Cade looked at the cheque again. He could not believe his eyes. But the cheque had not been cashed either, and that was why the slip was still here. Cade went through the file again, hoping to find something else that would make him understand the context of everything, but all he could see were work records. There wasn’t anything else that would be incriminating enough to be considered evidence against Alex. He could not bring himself to look at the work records properly because of how surprised he was to see the cheque. Cade woke up very early the next day. He had gotten enough sleep from last night, and had a lot to do today. He sat up on his bed with his back propped up against his pillow and in his head, he began to enumerate his activities for the day. It was the end of the week and Cade was almost done looking into the records that Gale brought from the company. The file was large, but not as enormous as he had expected since Milton Conglomerate had a lot of employees. Gale had gone through the trouble of editing the files to include only the most important details so it wouldn’t be too bulky. It took him the last three days of the week to finish looking into them all. He found some loopholes, but they were mainly just due to laxity and carelessness. In most of the departments' records, he found that the staff were quite underpaid and he attributed that to either the loss of money due to the lawsuits in the past or negligence on the part of the human resource manager. While the pay was still quite high, he could see that it reduced as the years passed. He would have to do something about that. Just as Cade had expected, Gale was furious when he learnt that Cade had spent the night at his mother’s place. They still weren’t sure if Alex and his mother had spies among the Milton mansion’s staff. Gale was still in the process of vetting them all which was why Cade always had to come disguised even for a brief meeting with his mother. And spending the night with her was dangerous, it would be very suspicious for a delivery guy to stay over and not leave till the next morning. But they thought of a solution. His martial arts training has also been going well so far. Since Cade learnt how to interact with his instructor, it had been going pretty well for him. He took the training seriously and dedicated two hours after his classes every day to practicing what he learnt. Now, he was excellent at the little he knew, and his instructor was proud of him. Even though Ralph Park would never say anything more than 'good job' to Cade, he was really impressed at his student's progress.
