008

Jared goes into Theo's room after knocking him first. Jared no longer wears a uniform but a black long-sleeved T-shirt with a number 07 on his back. He held a thick book in his hand.

“Why haven't you changed your clothes?" Jared asked seeing Theo still in uniform this morning. “Change into the clothes in that closet.”

Somewhat dazed, Theo opens the closet and finds some new clothes hanging there. His face glowed cheerfully. Then he chooses an outfit that catches his eye. A jacket with the image of an owl.

"Well, now we will talk about the rules in this school as well as in this dormitory.”

There are many written rules, and Jared explains them carefully.

“You shouldn’t be here, Jared.”

Jared nodded his head. “I'm here to explain this rule to you, I don't think this is a problem.” Jared closed the book. “I can't lend you this book because every student has to have it, I guess you still don't have it?”

"I think so,” replied Theo. “I also don't have a lot of books and other school supplies.”

“Take it easy, tomorrow you will have everything.”

“How's your wound? Let me see!” Theo approached Jared and looked closely at Jared's body, but he didn't see the slightest sign of violence on the blonde boy.

“My body didn't hurt,” Jared said.

“But you were in pain.”

“It's not the wounds that attack your body but your mind.”

“What do you mean?”

Jared half whispered. "Professor Abraham tried to get into my subconscious so that I could not grab my consciousness and tried to take over my body, the point is so I hope you will never feel it.” Jared stood up. “We'd better get ready for dinner! I thought you were starving because your stomach had been ringing throughout our conversation.”

“Yeah, I was starving.”

The old clock chimed very loudly. Marking the hour dinner is ready. Theo and Jared walk together went down the stairs, down the dimly lit passages because the sun had already set. There are only torches attached to the walls of the hallway as a light. Downstairs they found more students. When he was in the room, Theo felt alone because he did not hear signs of someone else's existence. Except Jared, of course. He walked into a very spacious cafeteria and was met by other students. As usual, Theo stood in line for his food. Dinner this time is different from lunch. There are grilled ribs, grilled chicken, and mashed potatoes. Everything is in incredible portions so Theo doesn't have to worry about shortages. He took a lot for himself.

While eating, Theo had heard whispers about him from some students. Every time he looked up, the boys averted their eyes as if they didn't want to be caught talking about Theo.

"Leave them alone," Jared said. “They don't talk about your badness, they just admire you.”

"Admire me?”

“Because you are the ‘Chosen One’?”

Theo blinked his eyes. “All the students here are the chosen ones, right?”

Jared shook his head. “We do have privileges, but only you get special attention from the Master. All because of the color of your eyes. You are red-eyed while we are yellow. You can control people's minds even when you're very young.”

Theo is confused. He grappled with a series of Jared remarks. All of that was too much for his meager brain to digest. Jared seemed to realize that and began to explain.

“The day you arrived here, the news about you exploded. They say you hurt people by controlling their minds when you were very young. That fact is reinforced because you have bright red eyes it's rare for a young Odd Eye Circle to have eyes as mature as yours. Those eyes only changed when an Odd Eye Circle possessed great power. And that's what we're all here for. We were trained until we could have a different color to our current eye color. That's why this school was built. So that we the odd Eye Circle can control our power.”

“But why is that? I don't want this power... This is a cursed power!”

"Hey," Jared calmed Theo. “We don't all want this power, but it's there for a reason. Fate chooses us. Therefore, we must use this power to the best of our ability. We have to prove to the people out there that we also deserve to live an equal life. We're not monsters, you understand Theo?”

“But, a great power can control our minds. We're going to be monsters.”

Jared shook his head. “No way, Master will intervene if it happens to us.”

"Master?”

"Master Lazarus. He was the one who built this school and gathered all the Odd Eye Circle kids. He is the kindest man who has the noble goal of making the world equal.”

“I think Madam Liz built this place.”

“Madam Liz is arguably his assistant.”

"And, I see everyone in this building is the owner of Odd Eye like Professor Abraham," Theo guessed.

"That's right," Jared replied. “To minimize the bad things, the staff here are also an Odd Eye Circle. Because only Odd Eye Circle could not control the thoughts of his fellow men.”

Theo nodded in understanding. Something caught his attention. “Can we also control things?”

"You mean Telekinesis? Seriously, no!”

“I'm just curious.”

Jared asked back. "Before you put the necklace on," he said. “I saw a wound on your neck, what was it?”

“This... It's nothing.”

“Are you sure? Because it looks like it was an attack.”
