The medics treated Theodore’s wounds. Sew up the skin torn from the bite of a crocodile. Apply the cream to Theo’s red palms. Sewed up a wide wound on his leg, bitten by the strongest crocodile. Theo felt more pain than he had ever felt before. Theo screamed in pain several times as the nurses touched his wounds until other students who were in the same room with him looked at him.

“Your wounds are severe for a young boy like you,” said one of the nurses. “You must be powerful.”

“I was just lucky,” Theodore said.

“You are too naive, son. You have a rare eye, which is one of the signs that you have extraordinary strength.”

Theodore had heard so much about his eyes and strength that he only smiled in response. The nurse said something unusual.

“I haven’t seen red eyes like you in a long time. You must be a good sign for The Odd Eye Circle.”

“You can’t say anything weird!” another nurse hit the shoulder of the previous nurse. “You’d better rest, Theodore, so your wounds heal quickly.”
