"Don't you think you took it far?" Cage spoke to Chloe in the car.
"You can't do it? I have known you since we were kids. I know what you are capable of, Cage." Chloe smiled at him.
Cage hummed in positive. He knew she was right.
"Where is your house?" Chloe asked.
"Just stop here." Cage replied. He didn't want Chloe to know much about him.
"Thank you for the ride." Cage said when he stepped out of the car.
"You wouldn't show me your home?" Chloe quirked a brow.
"Not now, Chloe. I have to prepare to see your family tomorrow." Cage reminded her.
Chloe's face dropped, but she understood.
Cage walked to the estate. His car had been appropriately parked in his garage.
His phone rang the moment he stepped into his house.
"Hello, Lily. I'm listening." Cage spoke into the phone.
"I did what you asked me to do. I have also prepared the contract." Lily reported.
Lily hoped she could still help him out.
"Thank you, Lily." Cage uttered.
"Excuse me, Sir. Are you alone?" Lily spoke with a flirty tone.
"I am." Cage said.
"I can provide company, Sir. You just… " Lily was saying.
Cage ended the call, walking to make himself a cup of coffee.
He had a bet to beat.
Lily was stunned when she realized that Cole wasn't listening to her anymore. Her face turned red out of embarrassment.
Cage called Zo at midnight.
"Hello Zo, I want to start a new business. I'm going to enter the food industry." Cage uttered.
"That's a brilliant idea, young master. I'm guessing it's for the bet against Daryl Gray." Zo spoke
"I don't know how you found out, but yes, it's for the bet. I'd need land and a dying food business." Cage instructed.
The reason he wanted a dying food business was so he could get the employees ready, and he could only become a shadow in the industry.
"That reminds me, young Master. I ate at a restaurant yesterday. Their food reminded me of home. However, they didn't have many customers." Zo replied.
"You'd take me there the day after tomorrow. I have to meet Chloe's family tomorrow." Cage sighed.
"Yes, young master. Although, why do you need land?" Zo inquired.
"When the food business is popular, I'd move it to the new site. It will be a ten-star restaurant when I'm done with it. " Cage chuckled.
"I have confidence in your skills, Young Master," Zo said.
"Thank you, Zo. Rest well." Cole ended the call after saying that.
He brought out his laptop and began his research on the food demand in the country.
It was going to be a long night.
It was 4 am when Cage checked his email. He saw the contract Lily had prepared and signed it.
He needed to get his car business on the move.
Cage emailed Lily with the address of his car shop and told her to inform the technology company to begin production of the improved cars.
After settling his problems, Cage rested.
The next item was to visit Chloe's family.
Cage woke up and got ready to visit Chloe.
He had just seen a text that her grandfather's birthday was today.
She had forgotten to inform me.
Cage didn't mind. He knew that Chloe was a forgetful person.
She would forget her head if it weren't stuck to her neck.
Cage just needed to look for something worth the old man.
From his former experience and what Chloe had told him. It seemed like the grandfather was prone to attacks from the inner family members.
Precisely, his first step was to get something that would assist him in warding off evil.
Cage found his way to an antique shop.
He had decided to study archeology during his free time. Now, his efforts were about to produce fruits.
Cage walked into an antique store and looked around.
"Please, don't touch the items on display." The shop owner came to Cage's side when he wanted to examine an item.
Cage was surprised for a minute, but he regained his composure.
"How else do I know if it's real or fake?" Cage said with emphasis on the word 'fake.'
A vein popped up in the shop owner's head at the prospect of being called a scammer.
"I assure you, Sir. None of the items here are fake." The man huffed.
Cage nodded. He turned his head to the left and quickly spotted a fake item.
"How much is that?" Cage said, pointing to the item.
"It's ten hundred dollars, Sir." The man had no enthusiasm in his eyes because he thought Cage had no money to pay for such an expensive item.
"It's fake." Cage was blunt.
"What?" The man frowned. How dare this man come to his shop to accuse him of fake items.
"If you think everything here is fake, why not go elsewhere?" The man spoke, holding back his frustration.
"I haven't found what I'm looking for." Cage answered.
Some people heard their conversation, and they left the shop.
