Morris saw this as his way of returning the favour that Carlson had once shown him in school. Even though now, Carlson may have forgotten what he did for Morris, Morris could still remember Carlson teaching him a maths problem in class one day. That maths problem was so important to Morris because his grades were dependent on that problem which he had always failed in his exams. So, Carlson teaching him that problem was basically Carlson saving his entire grades and even though it was years ago, Morris decided to use this opportunity to show his gratitude for Carlson's good deed at that time.

Soon after, Morris left, and Carlson also returned home. His mother noticed that he wasn’t in a great mood but she waited until he had eaten and taken a shower that evening before trying to talk to him. She knew her son so well that she could guess there was something wrong just from his facial expression and also knew that pestering him about it wasn’t the best way to get answers from him.
