A WEAPON

Kehlani Higgins wiped Aaron's face with a white towel. She'd bathed the kid got him in some nice pj's.

"I can't imagine what you went through. What would you like to eat?"she asked.

"Anything is fine"

"Then, why don't you watch some TV while I prepare something for you"

"Thank you". He replied before running off. As Kehlani was about to make her way to the kitchen, the front door opened and her grand daughter, Brittany walked in.

"You're home?. I thought you'd be working out late tonight" Kehlani asked greeting her daughter with a smile.

Brittany feigned hurt as she hugged her Grandma from behind. "I'm hurt. You didn't miss me, Grandma".

Brittany's eyes moved to the TV where she saw a young boy laying on the couch and fixated at the screen.

"Grandma tell me, did I work for 5years that you already have a 5 years old kid?" She asked.

Kehlani chuckled. "I'm taking him in. He seemed terrified when I found him"

"What about his parents?"

"I'll get that sorted out tomorrow at the child services"

"Whatever you say, grandma"

"Is Doug coming home? Let me know the portion of food to make"

"You know how Doug is. He loves his work but loves his grandma's cooking better"

"I'm glad he's the exact opposite of you". Kehlani teased.

"Grandma! You're really hurting me!". Brittany whined.

"Grandma, I'm home!" Doug announced making his presence known.

Kehlani moved to hug him. "Now that's my precious grandson. Let me look at you. You've lost some weight"

"That's why I'm here. So that you can help me gain it all back"

"Then you came to the right place". They both dissolved in laughter as Doug moved to the sitting room, where Brittany was.

He looked at the kid and back at Brittany. "Don't tell me you and Griffin have a child together"

"Are you insane?" She shrieked. "Never!. Grandma is planning on taking him in"

Doug nodded his head "Ah, I see. If you ever see Griffin though, do well to comfort him. His job is becoming harder these days. Right that reminds me, always carry around your pepper spray. Lots of scary things have been happening in this town lately"

"I know. I live here"

"You can never be too careful". Doug turned to face Aaron. "Kid, hello?"

"Hello"

"What's your name?"

"Aaron"

"Nice to meet you Aaron. My name is Doug"

"Dog?".He asked earning a fit of laughter from Brittany.

"Not dog. There's a 'u' to it. I don't know why mother gave me this name". Doug complained.

"Oh, it's now you complain? You said you never wanted to change the name because it sounded cool" Brittany teased.

"I was young and childish then"

"Can one change their name that easily?" Aaron asked Doug out of curiosity.

"Of course. But there's no reason for you to. Aaron is a nice name"

"Kid, do you read the bible?" Brittany asked

Aaron nodded his head. "Does children book count?"

"Well that's a good start. Do you know what Aaron in the bible is known for?"

Aaron shook his head. "No"

"Aaron with his brother Moses help the Israelites get out of Egypt. Don't you think that's a great thing?"

"I guess so"

Brittany patted Aaron's head. "So there's no need for you to change your name because you are going to be just as great"

"But if I don't change it, he'll find me"

"Who will?" Doug asked.

"That man who goes around killing people. He even harmed Maria's mother last night".

Doug and Brittany shared a look at eachother.

"Are you sure of this?" Brittany asked.

"Yes. I even saw his face. I'm scared that he'll come for me too"

Brittany wrapped Aaron in a bear hug. "We won't let anything happen to you, believe us". Just them Kehlani had called the children to eat and after their meal, she'd tucked Aaron in bed.

The little boy had fallen asleep rather quickly.

Doug and Brittany stood by his door as they watched him. "If what that kid said is true, do you know what that means?"

Doug pointed at Aaron "That kid is the only weapon that can catch this mysterious killer"

"I know. We have to protect him by all means" Brittany voiced "Because he could be in serious danger"

Griffin slammed Jayne's journal shut. He'd read it for the umpteenth time but yet he was getting nothing new out of it.

Should he go back to her house to look for more clues?

That kid though, finding that kid should be their main priority.

They use him as bait to make Amanda show herself. It's as easy as that.

Then, case closed and problem solved.

"My head aches". Griffin groaned as he stood up from the dining and moved to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

From the window, he could see that pastor Nicholas had just finished a night sermon with his congregations.

He went out and approached him. "Late night?"

"We have to spend every minute praising the Lord".

"As if" Griffin muttered under his breath.

"You seem to be pulling some late night yourself, detective. The eye bags give it away"

"We're just trying to do the best we can with a murderer on the loose"

"Dear heavens, you still haven't found the person yet?"

"I'm afraid so, so you best not keep your followers up too late"

"I'll keep that in mind"

"Then, I'll see you tomorrow"

"The lord be with you, my son". My son. Griffin thought. Was that a part of his father calling out to him?

He shook his head as he headed inside and threw himself upon the bed.

Maria, Jayne, Amanda, Aaron,John all fit into one case but one thing still stood out.

That girl called Annette. Why had a dead girl, a girl he'd never seen before appear to him in his dreams!

Griffin shuddered in fear as he used the bedsheets to cover his body "I should look for a new job. This job is giving me nightmares" he said before drifting off to sleep.