An item caught Cage's eyes. It was a jade bracelet with intricate golden designs.
Cage inched closer to the item and reached for it.
He had to inspect this beauty.
"Hey! You can't touch that!" The shop owner ran to stop Cage.
"I'm buying it." Cage's eyes were focused on the item. He dipped his hand and handed a stash of cash to the owner.
The shop owner was amazed at the pile of cash in his hands, but when he looked up, Cage had vanished.
Cage arrived at Chloe's mansion after following the directions she gave to him.
"Hey, who are you? You can't come in here. Invites only." The gateman refused to let him in.
The party at Richland's mansion was extravagant.
Every single top celebrity was invited to the grandfather's party.
Both enemies and friends ensured they came to feast their eyes on the presents that would be given to the old man.
It was also rumored that the famous Chloe Richland was announcing her fiancé at the party.
The internet wondered how she managed to keep her marriage under the bush.
Chloe, on the other hand, moved through the guests frantically.
"Where is he? How could he be late?" She felt disappointed.
Suddenly, a sound came from her phone. It was a text notification.
"E-invites."
It was a single word, and it was from Cage.
Chloe slapped her head and sent him what he wanted. She couldn't believe she forgot.
"Hello, everyone. Welcome to the birthday party of Grandmaster Richland. It's time to open up the gifts."
A man's voice came from the speaker.
Chloe cringed at the sound. She hated him.
This man was the family's first son and her father, James Richland.
The guests moved back and allowed the family members to present their gifts.
"Hello Grandfather. I bought this five-hundred-year-old harmonica. History says when played, it releases the sound of the ocean." A young woman with a model body bowed before the old man as she spoke.
"It's worth ten million dollars." She said with pride.
The crowd went wild.
"Ten million?"
"The Richland Family are wealthy!"
"The car I drove here is half of that amount."
"I can't keep living if I can't be rich like this. I'm off the jump. Don't hold me."
Everyone was amazed at such an expense.
Chloe frowned. That lady was her aunt. She knew she had ulterior motives, and she didn't trust her at all.
The sons and daughters of the old man presented their gifts, stirring up the crowd's hearts.
The last of the gifts cost ten million dollars.
It was just too much.
"It is time for the presentation of the Grandmaster Richland grandchildren's gifts," James stated. His eyes moved to Chloe briefly, and he was about to speak again.
Chloe swallowed. She knew her father would not hesitate to disgrace her at every chance.
"My husband says he wants to go first." A calm voice erupted from the family stand.
Chloe grimaced, "Not her again."
It was her younger sister, Rochelle Richland.
"Come, my dear son, give Grandpa your gift," James said with a loving smile.
As the man walked forward, James decided to speak his mind.
"It seems my first daughter's fake fiance isn't here today," James said mockingly.
"Maybe she chased him off with her bad omens." Rochelle smiled.
The crowds snickered and gossiped.
"What a fraud."
"Why would she lie? Did she want fame?"
" I hate liars."
However, Chloe didn't care what they said. She knew he was going to come for her.
Rochelle's husband stood in front of the Grandmaster of the family and proclaimed his gift.
"This is a jade bracelet from before the Great China Wall was built. The royal jade smith made it. It was designed to keep the emperor safe. from evil attacks." Mason said with a lofty smile.
"It's worth five hundred million." He uttered.
The crowd went into a state of commotion.
That was the highest gift price they had heard since the party started.
Grandfather Richland's eyes sparkled.
This was worth every penny.
Mason presented it to the grandfather and watched as the old man was about to wear it.
"That bracelet is fake." A loud voice resounded in the hall.
Chloe looked back and recognized the voice.
It was Cage!
