Chapter 23

“What time is it?”

Angela's eyes snapped open to stare at Damien. They'd had him patched up again and made her feed him a pungent smelling tea to aid him recovery.

“Sometime in the morning,” she said. “How are you feeling?”

Damien checked his hand. The bandage had been changed and surprisingly, there was no pain whatsoever. Not in his hand or any part of his body. “Great.”

Angela had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes. “Like you can run a marathon?”

“I mean it,” he insisted. “I actually feel good.” He sprang to his feet, kicking and punching the air before turning to Angela who had a look of horrified worry on her face.

“Damien, you almost bled out.”

“I didn't,” he said with an edge in his voice.

As worried as she was, he was still her boss, not her son. She decided to change the subject.

“You've gotten really popular since the ball. Women are fawning all over you, they're calling you the new Mr. Delaney.”
