RETURN OF THE WEALTHIEST WARLORD

Chapter 7

Ruth received yet some more burning news. One of her subordinates came to her with the news that, her greatest adversary had plans to buy a prime piece of land. That information yet disturbed the best part of her. Her suspicions about the new visitor in town started seeming true. She had to do something about that as well.

She requested of every detail about William’s plan. She was more concerned with whom the seller was more than anything else. She knew that, with the name of the seller, all she needed to do was to offer him a sweeter deal and cut William off.

As she was investigating, she found out that, the farm in question was located at a region said to have been bought by an anonymous buyer. It happened that, it was the remaining farm that had not yet been sold. Further investigation yet revealed more disturbing news. The anonymous buyer was none other but William.

It was at that time that she was certain of her suspicions. William was in deed on a serious mission and she had to do something fast. She planned a visit to the farmer and have a word with him concerning the deal.

At the Jeffersons, as Daniels was arriving home, he was met by a shock. As he was about to enter his home’s compound, a few armed men surrounded his car. They ordered him out of the car at gun point. Daniel seemed to hesitate to cooperate as he thought of a way out.

Suddenly, one of the gunmen shot a bullet through his window almost hurting him. With the window broken, they reached for the door handle, opened the door, masked him and dragged him out straight to their car. At that moment, the guards around his home were coming to his rescue but were too late.

They threw him into a dark van they had parked across the road and hastily drove off. They then cuffed his hands and legs to limit his movement. As they did all that, he never kept to himself. He was busy asking why they had kidnapped him and offering them ransom, thinking they were just common thieves.

One of the men was bold enough to give him an answer, “shut your mouth and remain quiet Mr. Daniels. Your questions will be answered soon enough”. After about a fifteen minute drive, the car took a circular turn and halted. The men opened the van door where he was and reached out for him. Scared, he started pleading for his life but they did not seem to listen. As they pulled him out of the van, they pulled out the mask on his face.

To his surprise, what he saw almost shocked his heart out. Standing in front of him was his friend and creditor, Mr. Kincaid. Thinking that he was there to rescue him, he started thanking him for saving his life. The man just stood there laughing without saying a word.

A while later, he got a phone call. He picked it and put it on speaker for Daniels to hear. The voice on the other end of the line was none other’s but James, his elder brother. He was requesting of the progress of the kidnapping. Worse enough, they asked Daniels to say a word to ascertain the success of his capture. After the ordeal, he tried to plead with Kincaid but he claimed to be in business.

Ruth arrived at the farmer’s compound. As usual, the man was nervous and took the very same precautions. Upon seeing her, he lowered his guard. She was among the wealthiest in Credonia. Her main business was minerals, the one she took after the death of the Jacobs. Majority of the people, more so farmers, knew her very well.

Her visiting his home in person was an honor. She then took the opportunity to ask him of their deal with William. The farmer was frank enough and told her of it. Ruth took the advantage of his trust and tarnished William’s name. She told the farmer the same story she had told Peterson that he was responsible for his family’s death.

On top of that, a few of the farmers around him had been brutally murdered. She claimed that, being a warlord, William was responsible for their death. The story worked well in her favor for William happened to have bought their pieces of land before they were killed.

She convinced him that William was to do the same to him. To save his life, she offered to buy the piece of land from him. She even promised a better deal. More money and better market for his minerals. The farmer was so touched by that and without thinking it through, he took and sealed the deal.

William and Kate were still working on finding the new location of the Donalds earthquake machine but without much of success. All they got were clues that led them nowhere worthy of credit. Out of options and time, they resulted to one last option. Since Kate was a very good hacker and expert coder, they decided to use the other machine in their possession. With the help of her group members, she promised to figure out a way to program the device to counter the effects of the other one.

Still trapped in that moment of trying to save the city and people’s lives including her friends’ families, Sophia received a phone call. It was from none other but her grandfather with the information that her father had just been kidnapped. He explained to her that the kidnapper wanted ransom and ordered for William not to be told about it.

He claimed that the kidnapper never wanted William’s involvement because he was a great warlord and very powerful. Failure to follow the instructions, her father was to be mailed to her in pieces. He let her know that they were willing to help if she was willing as well. Their idea was to sell her to the Donalds and use the money for her father’s release.

From the much love she had for her father, memory of William’s warning to her against helping her father, she had no other option but to agree. Before she could agree, she had a demand as well. She demanded them to request for enough money to pay the ransom and give some to her father to rekindle his business. She then agreed to be sold to the Donalds just to save her father’s life and business as well.

She hang up the phone and never mentioned a thing to William. Upon asking, she told him that it was her nagging step-mother apologizing and trying to talk her into doing business with them. She also claimed that her grandfather requested to see her on matters concerning their wedding.

All this she did to find a way out of William’s compound to honor her promise to save her father. She knew that William could not deny her permission to go see her family now that it had something to do with their cancelled wedding. She was also certain that, he was too busy with Kate to offer to go with her. Eventually, William was convinced and gave her the go ahead to go see her grandfather but still warned her to be cautious of her step-mother and not to trust her intentions.

A few days later, after the farmer had sold his land to Ruth, his dead body was discovered in one of his water wells. The news reached William. By the time, Nicholas, Peter and a few more men had arrived back. Still held up by the Donalds issue, he sent them to go investigate the incident and bring him their findings.

As instructed, Nicholas and Peter went to the farm to find out what had happened to the farmer. Upon arriving, they were met by the KCPD, Kibich City Police Department, officers. Upon identifying themselves, things got even worse. The officers started asking them questions in relation to the killing. The police claimed of getting information that their boss, William, was seen with the farmer a few days before his death.

The police also claimed that, a few of the dead farmer’s neighbors witnessed seeing a car matching one of William’s limos in that area on the day the farmer was brutally murdered. Without anything concrete to say, they had no other option but to call William. They notified him of the police claims and requested him to show up at the crime scene.

The news got William more disoriented and confused on what to do. Out of options, he requested his sister to do her best to solve the Donalds issue as he needed to go handle the police assertions at the dead farmers premise.
