A breath of wind suddenly rustled his hair.
Edward immediately realized something was approaching him from behind at a fantastic speed. He had to turn around to discover what it was. To his surprise, he saw a bullet would soon hit him in the chest. And meanwhile, a familiar face also entered his sight. It belonged to none other than that middle - aged woman he had met in that small drugstore.“Damn it!” Edward whispered, realizing he had been lured here on purpose.
There was no time for him to dodge the bullet. It looked like he would soon be a dead man. There was a ghost of a smile on the face of the middle - aged woman since Edward stood where he was, motionless. She was sure her bullet had already gone into his chest.“Well done, Peggy!” the woman behind Edward laughed. “I have to thank you. You’ve saved me a lot of trouble. Otherwise, this bad boy is surely going to cop a feel of me. Now eye for eye!”
With that, she quickly walked close to Edward and suddenly pulled the dagger out of her hand and tried to thrust it into Edward’s back. However, Edward suddenly moved with lightning speed and thrust his dagger into the woman’s other hand before she knew it. “Ouch!” she cried in great agony. And the dagger in her hand fell to the ground instantly. Edward was now gripping her throat from behind. All these happened so fast that the middle - aged woman named Peggy even forgot to pull the trigger of the revolver in her hand. In fact, she had lost the best chance to kill Edward now since he could shield himself with the body of that woman.“I see you’ve been shot. The bullet just went into your chest!” exclaimed Peggy, puzzled.
“You’ve obviously underestimated me!” sneered Edward, showing something between his two fingers—something shimmering in the light.
It was none other than the bullet.“No! I must be dreaming! You’re not human, are you? How could you be able to catch a flying bullet bare - handed?”
Peggy was shocked, her eyes widening in disbelief.“That’s why I said you underestimated me,” sneered Edward.
“Let go of my friend Penny first, or I’ll kill you now!” said Peggy, staring at Edward without a blink.
“Stop bluffing, bitch!” Edward shot back, gripping Penny’s throat tighter. “Try me! I promise your friend will die before I do. You’re the one who’s at my beck and call, not me. Now tell me who you’re working for!”
“No way!” seethed the middle - aged woman. “If you dare to hurt her, I promise I’ll blow your head off with my gun!”
“Looks like she’s more than just your friend, isn’t she?”
Edward let out a cold harrumph, suddenly giving Penny a spank on her bottom.“What are you doing? Stop that!” fumed Peggy with indignation, holding the revolver tighter, ready to fire whenever Edward was distracted.
Yet, Edward slapped her shapely buttocks hard again.“Wow, nice buttocks! I love them!” Edward provoked with a sneer.
Then Edward pretended to steal a glance at them. Just at that moment, Peggy thought it was the perfect time to shoot him. Without further hesitation, she pulled the trigger. Edward nimbly hid himself behind Penny and hurled the bullet back at the middle - aged woman. In a split second, the bullet from Peggy’s revolver went straight into Penny’s chest while the one thrown back by Edward also hit Peggy in her bosom. Almost at the same time, both women fell to the ground, blood flowing from the corners of their mouths. The two women must be lovers. They slowly crawled toward each other with their hands stretching forward.
“Sorry, Peggy! I should have listened to you. I shouldn’t have taken this job. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have brought about this fatal disaster.”
“No, it’s not your fault, Penny! If anyone is to blame, it’s our fate. This is the destiny of us assassins. Maybe it’s not bad for us. It’s all over anyway!”
Finally, they crawled close enough to each other and their hands connected.“Hey, tell me who’s behind all this, please! I’ll bury you two together if you spill the beans!” Edward crouched beside them and whispered.
They smiled at Edward. It looked like they would say something, but all of a sudden, their hands went limp. They were gone forever.“Darn it!” Edward shook his head. “It was so close. Anyway, I can see love between you. I have to admit I was even touched for a moment. Okay, you two can be together forever!”
Edward looked around and decided to bury the tiger and the women under a big oak tree.About an hour later, as Edward started moving the bodies into the deep hole he had just dug, something round dropped to the ground from Penny’s pocket, a silver badge with an ‘A’ on it.
Edward was sure it must belong to a clandestine organization. If he could find out the meaning of ‘A’ on the badge or what organization was using this kind of badge, perhaps he would not be far from the truth.‘All right. Now I’ve got two clues. As long as I finish the job here, I’ll continue to investigate,’ thought Edward.
About an hour later, Edward got the job done.
After that, he immediately took out his phone and made a phone call. The phone rang a few times before it was answered.“Hello, is that Nicholas?” asked Edward. “This is Edward!”
