Valeria glared at Alexander’s back, then leaned close to Eleanor and said softly: “Don’t feel sorry for him. The sooner you cut ties with this deadbeat, the better.”

“No way, we’re not breaking up.” Eleanor replied firmly.

“What am I supposed to say to you? You’re standing before a tremendous opportunity, yet you’re being foolish.” Valeria said, frustrated and disappointed.

“When Phineas was here, you said the same thing, urging me to divorce Alexander to be with him. Now Cisco shows up, and you’re saying the same thing—divorce Alexander to be with Cisco. What do you really think of me, Mother?” Eleanor said angrily, a hint of resentment in her voice.

Valeria blushed, clearly flustered: “It’s normal for people to seek better prospects. Who hasn’t done a bit of ‘finding a steed after losing a donkey’ before?”

Eleanor turned away, her face cold, and took a seat far from Cisco.
