CHAPTER 12

"Thanks for that red dress, but the one you bought was cheap! I liked it, but it wasn't as expensive as the branded clothes Carter bought me. You can only afford cheap prices, it's a big turned off for me." Merideth laughed.

"I worked hard for everything you want, but you are the one who doesn't know how to appreciate even the smallest things. I don't care about the prices, but don't underestimate my efforts because not all men will do whatever you want. Remember that." Oliver said seriously and decided to leave so that the conversation would end.

After he said that, a strong slap came from Merideth's palm. She did when she noticed that someone was taking a video of them.

"You have no right to insult me! Don't judge me as if you know my story!" There was a change in her voice to sound like she was the one being humiliated.

"Everyone, this man," she snap her fingers to catch the attention of some customers, "He is the type of person who will count what he did to other people to blackmail them. Avoid this man's face and teach him a lesson, I will return to him the gratitude he wanted!"

"Is that enough? Or do you want some more? Because I'm going to buy every shoe in here so you will stop making a mess with me and my fiancee!" Oliver looked at the brown shoes he wanted to buy but he didn't have the money, but he didn't want to accept that if it came from Merideth.

Oliver picked up a shoe to return to the shoe rack, Turned to the salesperson who had been watching them.

"Which pair of shoes did the lady just buy?"

"It's the latest Dior model," stammered the salesperson. "It costs $5999."

"Take out all the shoes that are more expensive than these."

"Are you kidding me?" Merideth said. "Just to humiliate yourself?"

The salesman hesitated. She wasn't sure the man really had the means to spend, but the way he looked at her was cold and sure, which made her suspect that she would lose her job if she didn't do what he said.

“If you don't, I'll find another salesperson who will.” Oliver said。

The salesperson didn't dare speak again. She went into the warehouse and took out all the shoes that fit Oliver's specifications. Merideth stood looking at them with a sneer.

"You're such a clown," she said to Oliver. At the same time, the salesperson placed the expensive shoes in front of Oliver one by one.

“This is a pair of Chanel shoes for $10,999, this is a pair of Gucci shoes for $7,999, and this one...”

"No need for introductions," Oliver interrupted. "I'll take them all."

The salesperson and Merideth stared blankly at the 15 pairs of shoes on display.

"All of them?" Merideth shrieked, almost throwing away her things. "You're just a homeless wrap! Now pretending you have money?"

The shop assistant brought in the credit card machine, and she still didn't believe that the man really could afford it. These shoes can earn more commission than she has earned in the past month.

"Payment successful," the beep says.

“Wrap them up, please,” Oliver said. “They're gifts.”

Ignoring Merideth, who was shivering in place, Oliver walked out the door. He stopped for a moment when he saw Julie on the opposite side who had been looking for him.

Julie was about to approach him but her attention was snatched away when Merideth called her.

"Hey, Julie!" She called her longtime friend and Julie was a little bit surprised to see her come to their neighborhood.

"Hi, Merideth," Julie waved her hand to greet her and she wasn't used to seeing her old friend change so much, "What are you doing arond?"

"You know, shopping and stuffs. " Merideth grinned, waving her diamond ring to flaunt her riches, "Where do you live now?"

Still in that old and poor apartment, she knew that. Julie thought. She didn't answer this question.

"I'm glad you want to see me, but what happened in there earlier?" Julie pointed at the shop because she knew that there was a conflict between Merideth and Oliver.

"I met my ex-boyfriend, Oliver, that disgusting rat, do you remember him? He was forcing me to get back with him." Merideth rolled her eyes affectedly, "I'm just lucky that Carter, who is now my fiancee, became my boyfriend." Merideth showed the diamond ring on her hand and Julie was amazed to see it.

"It looks stunning." She wanted to touch her ring but Merideth patted his hand.

"Don't touch it, it might get dirty," Merideth worried as she wiped her hand with a tissue.

"Oh sorry," Julie scratched her head and put her hand down. She couldn't help but feel shame in front of her friend who treated her like a nobody.

"That's why you haven't been successful, honey. You are so used to being poor that you have no taste. Always make such a fuss." Merideth smiled maliciously, but was quickly interrupted.

The person who interrupted her was Oliver.

"Excuse me." Oliver said, "Please don't talk to people like that, even if they are your friends. The way you talk makes you sound like a whore."

Merideth shrieked, “You Stalker, why did you follow me here?”

“I'm not here for you,” Oliver said, handing Julie the luxury bag of shoes he was carrying, "I bought you some gifts."
