Cage slept well that afternoon and in his own house. He woke up, made coffee, and got ready for the party at the Williams.
"Good day, Sir. I have completed your request."
Lily said from the other side of the phone.
"Good, prepare a contract for the company. They would assist us in creating a device." Cage started.
"What device, Sir?" Lily asked him.
"Good question, Lily. Remind me to increase your salary. I have purchased a car shop filled with cars," Cage ordered.
After listening to his idea, Lily was shocked. It was a brilliant idea.
Turning cars into taxis? She would never think of such things.
"You would monitor the earnings of the drivers with the device. A splendid idea, Sir." Lily said. She was filled with praise.
"Yes, so get the documents ready. I'll be seeing you soon." Cage said.
"Please don't forget about my salary increments." Lily reminded him.
"That reminds me, Lily. You remember the invitation to the Williams house to see their graduating daughter?" Cage asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
"I do, Sir. You told me to hold it. Are you going to the party today, Sir?" Lily inquired.
"Yes. However, I want you to go to the party, tell them the CEO won't be making it, and inform Carden Williams that she is not qualified for the post. I want to keep my identity hidden for the meantime." Cage spoke with a smile on his face.
"Noted, Sir," Lily replied, and the line went off.
Cage knew he had one more thing to do before he went to the party. He needed a date.
"Who better to call than my dear fiancée, Chloe Richland, the most famous bachelorette."
Cage thought to himself. His plan was slowly in motion.
Chloe wasted no time in accepting the invitation. She even compelled Cage to let her pick him up.
Cage directed her to a street, telling her to wait for him.
They arrived at the mansion in quick time.
"I can't believe I let you do this to me." Cage muttered.
"You are special to me, dear fiance. We have to make everyone think we are truly in love. So allow me." Chloe said.
She opened the car door, allowing Cage to step out.
Chloe giggled when she saw the look of annoyance on Cage's face.
"Besides, I owe you. Enjoy this." Chloe smiled at Cage.
She thought he looked very handsome with his signature earrings and necklace.
He had a tailored suit with a diamond-encrusted design on the collar.
"You look stunning, Chloe." Cage said with a bow, taking the words from Chloe's mouth.
"You too," Chloe said, and they entered the building.
The hall was amazingly decorated, and the guests were immersed in their celebration.
"Congratulations, Carmen. You look beautiful." A man said and kissed Carmen's cheek lightly.
"Thank you, Brother Zain." Carmen was happy. Yet, she couldn't escape the hollow feeling in her chest.
"Do you think he would come, Mother?" Carmen asked for the umpteenth time.
Grace looked at her, "Why are you so obsessed with his coming? The cage is lower than your level now. Stop going back to your vomit." Grace snapped.
"Yes, Mum. You are right. Cage couldn't care for me, so he doesn't deserve me." Carmen said with pride in her voice.
A man came and hugged her from behind before kissing her neck.
"Congratulations, Babe, you did it. I'm so glad you left that peasant. He wouldn't be able to maintain your stunning appearance." Daryl uttered and kissed her neck.
"We are in public, Daryl. Behave, I want to go and attend to some guests."Carmen chuckled and wiggled out of his grasp.
"Thank you for coming." Carmen greeted everyone with joy.
Her eyes moved, trying to search for him, but he didn't come.
Just as she gave up, a group of bodyguards came in, laying a red carpet on the floor.
"What's happening?" Someone said,
"I heard that Chloe Richland is coming here." Another replied.
"You are kidding. Chloe Richland? The lady sitting in the top ten most popular females in the world?"
The crowd began to whisper. They couldn't believe it.
"Wait? Was Carmen able to invite Chloe Richland? How did she do it?"
A lot of the guests were astounded when they realized what was going on.
Meanwhile, other people had started to post tweets and updates about it on the internet.
Carmen was astounded. She wondered why Chloe Richland was at her ceremony. Nonetheless, she was glad.
She would finally gain the popularity she deserved.
Carmen turned to her mother, Grace.
"Go and welcome her. Don't just stand there." Grace had a wide grin on her face.
The women in her community would give her the respect she deserved after this.
Carmen nodded.
She was about to run forward when she halted.
There was a man beside Chloe Richland.
"Isn't that Cage?" Carmen was shocked.
"That's your ex-husband, right?" Daryl came to stand beside Carmen. He had a strange look on his face.
How did such a trash bag get this diamond in the rough?
"Cage?" Carmen exclaimed when she came closer to the couple.
Cage slowly turned to look at her with indifference in his eyes.
Carmen could not recognize him from afar.
He looked so different.
She never realized he was this handsome.
"Oh, you know him?" Chloe uttered, looking at Carmen.
Carmen was speechless.
"You should introduce us, Cage." Chloe giggled loudly.
"Oh my gosh. She has such a pretty laugh." The media had appeared at once.
They had begun to take pictures of everything that was happening.
Cage smiled at Chloe, "Don't worry, Chloe. I don't know her, so she isn't important." Cage uttered.
Carmen nearly vomited blood.
"I'm your ex-wife, Cage! How can you say you don't know me?" Carmen spoke with bitterness.
