Cade sat in his living room after returning to his penthouse later that night, remembering all that went on over at his mom's. She had cried when he was about to leave and though it broke his heart, he just couldn't ruin their plans by staying with her. Cade looked at the cheque again. He could not believe his eyes. But the cheque had not been cashed either, and that was why the slip was still here. Cade went through the file again, hoping to find something else that would make him understand the context of everything, but all he could see were work records. There wasn’t anything else that would be incriminating enough to be considered evidence against Alex. He could not bring himself to look at the work records properly because of how surprised he was to see the cheque. He kept the papers well arranged, and just as Gale had given it to him, and closed the envelope. The cheque had made him more interested in Mr Robert's death than he had initially been. Cade woke up very early the next day. He had gotten enough sleep from last night, and had a lot to do today. He sat up on his bed with his back propped up against his pillow and in his head, he began to enumerate his activities for the day. He would call Gale as soon as he came back from the gym which was his first agenda on the list, then he would have to wait for the records to be provided by Gale. That was pretty much all he had to do today and tomorrow and the next days to come till he was done looking into the records, then all he would be doing is regaining his physique. It was the end of the week and Cade was almost done looking into the records that Gale brought from the company. The file was large, but not as enormous as he had expected since Milton Conglomerate had a lot of employees. Gale had gone through the trouble of editing the files to include only the most important details so it wouldn’t be too bulky. It took him the last three days of the week to finish looking into them all. He found some loopholes, but they were mainly just due to laxity and carelessness. In most of the departments' records, he found that the staff were quite underpaid and he attributed that to either the loss of money due to the lawsuits in the past or negligence on the part of the human resource manager. While the pay was still quite high, he could see that it reduced as the years passed. He would have to do something about that. Carlson was still in shock when he returned to his dorm room. He had no idea what to do and for a moment, he began to regret why he told Leighton to stay behind. Hours and hours later, after the procedure was complete, Cade opened his eyes again. The Doctor allowed only Raegan to go in to see him.
