005

The backyard of the orphanage building was filled with boys who were enjoying playing soccer while laughing. They all seem to be enjoying the game. As if they were very far from the cruelty of the world. As if the color of their eyes was not a sign of danger at all.

Theo watched silently behind the window of his room. His gaze glanced far out there while his mind was out of place. His little fingers trembled as he watched how the soccer ball was being kicked around by the kids out there. It was like a whip that reminded him of the dark memories of when he was still in his old orphanage. A place he initially thought of as home but found to be nothing more than a hell full of torment.

When his body becomes the target of a kick by a soccer ball. Until he almost died because his neck was injured.

Theo spontaneously stroked a very noticeable scar on the surface of his neck. It's been a while. The wound has also dried up. But, Theo still clearly remembers the pain he felt. Also how the bodies of his friends lay helplessly on the ground inundated with blood. Then Theo shakes his head quickly to get rid of the nightmare that always haunts him all the time. The laughter of the children out there again teased Theo’s attention. Make him linger standing while holding on to the window sills.

Then unexpectedly, Jared who was her new friend, waved to him. Jared smiled broadly to the point of showing all his teeth. His cheerful face reflected a confidence that Theo had never seen. It's just that Theo is still a bit hesitant after agreeing to the golden yellow-eyed boy's offer yesterday. He wasn't sure if he could trust the boy. Will Jared be able to understand him?

“Do you like to play ball?”

Theo quickly took a standstill when a voice interrupted suddenly from behind him. In the doorway, stood a middle-aged woman while carrying a tray of food. Her smile was so warm that Theo involuntarily relaxed his guard.

“May I come in?”

Theo just nodded without uttering a word. His Odd eye watched Madam Liz’s every move. That was the name of the woman who saved him. An orphanage owner where children with eyes like Theo’s live.

Madam Liz placed a tray of food on the nightstand and sat himself on the edge of the bed. "Eat before you play with them," said Madam Liz.

Theo still flinched.

“They are your new friends, are waiting for you until you are completely ready Theo.”

“I have to go,” Theo replied coldly.

Madam Liz furrowed her brows. “Didn't you promise Jared that you would stay here?”

“I never said I would stay here.”

“But you've made friends.”

“That doesn't mean I'm going to stay here.”

Madam Liz sighed. Theo was already prepared for the attack that Madam Liz might make on him. All grown-ups hate kids who fight them, don't they? But a surprising thing happened. Madam Liz instead smiled and patted the spot beside her.

“Come and sit here.”

Theo didn't move an inch from his place. He wondered what kind of things might happen to him. What kind of punishment will Madam Liz give? But deep down, Theo felt incredible comfort from the look in Madam’s eyes. As if she could be the home Theo always dreamed of.

He slowly began to step his feet towards Martion and then sat down next to her.

“I have something to tell you," said Madam Liz. “Do you realize that most of the children in this place are as unique as you?”

“Their eyes?" Theodore replied in a half-whisper.

“Right. They have yellow eyes that are different from humans in general. In ancient times when the first disaster struck this country, most of humanity died because they could not survive. While others who are stronger turn into super-powered creatures.”

Madam Liz turned to Theo who seemed interested in her story. She continued.

“They are referred as Tyr Gods effect to their incredible strength. However, they are not normal and are feared by others because of their strength. Therefore, in the present day, people who have the Odd Eye become the main target of torture of people.” Madam LIz gave me a sympathetic look. “Isn't that also the case with you, Theo?" she asked, pointing to the scar on Theo’s neck.

Immediately Theo reflexively retreated and covered his neck with his hands. His Odd Eye glowed brightly when he was alert.

Instead of being frightened, Martin smiled warmly before taking something out of his pocket. A red chocker necklace.

"You can use this alone to cover your wounds," said Madam Liz. “I know that you hate the wound as much as you hate the color of your eyes. But remember, everything you hate is still a part of you. So from now on try to make peace with all that.”

Theo received the choker necklace and looked at it carefully. Madam’s words made him feel warm in his chest.

“Whoa, nice necklace dude!" Jared said just as he saw Theo coming out of the door.

Meanwhile, Theo was still hesitant to give a response and just lowered his head. He still didn't know how real they all were. Even though Madam Liz had said that all the boys in the orphanage had the same fate, Theo still didn't want to hope too much. He is very afraid of being hated.

“Hey, can you play ball?” Jared suddenly grabbed Theo. Made him flinch in surprise.

“I... I don't know how to..." Theo replied softly.

Jared looked at him for a while causing an awkward feeling from Theo. Then Jared ruffled Theo’s hair. “Don't feel so inferior, let me teach you how!”

"You should not believe Jared!” chirps one of the boys.

“Right, he can't even take the ball from the opponent!” The other boy agreed.

“You're going to be just as bad as him!”

“Hey! You're all so outrageous!” Jared snorted bitterly. “That's all I did to keep up with you! If I'm serious about playing, you're no match for me!”