Cage was silent.
"You guys were married?" Chloe had surprise written all over her face.
"I… " Carmen didn't know how to reply.
"You were married to such a man, and you let him out of your grasp?" Chloe chuckled.
It all seemed funny to her.
Carmen felt offended by her.
Who does this lady think she is?
Meanwhile, the guests couldn't keep their eyes off the two people.
"I got someone better." Carmen snapped.
"Chloe, it seems there's nothing good in this place. We should leave." Cage uttered.
Carmen wanted to die when she heard his words.
"Shut your mouth, you useless scum," Daryl snarled. He turned his face to Chloe
"I don't know such an angelic beauty like yourself would be seen close to this trash." Daryl snorted in annoyance.
"You are worth nothing compared to him, and I don't care. He is my fiancé, and nothing else matters." Chloe dropped the bomb.
Cage sighed. He didn't think she would do that here.
"Chloe Richland is getting married?" The media went wild, rushing to take pictures of Chloe and Cage.
"What?" Carmen was about to speak, but she was interrupted.
"You are making the wrong decision, angel. This man isn't worth your pristine looks." Daryl butted in.
"Shut up, Daryl. You were cheating on me during the marriage, Cage?" Carmen snapped.
For the first time, Cage looked at her.
Carmen felt the air tighten around her neck from his stare alone. She couldn't breathe.
The man had not even spoken.
"He is my childhood friend, and we met two days ago after twenty years. You have the wrong idea, and you, " Chloe said and turned to Daryl.
"If you think you are better than my husband-to-be, let's take a bet," Chloe said with a sparkle in her eyes.
"Yes, I agree. I want to see what you think you can do without me, Cage. This is how you repay me after everything." Carmen spat out in anger.
Her mother watched from the sidelines. Her mouth was hung open when she recognized who stood by the celebrity.
Her dreadful ex-son-in-law.
"Good then. The first man to profit a hundred million dollars from a new business in five months would win the bet," Choke uttered.
The crowd went wild. Cameras flashed, taking pictures of the moment
Carmen had a migraine. A hundred million dollars was too much. Would Cage be able to do it?
Carmen wondered why Chloe had so much faith in him.
He was inferior, or was there something that she wasn't seeing?
"Deal," Daryl said at once. He knew Cage was a peasant, and he would never be able to start a new business on his own.
"I'm not done. The loser would have to lick the winner's shoe in front of the internet and announce that he is the most useless person in the world." Chloe declared.
"Perfect. I'd make sure my shoes are extra dirty on that day." Daryl snickered.
At once, the internet went wild.
"Chloe Richland had initiated a bet between two men."
That was the headline the news platforms were working on.
" Let's go, Chloe. We have wasted too much time. " Cage said and turned around.
"Cage… " Carmen wanted to speak. Cage ignored her and walked out.
"Leave him be, Babe. He's not worth your time." Daryl said.
His eyes followed Chloe as she moved with Cage.
"Curse that bastard and his damn luck. How did he always get the best one? " Daryl grumbled in his head.
"You are right. The party isn't over yet. Let's prepare for the arrival of the Marines and Shares' CEO." Carmen forced a smile on her face.
A lady walked to her.
"Are you Miss Carmen Williams?" Lily asked.
"Yes, I am," Carmen answered.
"My name is Lily, secretary of the Marines and Shares' CEO," Lily uttered.
"Oh, you are welcome. Why don't I see the CEO around?" Carmen questioned in confusion.
"I'm sorry. The CEO has termed you as unqualified for the post of marketing manager, and he won't be attending the party. Thank you." Lily said and walked out.
Carmen was stunned.
"He rejected me," Carmen murmured. She couldn't understand what went wrong.
She had gotten the job before, so what happened?