Cage walked over to Chloe. He pulled her close by the waist and kissed her on the lips."I'm sorry I'm late." He smiled at her.The crowd wooed them. They couldn't believe their famous bachelorette got herself a hopeless romantic.Chloe was stunned when she felt Cage's lips on hers. He felt like a completely different person.Did he do this to convince her family?Chloe didn't know why she suddenly felt sad about it.He did what she expected him to do. They needed to convince the world that they were in love."Thank you for waiting for me." Cage muttered against her lips.Chloe forced herself to smile. She was meant to be happy, yet she felt empty. "Oh, my goodness. Did you see that?" Someone in the crowd said. The media took pictures of the kiss, and they knew what their headlines would be the next day."He is so handsome. Look at the way he smiled at her.""Dear future husband, please be like Miss Chloe's fiancé."Almost every lady present couldn't take their eyes off Cage, and so
Emotions were very high after her grandfather had declared his intentions. Mason, who was still pale, could feel the blood beat in his brain as the humiliation settled. He couldn't believe it, it all felt so f*cking strange because he didn't expect anything of that sort was ever going to happen. Rochelle wasn't having it either. "You conniving snake!" She spat, glaring at Chloe venomously before her eyes quickly went to Cage. "How dare you deceive us all with your stupid lies and trickery?" Her loud voice had silenced the whole crowd. All they could do was watch as she ranted. "Don't listen to this man!! He's a liar!! And that bitch over there is just using him to garner some stupid sympathy and take everything away from me!" Despite her rantings and curses, Cage didn't move an inch. He felt they were all going to get what they deserved, and there was no turning back until he had achieved the satisfaction that he desperately craved from seeing these humans crawl and beg and cry. H
From the corner of his eyes, he saw the couple storm out of the hall in anger, but he couldn't have cared less. It was oddly satisfying, to say the least.Their passionate kiss was interrupted when Mr. Richland stepped forward. His eyes shone with pride and affection, despite the onslaught that had gone on earlier. He was the only one who differentiated the wolves from the sheep, despite his age. "My dear daughter," he began, sounding so emotional. "I have an announcement to make." The room immediately fell silent as one of the maids held out the microphone to speak. He briefly apologised for what had happened earlier and went on. "I have decided to announce Chloe as my successor because she has proven herself to be worthy of the title. She was the only one who stood by my side and helped me recover when others wished for my death." A collective gasp went through the room. It took a little while before the room finally went silent again. He went on again, thanking Chloe and Cage
He stopped the car once they were a safe distance away from the party. The light from his car died, and the darkness returned. Then he vented his spleen."Fuck! Fuck!!" A scream left his throat as he pummelled the steering wheel in pure rage before bowing and covering his face. He had been scalded."I'm going to kill that bastard! He has no idea who he's messed with. I will not rest until I've taught him a very big lesson, one he won't be alive to correct!" Rochelle was equally white with rage but she had not yet found the mouth with which to voice the way she felt at the moment. She had been thrown out of the party she helped organise, and to add salt to the injury, Chloe and her fiancé had somehow turned into their engagement party. Her knuckles were turning white with anger as the events of the evening replayed in her mind like a kind of broken record. Each time she remembered how her sister and her fake fiancé had treated them, her rage and resentment skyrocketed. It hurt her so
It was very difficult to discern the secret of Cage's success for most people, considering how fast and how insanely famous it had become in such a short time. Word-of-mouth spread like wildfire across the country, drawing crowds who were eager to experience the culinary delights his restaurants provided. Within weeks, it had become the talk of the town. But it wasn't to come without a price. He had put himself to work like one possessed, since he wanted to make sure that he made the most out of it. And from the look of things, his company was destined for even greater success. He had established many restaurants across the country to meet up with the demand. He spearheaded the whole thing with the help of his team- a handpicked group of brains who gave him strategic advice on how to run his business and so far they had not failed him. On this particular night, he had just arrived home from his first restaurant which was opened in the city. He had gone himself to make sure that eve
"Where the fuck are you!" He growled to himself, already starting to get nervous. He feared for the worst even though his tracks had been perfectly covered. Every incident that had led to this was impeccably executed. Something was wrong, and he hoped Cage wasn't behind it. If he was, then that was going to be the end. He couldn't imagine his mission ending before it even started. "Think, think!" He berated himself, wanting to be optimistic about the whole thing. But it was past time. He looked at the clock again and it seemed to stare back at him with the alarming reality. He was fighting so hard not to pick up the phone right now. The only sound in the room was that or his angry brooding and the ticking of the Victorian-esque clock tucked at the far corner of the wall. For Daryl, there wasn't any time to waste and f*ck around. Morality was just a facade and a construct of the weak-minded. For him, it didn't matter whether the path to conquest was paved with virtue or vice. What
