Chapter seven

"Are you Oliver Cage? The man who applied for the position of a janitor here at Lionheart Group?" Stuart, the head of the staff at Lionheart, asked Oliver as he stood before the short man in his office.

"Yes sir." Oliver calmly responded. His head was bowed, but he could see the sides of the office. It was modest, well-ventilated with catchy yellow blinds.

Stuart thought for a moment while gazing at Oliver. He was having mixed emotions about the poor man standing before him. Oliver was still dressed in disguise, and he looked even poorer than ever.

"I do not think that you can work here, Oliver. You are far below what we employ here at Lionheart. You do know where you are, don't you?" Stuart asked. Oliver sighed. So, he was going to play that game, wasn't he?

"Sir, please. I need this job. I cannot afford to be unemployed. If you would give me a chance, I promise to clean as best as I can." Oliver muttered.

Stuart sighed as he ran his hands through some paperwork. He turned to Oliver again, not sure of what to do.

"Look, I wanna help you. But these days, employment isn't even in my jurisdiction anymore. The acting CEO has taken over the screening process and he only employs people of a certain class. Unfortunately, you don't fit in that class." Stuart told him.

"Acting CEO? Do you mean Gerald Blackburn? Please, let me see him. I can beg him to employ me. I just need to see him." Oliver begged as politely as he could. He could tell that Stuart wanted to help.

'I will reward him later.'  Oliver thought.

"Okay. Fine. You are in luck. Gerald Blackburn has another important meeting today. When he comes out, you can meet him. You can wait at the reception." Stuart said to Oliver who quickly nodded. He turned, walked out of the office, and headed straight for the reception.

As soon as he took his seat, he observed Lionheart Group in full view. The building was awesome! It was a ten-story building with intricate design.

Most of the walls were painted white, and the glasses were scraped so clean that not a single stain could be seen.

Oliver was proud of what he was seeing. He smiled as he looked around. Everything there belonged to him, from the coziest sofa to the tiniest pen.

It was all his.

"Boss. Did you get the job?" Marv asked Oliver over the earpiece in his ear. It was well hidden that no one noticed what he was wearing.

"Not yet. I have to meet with Gerald. Apparently, he oversees the employment process himself now." Oliver responded. He heard Marv sigh on the other side of the phone.

"Is this really necessary boss? You are downgrading yourself. It pains me. You should fling them out of that place immediately!" Marv blurted out in anger. Oliver smiled.

"Do not worry Marv. I know what I'm doing. Didn't you see their faces yesterday? I can't let them know who I am just yet. I have to punish them more." Oliver told Marv. He could hear cars honking in the background. He knew Marv was just outside Lionheart Group.

"What about the task I gave to you yesterday? Did you find out everywhere and everyone Gerald met with?" Oliver asked.

"Yes, boss. He visited Essence in the evening with his secretary."

"His secretary?" Oliver gasped in surprise.

Essence was a hotel but for rich people who could afford it. They were well-known to keep their clients' information a secret. Nothing moral ever happens at Essence.

So Gerald was cheating on Elina after all.

"Did you get anything?" Oliver asked Marv.

"Yes, boss. I managed to get inside and plant cameras in the room Gerald was lodged in. I did a tape."

Oliver was intrigued. Marv was truly efficient. The shadows were top-notch at doing their jobs.

"Send it to me," Oliver said to Marv.

A ping soon followed and Oliver checked his phone to see the dirty video. He smirked as an idea came to him.

It didn't take long before Gerald walked out of the lift with some of his business partners. They laughed as they approached the entrance of the building.

Oliver wore his wretched face again and stood up to approach Gerald. As soon as Gerald was done attending to the business partners, he saw Oliver standing there.

Gerald felt a wave of anger come upon him. What was the tramp doing there? He walked towards Oliver who kept his eyes glued to the ground.

"What the fuck are you doing here? Get out immediately!" Gerald barked at him.

"Sir, please I need to speak with you. I was told you're the one who can help me." Oliver said to him.

"Help? And why would I do that? Aren't you under Isaiah Lionheart's employment?"  Gerald arched a brow.

"It's a misunderstanding sir. I just had the chance to drive their car home for just some minutes. They said I could apply to work as a janitor here. I really need this job, sir. I beg of you."

"Hmm…"

Gerald thought. Perhaps Elina was right. Oliver was still the same dirt he knew. He was not a threat.

"Fine. I'll give you the job. But you have to work twice as hard as everyone else, and if you ever complain, you will be fired." Gerald stated.

"Get out of my sight this instant." He added, and Oliver quickly walked away.

Gerald scoffed while he watched Oliver Cage leave. He could not believe that he had thought of the young man as a threat.

Gerald quickly returned to his office and settled down to do some paperwork. As he was going through the stuff, he then saw a notification pop up on his laptop.

A message from an unknown sender. Gerald's curiosity made him open the message, and he saw the tape. But when he played it, he jumped up from his seat.

His heart was racing as he quickly paused the video. He started to sweat profusely. He looked closer and saw a caption on the text.

"I'm watching you."

He read the caption out. His breathing got deeper. He could barely think.

What the hell was going on?
