5. The Black Card and A Tough Mandate

"Pay your respects to Lady Jane!" Mr. Liam said loudly.

After Mr. Liam's words were heard, Oliver bowed intensely. So did Michael and all the bodyguards lined up on either side of the mansion's long pool.

At the end of the long pool of the mansion grounds, there was a coffin box with a large picture frame. The picture in the frame was of Jane, Oliver's mother, with a large flower on top.

"We are very grateful for your service to Oliver," Mr. Liam said after straightening up.

Oliver was still looking at Jane's coffin with a sad gaze. He could not say anything. As he looked, Oliver remembered his own regrets.

Oliver imagined if he had not trusted the Lily Family's promise for Jane's treatment. If Oliver had also not sacrificed all his hard work to the Lily Family.

"If only I could have handled mom's treatment sooner," Oliver said as he looked at Jane's coffin.

Mr. Liam looked over at Oliver. Seeing the sad look on Oliver's face, his heart sank a little.

"This is not your fault, Oliver. It's the Aaron family's fault for treating you like shit," Mr. Liam said firmly.

Oliver was somewhat surprised, frowning at Mr. Liam's mention of the Aaron family.

"How do you know about the Aaron family?" asked Oliver.

Mr. Liam immediately curved a meaningful smile.

"Do you think I haven't been watching you for years? I even know what happened to you," replied Mr. Liam.

The conversation between the two of them did not continue anymore as they had to continue with the funeral process. After the car that would deliver Jane's coffin arrived, they all got ready to leave.

During the two hours of Jane's funeral process, Oliver finally returned to Mr. Liam's mansion. Oliver still felt insincere about Jane's death. He remembered all of Mr. Aaron's promises to pay for Jane's treatment if he gave all of his hard work to the Aaron Family.

In the end what Oliver got was betrayal and expulsion.

"What exactly happened to my life? Why did you suddenly come to say you are my real family?" Oliver asked Mr. Liam.

Mr. Liam sat on the single sofa while putting one leg over the other. Mr. Liam's gaze was fixed firmly on Oliver.

"Thirteen years ago, your mother and I were forced to put you in an orphanage, Oliver. I'm sure you must have heard half the story about your past from Michael," Mr. Liam said, casting a quick glance at Michael at the end of the sentence.

Oliver nodded his head.

After that, Mr. Liam continued, "Back then, our family situation was tense. I had many businesses, the most successful of which was the Moore NYU Hotel and Resort. Unfortunately, the success of Moore NYU Hotel and Resort posed a threat to other businesses."

Oliver still hadn't answered Mr. Liam's words. What Mr. Liam told him made his curiosity rise.

"They started attacking the Moore Family with all kinds of bad rumors, fabricated evidence, and all kinds of dangerous things so that bad news about our family appeared without stopping," Mr. Liam continued to say.

"As our family business started to grow rapidly, their threats became more extreme. They've tried putting poison in my drink, making it look like I'm meeting a business client when really they're preparing to gang up on me, too..."

Oliver's brows furrowed after hearing Mr. Liam's hanging sentence.

"...they repeatedly arranged traffic accidents so that I could not become the leader of Moore NYU Hotel & Resort," Mr. Liam continued.

Oliver sighed with a feeling of slight shock after knowing Mr. Liam's explanation. But somehow, he still didn't feel the desire to continue being the heir of Moore NYU Hotel & Resort.

"Then what is the reason you came to me again and asked me to return to this mansion?" Oliver asked.

Mr. Liam flinched for a moment. Just from the look on his face, he seemed to be thinking about something.

"Because I want you to resurrect Moore NYU Hotel & Resort," replied Mr. Liam in a serious tone.

Hearing Mr. Liam's answer made Oliver unable to reply anything. Oliver never expected that he would be given such a request.

"You're joking. How can I raise a business when I've lived in poverty for years?" Oliver asked in a somewhat offended tone.

Mr. Liam couldn't help but laugh when he heard Oliver's question.

"You will be able to learn easily, Oliver. Why are you so worried?" asked Mr. Liam.

Oliver was still frowning after hearing Mr. Liam's question.

While Mr. Liam then took something out of his wallet. A black card was given to Oliver.

"This is an American Express black card. There is no limit and you are free to buy everything you want."

After Mr. Liam explained that, Oliver was shocked. Oliver was stunned for a split second because he had never seen that card in his life.

"I'm giving this to you, two years ago I registered you as the holder of this card. You know not everyone can hold this, right?"

Oliver was still stunned looking at Mr. Liam's outstretched hand giving the black card. On the other hand Oliver was also considering whether he should accept this card or not.

"I don't deserve this card," Oliver refused with an awkward laugh.

Unfortunately Mr. Liam did not care about Oliver's words. The black card was still placed on the table with a serious look.

"I've never received a rejection in my life, Oliver," said Mr. Liam.

Oliver briefly glanced at Michael to question his opinion. After Michael only nodded soothingly, Oliver had no choice but to take the black card from Mr. Liam.

"I don't know why you're pushing me like this, Mr. Liam."

"Because you are the main heir of our family, Oliver. You have to keep the business going because only you can handle it," Mr. Liam said.

Oliver let out an exasperated breath.

"Alright then. So, what should we do first?" asked Oliver.

Mr. Liam gave his personal secretary the code to come closer. He whispered something, like he was asking a question.

After Mr. Liam's personal secretary checked the tablet thoughtfully, he said, "There will be a shareholders' meeting tomorrow, Mr. Liam. They want to discuss how Moore NYU Hotel & Resort is doing."

The look on Mr. Liam's face instantly changed to one of anxiety.

"They will definitely want to ask for the investment funds that have been given to Moore NYU Hotel & Resort."

Then Mr. Liam's gaze shifted to Oliver. At that moment Mr. Liam looked very serious.

"You should come with me to the meeting tomorrow, Oliver."