Cage was in the middle of his busy day when his phone buzzed with a call from Zo. He picked up the phone before sighing loudly and leaning back on the chair, it had been a very exacting work and he was happy he had something that would put his mind off it, at least for the moment. "Cage, I've got some interesting news for you." She said as soon as he answered. He listened in, hearing the sound of flipping papers in the background before he continued. "We've been approached by Aerovista for a potential partnership." He sounded excited, but that didn't seem to be the case for Cage who was confused about what this meant. "AeroVista?' His brows came together in confusion as he thought about it. "It sounded pretty much like an airline company but he hadn't heard about them, well, until now." Zo explained. "Yeah, Aerovista. The biggest airline company in the world right now." Cage didn't didn't ask any more questions. This time, his brows shot up in surprise. "A partnership? What do the
He glanced around, shaking his head while still wondering how the attack had been initiated and how they had been able to get in. For him it was unbelievable that anyone could get through the kind of security at the restaurant but right now he knew that it was more than possible. He was faced with the stark impression that it had happened. He thought about the Aerovista CEO and about warning him to leave, but on a second thought, he shook his head and pushed off the thought since his security team would do that. He didn't want to leave the restaurant and go anywhere else. In fact if he had the necessary powers to deal with things, he would have preferred to stay behind and fight the enemy until they were gone. But this was no type of case. It was a very serious one but he wanted to see to the end of it. His thoughts were interrupted when his phone rang. With a furrowed brow, he took the phone out from his pocket, thinking it was his security official but it was a different person.
Trevor couldn't believe that this was happening. He'd gotten off the call with hopes that Cage wouldn't do anything, but when he had gotten off the phone with Cage, he couldn't believe it. It was still very hard to assimilate the words he had heard. They were devastating, utterly devastating. The threat and the calmness in his voice, he was still finding it very hard to believe a single word of it. "It's a fucking bluff," he said under his breath as he kept pacing the entire room. There was a lot more to this. "There is no way he's going to be able to freeze my accounts. That's not going to happen without a court order." So far he had been able to stay under the radar because of the palms he had to grease. It had saved him a lot and hearing what was about to happen meant a lot of things. It meant there was no way he could report to the authorities because they would find out what he had been doing and there wouldn't be a way to cover up the skeleton he'd been hiding in his cupboard
Cage stood outside his house, pacing back and forth like a caged beast. He had been very worried, ever since he got the call from the agents some minutes before now. He trusted their abilities, but hearing that Chloe had been rescued was everything he could ask for. He couldn't wait to see her come back to him again. As soon as this was done, the Gedan Family would be shooting themselves in the foot. They had made a very big mistake the moment they decided to take her away from him so they could manipulate him into giving her up. He was going to make sure they suffered and got what they deserved. There was no mercy here. The silence was heavy where he stood and it was only broken by the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze. He couldn't shake the images of Chloe's terrified face haunting his mind. He continued to stand there, patiently waiting. It wasn't long before he heard the sound of an approaching car. It pulled him from his thoughts as he walked to the direction. A black S
The night was dark and silent and the moon cast an eerie glow over the old warehouse. It was the perfect time to attack and that was why they had chosen this time to do it. The two couldn't wait to finish what was started not long before now. Chloe sat on a cold, hard chair. Her hands were tied and her heart was pounding furiously in her chest. She hadn't hadn't gotten a blink of sleep since she was apprehended because of how scared she was. She had never been more scared than she was at the moment. Be thoughts were filled with worry for her un or child and for Cage. She knew he would come for her, but she had no idea how or when. She only wanted to hope and kept looking out that he would come for her one day. She knew he would but normally he should have already come for her, but he hadn't yet. And that worried her so much. That was the moment the sound of gunfire suddenly erupted outside the warehouse. Her heart skipped a beat as her fear intensified immediately. She didn't know w
