Chapter 8

At exactly 8:30 pm, Rebecca was at home worried about Georgina's whereabouts. She hadn't returned from work, and she wasn't answering her phone. It was unusual, and she began to wonder if something had gone wrong.

She tried Maron's phone several times, but he wasn't answering either. She began to panic. She quickly dressed herself to report a missing person to the police.

As she came to the sitting room, the entrance door flung open, and Georgina staggered into the house.

Her face paled, and her body seemed to curl in on itself, a physical manifestation of the emotional pain she was going through.

“Hi, Mom,” she greeted, her voice barely above a whisper. Her voice cracked as she spoke, her words choked with sadness and her eyes misted over with unshed tears.

She smelled of alcohol, and Rebecca couldn't help but wonder what had gone wrong.

“Oh, my sweet Lord!" Rebecca mumbled.
