Chapter 7

Early on a Monday morning, the streets of Burutan were filled with people going about their daily lives like nothing else mattered.

Georgina had just arrived at the company when she received a call from Maron, informing her of the replacement of the company's Chairman.

***

A few days ago, Maron had received a call confirming the chairman's resignation.

The situation behind the sudden change was not revealed, but he was informed that there would be a new chairman in the next board meeting.

Finally, the day of the board meeting came, and Maron decided to inform Georgina of the changes in the company.

Georgina walked briskly towards her office, her hips swinging from left to right at each step. It was a big day at the company, and she couldn't wait to impress the new chairman.

No matter what happens, she must keep her position as the manager of the company. Her wedding with Maron was fast approaching, and everything had been going smoothly for them.

As she entered her office, she settled down and let out a deep sigh.

A distant noise from the large hall caught her attention. She looked through the transparent glass and saw the employees gathered at the entrance.

Immediately, her door flung open, and Agatha rushed into the office.

“Babes, can you see who just arrived? It must be the new chairman. You were right. Oh my gosh! You need to see the convoy that brought him here.”

“I'm drooling already,” she continued until Georgina shushed her by placing her finger on her lips.

“Shut it, Agatha. This is not time for some gossip. Let's welcome the chairman, shall we?" She asked, and Agatha nodded eagerly.

Georgina sighed nervously and swallowed hard. From her expression, one could tell she was anxious and nervous about the whole situation.

She led the way, and Agatha followed behind as they went downstairs to welcome the chairman. The employees were gathered at the entrance, admiring the fleet of cars when Georgina arrived.

“What's the matter?" She queried, and they all scampered to their seats to avoid falling victim to her rage.

Georgina was known to be very strict and merciless with her leadership.

A lot of staff in the company addressed her as “The walking devil.”

After the employees had settled down, she rearranged herself and tucked her hair behind her ears. With Agatha by her side, she walked down to the convoy with a beautiful smile on her lips.

Her smile exposed her perfect set of sparkling white teeth. She was indeed an epitome of beauty.

A car door opened, and a hefty bouncer alighted from the car. He was wearing an expensive suit with his dark shades on.

He walked towards a Mercedes Maybach in the middle of the cars and pulled the door open. Georgina watched in admiration as an elderly man alighted from the car.

He appeared rich and influential, and she couldn't help but rush towards him.

“Good morning sir," she greeted, prostrating respectfully with a grin on her face.

“I've heard a lot about your coming sir. I want you to know that I'm excited by your mere presence.”

“Can I show you around sir?” She asked, and the man nodded slowly wearing a low smile.

As she turned around to lead him away, the man raised his finger. "If you won't mind, let me usher the new chairman to the company before we leave,” he said to her, and she furrowed her brow confusedly.

"I don't understand sir, aren't you the new chairman?” She asked politely, and the man shook his head in disapproval.

"I'm merely a messenger of the new chairman. I have to ensure that he gets whatever he desires,” he said and Georgina scoffed.

"Well, we're still going on sightseeing you and I aren't we?” He asked and she sighed and rolled her eyes dismissively.

“Of course, we're not. You're nothing but a messenger, old man. If I were you, I would focus on elevating my career. Stop admiring women you can't keep. Please bring forth the chairman, I can't wait to show him around.”

The man raised his brow in hurt and displeasure, but he didn't utter another word.

He walked over to the Lamborghini AVENTADOR SVJ and knocked on the window glass. Georgina smiled heartily, waiting for the chairman, and suddenly, a young man alighted from the car.

He was wearing a very expensive suit and a dark shade. His lips were so red and sexy.

Georgina gaped in disbelief. The man appeared familiar, but with his dark shades on, she couldn't identify him properly.

Agatha felt paralyzed by the handsome figure standing before her. She gasped softly, lost in her admiration, and she couldn't get her eyes off him.

Georgina took a few steps further. The excitement in her face had disappeared all of a sudden.

“Good morning, sir," she greeted, and the man nodded quietly.

“Uhmm, sir, can I show you around? The board meeting will begin in less than thirty minutes from now.”

The young man nodded in approval again, and she led him away with 3 hefty bouncers following behind.

During the entire walk, the young man maintained a straight-up silence and let Georgina do the talking.

With his strange behavior, she knew something was off about him. His silence couldn't let her confirm her suspicion.

After walking around for over twenty minutes, they returned to the round table to commence the meeting.

“Good day everyone,” Georgina greeted as she addressed the gathering.

"Before we get along with the main reason for our gathering today, it's a must that we announce the arrival of our new chairman.”

"I will step back now and let him take on the audience,” she announced happily, and everybody put up a round of applause with their gaze flying around as they waited to see the new chairman.

Immediately, Maron rushed into the meeting hall. He had arrived just in time. He took his seat next to Georgina, and the young man who had arrived at the company earlier stood up.

“Good day ladies and gentlemen. There's not much to say before we dive into our main reason for the meeting," he began.

“However, it's better that I introduce myself for clarity's sake.”

At this point, Georgina had adjusted her seat severally. She was beginning to feel discomfort because she recognized the voice too well. But how can that be? She imagined.

She kept thinking of her imagination being real until his final introduction interrupted her thoughts.

"My name is Jake Osborne, son of Robinson Osborne, the previous company chairman.”

"Today, I've come to continue from where my father stopped, and I believe that together, we shall take this company to a greater height."

Immediately, he took off his glasses, and his eyes fell on Georgina.

She gasped in shock, and her legs began to tremble. Her eyes widened in disbelief as fear crept into her.

She fidgeted with her hands, avoiding eye contact. A display of her guilt and unease buried deep within her. She couldn't believe what just happened.

The hall went silent as Jake stared at Georgina with a grin on his face.

He shifted his gaze to Maron who had been quiet the whole time. Maron swallowed hard, his jaws dropped in disbelief, and he clenched his fist furiously.

“This is impossible!" He spoke aggressively and stood up from his seat.

“I know this man. He must be an impostor. There's no way he is the new chairman, let alone being the son of renowned Robinson Osborne."

“Come on, tell me y'all don't believe him. Where are the securities? Can someone throw this impostor out of here already?” He yelled, but there was silence in the room.

Jake let out a weird laugh, and his chin jolted out defiantly. He glared at Maron, and Maron began to shiver on his feet.

A part of him had already accepted that Jake was who he claimed to be, but how could he accept defeat?

“You don't need to doubt my identity, Maron. My father will call you right now. When you answer the call, you can lay your complaints about an impersonator standing in the company right now.”

Immediately, Maron's phone rang, and just as Jake said, it was a direct call from Robinson Osborne himself.

Maron widened his eyes, surprised about the whole situation. Fear spread across his features, and he began to shiver.

Jake chuckled and cast a terrifying glare that sent chills down his spine.

“You can answer the call, Maron, or seat your ass down, and don't interrupt me again!" He roared angrily. Maron darted his eyes around and saw that all eyes were on him.

He quietly put down the phone and dropped back to his seat in surrender.

“Good," Jake muttered. “Now, shall we begin?" He inquired with a terrifying smirk on his face.