That night was the longest night in his life. While the rest had gone to sleep, he stayed awake, restless and shaken. Even with the thought that she was not hurt at the moment, he couldn't risk the dread that had already engulfed him. Nothing made sense to him him anymore. He just wanted to see her safe and he knew he was going to pull off something extra to get this done. He was back home and no longer at his office now, but the Gedan family was still out here, and they had to be stopped. That was if the abductors weren't just trying to implicate them as the real suspects when they weren't. Cage was so angry and wondered how they had been unable to see that something like this could happen. Well, he didn't blame himself. There were no leads, no suspicious events that had led up to the kidnapping. It just happened out of nowhere, sending him crashing back into the world of hurt and pain and worries that he thought he would gone past now. He had to stop them and that was what he was a
"What happened?" He asked, the concern in his voice was as silent as a summer afternoon. Cage took a deep breath and answered. "Chloe has been kidnapped. And they want me to sign all my properties over to the Gedans Family in exchange for her release. I never saw anything of this sort coming but it looks like they have been planning it all along for a long time. I won't be surprised if I find out that they are connected to the problems we have been facing lately, especially with Marcia. They could be the ones who told her to do what she did and now that their plans won't work, they opted immediately to abduct my wife. Those bastards, once I have my hands on them I'm going to make sure they regret whatever they are doing right now." Cage said, growling and punching the table with his clenched fist. A day ago he was happy that he had been able to curtail the situation but right now, everything had just gotten worse and probably gone back to square one. There was a big silence, after
Cage sprinted back to his car as soon as he began to understand what was going on. He drove back home as fast as he could with his thoughts racing madly. He didn't know what to believe or think about. The fact that she had left an hour ago made him so worried and no matter how he tried to push the dangerous possibilities off and tell himself that she was OK, he couldn't. He knew that something was very wrong when he arrived home and rushed inside, calling out her name with a very panic-filled voice. "Chloe! Chloe!, are you here?" The house was eerily silent and he went to check the cameras after that. He found out that nobody had been there the whole time he was away. He had a very bad feeling in his gut at this point as he wondered what could have happened to her and where she might be at this point. Just for good measure, he checked every room, every corner, but there was no sign of her. The panic set in as he realised she was truly missing. He decided to wait, hoping she would wa
Cage felt so relieved and carefree as he drove down the familiar route to Chloe's family home. He was very happy because the problem had been solved at least and he just had to find out the main person behind the fake rumours. That wasn't a pain in the ass since whoever it was would be kept at bay as soon as he knew that he was wanted and a lot of people were looking for him. He had made a mental note earlier to call Dave to know if he'd found anything about the voice of the man who had spoken with Marcia over the phone. He was snapped out of his thoughts when someone honked at me from behind. He matched the accelerator and the car began to race down the tarmac. The later afternoon sun had already cast shadows on the earth but he barely noticed. He couldn't wait to get to the house and finally meet her. He was worried about what their conversation was going to sound like. He wondered if it would be awkward or emotional, considering what had happened between them before now. He remin
Cage didn't still safe despite the measures that had already been taken to bring down the allegations. He knew that something was still out there, searching and waiting for him to slip so they could strike. And he knew that he had to make sure that he didn't. The next day, he decided to call his lawyer again. He had decided that there was no need to rest anymore until he had gotten the whole problem sorted out. He felt uneasy when he picked up the phone and called his lawyer, Mark. The feeling was there with him, and it refused to leave him no matter how much he tried to. "Mark, I need to talk to you." He said, sounding tense even though he was trying everything possible not to sound that way. Yes, they had taken care of Marcia and her lies but that wasn't just working for him. It wasn't enough motivation because what faced them was bigger than Marcia, and even more deadly. He still remembered the attack of the assassins who had been sent to end his life. The thought made his gut
Two days later, Cage was in his house, particularly sitting at his desk in his study. The last few days had been a whirlwind of confusion and anxiety. The cops were still outside the estate where he was leaving, so he hadn't been able to leave the house since then, until he had been proven to be innocent. It was a very tiresome time for him and he couldn't wait to be done with it. That was the moment that his phone suddenly rang. He thought it was from his assistant or Mark but when he peered into the phone it was a strange number. It was strange because he didn't know who it was and because the caller ID was only composed of very short numbers that nobody in the state used. It almost looked foreign, and he prayed that it was the government house so he could be done with this. But on a second thought, he wondered what it would be if it wasn't really the government house but instead the perpetrator. His heart pounded as he picked up the phone. "Hello, this is Cage. " He said, doing e
