was just as fiery and he glanced at Fang Yu to note his reaction. The latter's face betrayed no emotion.'This dude is not only foolish but also suicidal,' Fang Yu quietly added another description to Su Tao's profile in his mind. His plan was originally to make both Su Tao and the cultivator pair take the fall for him while he made away with the origin residue after siphoning most of its energy. After all, the former was likely passively protected by the secret realm itself while the latter duo had ill intentions and deserved any harm that came their way. However, he was feeling a bit hesitant right now.Even in clear danger, the merchant was so c

Eventually, Fang Yu gave up on the idea of snatching away the origin residue using this method. The plan was too risky, especially in plain sight, not to mention he would become the common target of everyone once noticed, which was bound to happen. After all, it was a pipe dream to expect to drain the energy of the flaming core conspicuously.A multitude of other ideas appeared in Fang Yu's mind and he considered them one after the other. Eventually, he settled on a particular plan which had the highest success rate.'The only thing is that the method requires a bit of luck. Hopefully, I have some of that!' Fang Yu got to his feet and straightened his posture. With a flourish, he jumped down from the cliff and moved towards the area of the island populated with cultivators.*******Meanwhile, Su Tao, the flamboyant merchant, was having the time of his life.Who would have thought that he, an ordinary mortal with only a couple of successful businesses to his name, would have this sort
