CHAPTER 138

Oliver paced the small hospital room, his mind racing with possibilities. His stepbrother, Carter, lay in the bed, looking up at him with suspicion and anger. Oliver knew he had to convince him to help, but he couldn't shake the feeling that it was already too late.

"Carter, you have to believe me," Oliver said, stopping in front of the bed. "There's someone after me, and they're using you to get to me."

Carter scoffed, "I still don't believe you. Why would anyone be after you?"

"I don't know," Oliver admitted. "But they're leaving clues, trying to lead me to them."

Carter rolled his eyes, clearly not buying into Oliver's paranoia. "And you think I can help you? After everything you've done?"

"Yes," Oliver replied firmly. "We may not be on good terms, but we are still family. And we need to stick together if we want to figure out what's going on."

Carter shifted uncomfortably in the bed, not wanting to admit that Oliver had a point. "Fine," he finally relented. "But what's the plan?"