“Oh, sir, I’m really thrilled to receive your call. I’ve been looking forward to seeing you again at my place.” Nicholas said, his voice brimming with uncontrollable excitement.
“I’ll be coming to you soon!”
“Oh really? That’s wonderful. I thought you’d come in a few more days.”
“Don’t you welcome me to come? Then I’ll quit!”
There was a cold edge in his voice.“No, no…sir! You know that’s not what I mean. You’re always welcome to my place. And you’re the most distinguished guest because you’re my hero and savior.”
Nicholas suddenly got nervous, even his voice a little bit gruff.“All right, I’m just kidding. Now I need you to do something for me!” Edward continued.
“It’s my pleasure. I promise I’ll go all out!”
“I’ve got a telephone number here. I’ll text it to you later. I hope you can help me find out who it belongs to.”
“No sweat, sir.”
“I told you to call me Edward.”
“Yes, Ed…Edward. Anything else I can do to help?”“Get a clean pan at your place.”
“Pan?” Nicholas asked, perplexed.“Yeah, I’ll bring you a surprise. I need the pan to make the surprise for you.”

The military chopper tore through the sky above the rainforest, its thunderous blades biting into the dense canopy."You sure this is the place, boss?" Ray asked, his brow furrowed and face grave."Dead sure!" Nicholas bellowed, each word a hammer blow of conviction.Nicholas was a man of average stature, his features unremarkable except for the prominent nose that gave his face a touch of character. His bald pate and sallow complexion made him look like a farmer worn down by a lifetime of hard labour, but when he spoke, his eyes sparked with a glimmer of hope for his life again.Of course, he was no farmer. The rock on his right ring finger, a diamond of at least ten carats, was a testament to that. What was striking most, however, was his left sleeve. Nothing was there, as if it had been swallowed by a shadow.“But this is the Forest of Death! The young man steered the tactical vehicle to a halt in front of a shabby thatched hut. Edward suddenly reached into his pocket and pulled out a small sachet.Upon opening it, a peculiar little creature crawled out.It was entirely white, with a tiny head and two small antennae, resembling a centipede with numerous legs."Element Bug Number One, go and scan this tiger for any abnormal elements within its body," Edward instructed. The little creature nodded like a proper soldier and then soon crawled into the tiger's wound. The tiger flinched slightly, clearly uneasy, but Edward's gentle strokes on its head calmed it down in a minute."Easy there, I'm just having it check you out. Relax, I need to find the cause of your condition to cure you completely," he reassured the beast.A few minutes later, the bug emerged from the wound, now with three colors on its body: white, black, and red."Good job!" "Damn it!"Edward ducked and hit the deck just in time as speedy bullets whistled over his head. A hail of gunfire followed, and he quickly tumbled into a nearby grave for cover.“Roll now!” the tall masked man barked, struggling to his feet.As the chaos was the perfect cover, the hitmen made a hasty retreat. The air was thick with tension. And in a minute, the silence reigned around Edward. He felt the air grow still as if it were holding its breath.Only when he felt it was clear did he cautiously poke his head out from behind the tombstone.“Holy shit, they got away!” he seethed. “You won’t slip away like this next time!”Thankfully, he’d made a mental note of that phone number—a thin lead, but better than nothing.Suddenly, a dull ache throbbed in his chest as he pondered his next move.“The Lockthroat hasn’t been fully neutralized yet,” he muttered. “I need to find some special herbs.”Without a moment to spare, Edward decided to make his exit.He returned to his grandfather’s g

“You’ve sucked in our Lockthroat Powder; it’s time to meet your maker,” came the ominous threat.“I’ve got no beef with you guys. Why are you gunning for me?” Edward growled, his tone a mix of rage and bewilderment.Right then, he felt the full force of the black mist he had inhaled earlier—it was lethal, tearing at his lungs and making each breath a struggle.“We’re just doing our job. You’ve made enemies you shouldn’t have.”“You’ve gotten in the way of our boss’s profits.”Edward quickly put the pieces together—these dozen men surrounding him were hitmen hired by someone he’d ticked off.Two of them, one lanky and the other short, attacked from each side.He saw the glint of daggers aiming straight for his heart.Edward dodged just in the nick of time. The Lockthroat Powder had indeed slowed him down, turning him tenfold clumsier than he usually was.Otherwise, a dozen thugs like these wouldn’t have stood a chance of getting within arm’s reach.“Wow, it looks like you’re not bad at