"Don't you think you took it far?" Cage spoke to Chloe in the car."You can't do it? I have known you since we were kids. I know what you are capable of, Cage." Chloe smiled at him.Cage hummed in positive. He knew she was right."Where is your house?" Chloe asked. "Just stop here." Cage replied. He didn't want Chloe to know much about him. "Thank you for the ride." Cage said when he stepped out of the car."You wouldn't show me your home?" Chloe quirked a brow."Not now, Chloe. I have to prepare to see your family tomorrow." Cage reminded her.Chloe's face dropped, but she understood.Cage walked to the estate. His car had been appropriately parked in his garage. His phone rang the moment he stepped into his house."Hello, Lily. I'm listening." Cage spoke into the phone."I did what you asked me to do. I have also prepared the contract." Lily reported.Lily hoped she could still help him out."Thank you, Lily." Cage uttered."Excuse me, Sir. Are you alone?" Lily spoke with a flirty
Cage walked over to Chloe. He pulled her close by the waist and kissed her on the lips."I'm sorry I'm late." He smiled at her.The crowd wooed them. They couldn't believe their famous bachelorette got herself a hopeless romantic.Chloe was stunned when she felt Cage's lips on hers. He felt like a completely different person.Did he do this to convince her family?Chloe didn't know why she suddenly felt sad about it.He did what she expected him to do. They needed to convince the world that they were in love."Thank you for waiting for me." Cage muttered against her lips.Chloe forced herself to smile. She was meant to be happy, yet she felt empty. "Oh, my goodness. Did you see that?" Someone in the crowd said. The media took pictures of the kiss, and they knew what their headlines would be the next day."He is so handsome. Look at the way he smiled at her.""Dear future husband, please be like Miss Chloe's fiancé."Almost every lady present couldn't take their eyes off Cage, and so
Emotions were very high after her grandfather had declared his intentions. Mason, who was still pale, could feel the blood beat in his brain as the humiliation settled. He couldn't believe it, it all felt so f*cking strange because he didn't expect anything of that sort was ever going to happen. Rochelle wasn't having it either. "You conniving snake!" She spat, glaring at Chloe venomously before her eyes quickly went to Cage. "How dare you deceive us all with your stupid lies and trickery?" Her loud voice had silenced the whole crowd. All they could do was watch as she ranted. "Don't listen to this man!! He's a liar!! And that bitch over there is just using him to garner some stupid sympathy and take everything away from me!" Despite her rantings and curses, Cage didn't move an inch. He felt they were all going to get what they deserved, and there was no turning back until he had achieved the satisfaction that he desperately craved from seeing these humans crawl and beg and cry. H
From the corner of his eyes, he saw the couple storm out of the hall in anger, but he couldn't have cared less. It was oddly satisfying, to say the least.Their passionate kiss was interrupted when Mr. Richland stepped forward. His eyes shone with pride and affection, despite the onslaught that had gone on earlier. He was the only one who differentiated the wolves from the sheep, despite his age. "My dear daughter," he began, sounding so emotional. "I have an announcement to make." The room immediately fell silent as one of the maids held out the microphone to speak. He briefly apologised for what had happened earlier and went on. "I have decided to announce Chloe as my successor because she has proven herself to be worthy of the title. She was the only one who stood by my side and helped me recover when others wished for my death." A collective gasp went through the room. It took a little while before the room finally went silent again. He went on again, thanking Chloe and Cage
He stopped the car once they were a safe distance away from the party. The light from his car died, and the darkness returned. Then he vented his spleen."Fuck! Fuck!!" A scream left his throat as he pummelled the steering wheel in pure rage before bowing and covering his face. He had been scalded."I'm going to kill that bastard! He has no idea who he's messed with. I will not rest until I've taught him a very big lesson, one he won't be alive to correct!" Rochelle was equally white with rage but she had not yet found the mouth with which to voice the way she felt at the moment. She had been thrown out of the party she helped organise, and to add salt to the injury, Chloe and her fiancé had somehow turned into their engagement party. Her knuckles were turning white with anger as the events of the evening replayed in her mind like a kind of broken record. Each time she remembered how her sister and her fake fiancé had treated them, her rage and resentment skyrocketed. It hurt her so
It was very difficult to discern the secret of Cage's success for most people, considering how fast and how insanely famous it had become in such a short time. Word-of-mouth spread like wildfire across the country, drawing crowds who were eager to experience the culinary delights his restaurants provided. Within weeks, it had become the talk of the town. But it wasn't to come without a price. He had put himself to work like one possessed, since he wanted to make sure that he made the most out of it. And from the look of things, his company was destined for even greater success. He had established many restaurants across the country to meet up with the demand. He spearheaded the whole thing with the help of his team- a handpicked group of brains who gave him strategic advice on how to run his business and so far they had not failed him. On this particular night, he had just arrived home from his first restaurant which was opened in the city. He had gone himself to make sure that eve
"Where the fuck are you!" He growled to himself, already starting to get nervous. He feared for the worst even though his tracks had been perfectly covered. Every incident that had led to this was impeccably executed. Something was wrong, and he hoped Cage wasn't behind it. If he was, then that was going to be the end. He couldn't imagine his mission ending before it even started. "Think, think!" He berated himself, wanting to be optimistic about the whole thing. But it was past time. He looked at the clock again and it seemed to stare back at him with the alarming reality. He was fighting so hard not to pick up the phone right now. The only sound in the room was that or his angry brooding and the ticking of the Victorian-esque clock tucked at the far corner of the wall. For Daryl, there wasn't any time to waste and f*ck around. Morality was just a facade and a construct of the weak-minded. For him, it didn't matter whether the path to conquest was paved with virtue or vice. What
Cage was in the middle of his busy day when his phone buzzed with a call from Zo. He picked up the phone before sighing loudly and leaning back on the chair, it had been a very exacting work and he was happy he had something that would put his mind off it, at least for the moment. "Cage, I've got some interesting news for you." She said as soon as he answered. He listened in, hearing the sound of flipping papers in the background before he continued. "We've been approached by Aerovista for a potential partnership." He sounded excited, but that didn't seem to be the case for Cage who was confused about what this meant. "AeroVista?' His brows came together in confusion as he thought about it. "It sounded pretty much like an airline company but he hadn't heard about them, well, until now." Zo explained. "Yeah, Aerovista. The biggest airline company in the world right now." Cage didn't didn't ask any more questions. This time, his brows shot up in surprise. "A partnership? What do the
