Jason’s days in the Falkner estate were nothing like he had ever imagined. His grandfather, William Falkner, wasted no time. The moment Jason agreed to stay, the real training began.
---
“Wake up!”
Jason jolted awake as a bucket of ice-cold water splashed onto him. He gasped, shivering as he looked up to see his grandfather standing over him, his sharp eyes cold and unforgiving.
“You want to survive in this world, boy?” William said. “Then you don’t get the luxury of sleeping in.”
Jason gritted his teeth and got up. He had already learned that complaining got him nowhere.
His days were filled with intense lessons. In the morning, he studied business—how to negotiate, how to read people, how to control the stock market. His grandfather showed him how to manipulate deals and make ruthless decisions without hesitation.
All was so new to him. It was like having a culture shock. But on top of that he enjoyed learning new things, those things that he never thought he’ll get a chance to learn.
“Compassion is a weakness in this world,” William told him. “You don’t give people second chances. You don’t trust anyone.”
Jason absorbed every word. He had been naive before, believing in loyalty and kindness. But the world had never been kind to him. Maybe it was time he stopped being kind to it.
He will still be kind, but only to those people who deserved it.
After business lessons came the physical training. Kane was in charge of that.
“You need to learn how to fight,” Kane said, tossing Jason a knife. “Because trust me, people are going to come for you. I already taught you while we’re in prison, but you still hve to learn so much more.” Kane winked at him. “You should ready.”
Jason hesitated before gripping the weapon. Kane didn’t go easy on him. He taught Jason how to use a knife, how to shoot, how to fight hand-to-hand. Every day, Jason left the training ground with bruises and cuts. But he never gave up.
One night, after an especially brutal session, Jason sat on the training mat, wiping blood from his lip.
Kane crouched beside him. “You’re getting better. You’re a real fast learner, sir.” Kane clapped his hands.
Jason scoffed. “Still not good enough.” He wiped the blood in his lips as he stared at Kane.
Kane smirked. “You will be.”
---
One evening, his grandfather called him into his office. The room was massive, filled with expensive furniture and old books. William stood by the window, staring out at the city below.
“Grandpa, you have called for me.” Jason entered and stood behind the back of William.
“We have enemies, Jason,” he said without turning around.
Jason tensed. He knew this conversation was coming.
“The people who killed your father… they’re still out there. And they want you dead, too.”
Jason clenched his fists. “Who are they?” Thousands of questions now were swarming his head.
William turned to him, his eyes dark. “A powerful group. They have money, power, and no mercy. THey can smash us, so we need to be careful and be very vigilant, especially you.” Willian grimaced.
Jason’s heart pounded. “Why did they kill my father?”
“Because he was weak,” William said coldly. “He wanted out of this life. He thought he could escape. But there is no escape from power, Jason. Once you have it, people will always try to take it from you.”
Jason swallowed hard. He had spent his whole life running, trying to survive. But now, he had a chance to fight back. Is he that strong now? He still felt like he’s got nothing to offer.
William stepped closer. “That is why I am training you. You need to be ready. Because one day, they will come for you.”
Jason nodded. He had no intention of dying without a fight. “I am not yet ready, granpa. But I am trying every single day so that I can fight in the future.”
Willian nodded in approval. “Very good.”
---
A week later, his grandfather brought up something unexpected.
“You should get plastic surgery,” William said over dinner.
Jason froze. “What?”
William set down his glass. “You’re going to take over this empire one day. Your appearance… it doesn’t suit a man of power.”
Jason felt a wave of anger rise in his chest. He had been called ugly his whole life. Bullied, beaten, laughed at. And now his own grandfather was suggesting he change his face?
“No,” Jason said firmly.
William raised an eyebrow. “No?”
Jason clenched his fists. “I want to keep my face. I want to see who treats me differently because of it. I want to know who’s real and who’s not.”
His grandfather studied him for a long moment, then let out a small chuckle. “You’re stubborn. Just like your father.”
Jason didn’t respond. He wasn’t changing for anyone.
William leaned back in his chair. “Fine. Keep your face. But don’t let it make you weak.”
Jason’s jaw tightened. “I won’t.”
---
Months passed. Jason’s body grew stronger, his mind sharper. He learned how to think like a businessman, how to fight like a soldier, and how to survive like a king.
One night, Kane handed him a gun. “You’re ready.”
Jason held the weapon, feeling its weight in his hands. He had come so far. He wasn’t the scared, beaten-down kid anymore.
He was something else now.
Something dangerous.
Kane smirked. “Let’s see what you can do.”
Jason raised the gun, aimed at the target, and pulled the trigger.
The shot echoed through the room.
And Jason knew.
His old life was over. He's ready to face new challenges now.
Now, he was ready for war.
