Chapter 10: Selling My Goods(Why Are These People Poor!)

A few minutes through the forest and the group sees a clearing ahead along with the faint sound of voices and movement.

In the clearing the grass has been cut and some trees and branches have been set around as a rough barrier. People are drinking from up the stream and washing clothes or themselves down the stream. There are a few campfires getting started as it’s approaching dinner and It seems some people have been hunting as well.

Abby: “Welcome to our home! It’s not much but at least we have some shelter from the weather and monsters.”

Oko: “It looks nice! I’ll probably hang around for a few minutes and try to sell some stuff but then I gotta go to the next floor.”

Abby: “Oh right you left before we found out about the door! If you walk up and put your hand to the door there is another menu that pops up, there is a store and a couple upgrades you can get but it’s all very expensive.”

‘Huh guess I found out what the money was for, good thing I didn’t leave it behind.’

Oko: “What kind of things can you get?”

Abby: “Well there are food and potions and floor upgrades, it’ll probably be easier if you just look for yourself. A bunch of us chipped in to buy the tower guide since it’s cheap and can be shared. It said…”

Basically this is what it boiled down to:

Monsters respawn at different rates with the lowest at 1 hour and floor bosses respawning at 32 hours. Legendary bosses respawning much slower.

After the 5th floor you will unlock a subfloor where you may go after completing floors, there will be room to store and trade with people. There are also ‘locals’ that live in the tower but have no system or access to the door.

More batches of contestants will be joining in due time.

Some floors are instances, meaning you can only enter as groups, the party size depends on the floor.

It takes 24 hours to respawn after dying, the penalty for dying is loss of skill proficiency. If you have no lives left, you die for real.

Passing a floor gives 2 - 5 ap based on performance.

Tomes can be dropped by enemies which contain skills and skill upgrades.

Oko:”Hmm it’s pretty basic but it is a lot, I wonder what that subfloor looks like.”

‘Seems the Goblin chief will be respawning soon too.’

Abby: “Ya me too, you can check the door and I’ll see if I can find some rangers. What are you selling anyway? We haven’t been able to get much from the monsters.”

Oko: “Well bosses seem to drop a lot more frequently, I have an enchanted arrow but idk what it does yet.”

Arcus: “An enchanted arrow!? I’ve never heard of something being enchanted yet, are you sure it’s not just some symbols on a goblin arrow?”

Oko: “Pretty sure, see ya in a bit!”

When Oko got to the door he stuck his hand against the door and felt a slight warmth and pressure.

‘Hmmm interesting, with the first purchase discount I can get double yield for a month. I haven’t been paying to much attention to the money drops but I’m pretty sure it’s been dropping around max for first kills. If that upgrade works on my guaranteed max drop then that’s insane value!’

‘Guess I’ll grab it!’

Poko first decided to exchange his copper for bronze. He put 100 copper in his hands (luckily the copper is small) and chose to exchange. He could feel the coins disappear with one slightly bigger coin left in his hand.

Poko then put 5 bronze in his hands and chose the upgrade.

[Tower upgrade purchased: Monster Drop Yield]

When he opened his hand, the coins were gone.

‘Alright next let’s sell the arrow, I wonder if I can sell the tome but Idk the drop rates for tomes.’

When Poko walked back he saw Abby with 2 guys, 2 girls, and 1 Arcus.

‘Seems he’s curious after all.’

Oko: “Hi I take it you guys are interested in my arrow? Don’t worry the shaft is straight and the tip sturdy, it shouldn’t have any performance issues!”

Unknown man: “Hahaha yes please! Names Quincy, I’ll have to play with it a bit before I judge how good it is.” Quincy says as he gives a flirty wink.

Oko gives a smile and takes out the arrow that has been annoyingly sticking out of his pack all this time.

‘I’m Surprised it didn’t break, probably because it’s enchanted I guess.’

Oko: “This is the only arrow I got for you, my other is reserved for the ladies.”

Poko realizes they all have bows and quivers on their backs.

Oko: “I actually don’t know the enchantment on it, I’ve tried stabbing and throwing it but I don’t have a bow and nothing happened.”

Arcus: “How do you know it’s even enchanted? Sure it looks a bit different but that doesn’t mean it’s enchanted.”

Oko: “Simple, someone can shoot it and if it doesn’t seem to do anything or nobody wants it then I’ll just keep it. Who wants to try it?”

Quincy: “I will! I’ll shoot a normal arrow first in case the difference isn’t obvious, but what if your arrow breaks? It’s not uncommon for that to happen even when we are hitting softwood, it’s still wood after all.”

Oko: “If it breaks then it’s worthless anyways.”

Quincy first shoots the normal arrow which hits the target dead on, the arrow barely enters the wood and snaps at the tip.

“Damn, unlucky.”

Then Quincy fires the enchanted arrow.

SWOOOSH

The arrow picks up speed with a gust of wind as it leaves the bow. It hits the wood right next to where the other arrow hit, sinking in a few inches through the wood and slightly quivering.

‘That was better than I thought!’

Quincy: “Damn that felt nice leaving the bow! I’ll give you 28 copper for it!”

The other rangers look with disappointment when they hear Quincy’s offer.

‘Seems he is the richest? That’s not a lot at all!! Damn the drop rates must be much worse than I thought!’

Just as Poko is about to reluctantly accept, arcus finally speaks up.

Arcus: “I’ll give you my health potion.”

Poko: “Oh the doubter wants in? Well I can’t deny a potion after I used mine, how bout you Quincy? If you can match him I’ll sell it to you.”

This clearly pisses Arcus off as he stares at Quincy.

Quincy: “Ahh sorry, the health potion is to valuable to me, maybe next time.”

Poko: “Alright.”

As the others leave Poko catches up with Quincy.

Oko: “Hey actually I got something else you might be interested in, but I want the potion and your coins.”

Quincy: “Oh? The only thing I’ll consider for that is a tome but those things seem pretty rare, there have been about 5 item drops that I’ve heard of so far but most were crappy daggers.”

Oko: “It’s a tome for Piercing Arrow.”

Quincy: “… wow your just getting all the drops! The skill doesn’t sound super rare though and the potion is really valuable, at this stage it’s probably worth more than a bronze. I can get skills through clearing the floors even if they are rare.”

Poko: “Yes but one extra skill can go a long way, and you can level up your skills so getting them early is important.”

Quincy: “You can level up skills!? That makes a lot of sense actually, alright mister salesman you’ve convinced me! I’m going totally broke for this…”

Poko takes off his pack and puts the tome towards the top, after receiving payment he holds the bag up.

Oko: “Just reach in and learn it so nobody sees.”

Quincy: “Thanks!”

Suddenly there is a commotion at the entrance to the camp, an injured person comes running through. She is bleeding from her arm that hangs limp to her side.
