RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW VISITORS LEAVE
Laughter still continued as Farhad told them stories of his travels abroad and some of the things that he got to experience while being in far away countries."That fishing trip was something else. I couldn't catch even one fish though so I just paid someone else to catch it for me. After that I had a wonderful trout for dinner. Ah, the Maldives was really something."Alarick laughed and relaxed on his seat. "The great Farhad Dubois couldn't get even one fish? I don't believe it. What about all those times you caught a bunch and flaunted them in all our faces?"Alarick could see Farhad flush a bit."Last time was different. I swear it was because I didn't take my lucky fishing rod with me. I left my home unprepared." Alarick chuckled."Okay, okay. I'll take your word for it."Scarlett sat up and asked a question."So, Alarick, what's happening in your personal life? I know you've been avoiding this question ever since we came here but really I'm just dying to know."Farhad placed a
RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW MASQUERADE THEMED
Alarick walked back into the mansion once the Dubois' car was out of sight. A masquerade ball. The idea had just popped into his head but nonetheless it was a good one. He had to make preparations for that layer today but he had to speak to his father first.Alarick went up to his father's bedroom and knocked."Come in."Cillian's voice echoed out of the room allowing Alarick to enter. Cillian was watching a video on his phone while eating an early lunch but when Alarick entered the paused it and set his phone on his bed."You're back early. That's good to see. How did your meeting with Henry Dumont go?"Alarick went over to the desk in the workspace in the corner of the room and sat down on the empty chair. He chuckled."It was eventful. I saw some things that I didn't need to see but nevertheless I got the job done..."Cillian dropped his cutlery and raised an eyebrow."Eventful in what way?""I caught Dumont having extramarital affairs with his secretary in his office.""Wow. RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW NIGHTMARE
Alarick opened his eyes and noticed he was in a field. The grass beneath his feet was soft. The cool wind danced around the blades of grass on the ground and the trees swayed by the force of it. It was all so serene. Blonde hair entered Alarick's area of vision for a moment. He blinked for a second and it had disappeared. He turned around looking for the hair he was sure that he just saw. He saw no one. Only he stood in the field. After Alarick had given up, laughter filled his ears. The sound seemed to be coming from everywhere in the field. He turned around and just like before he saw no one. The laughter continued and his expression dropped. He knew whose laughter that was. How could he not?“Grace? Grace, please come out.”Obeying the command, a hand touched Alarick’s shoulder causing him to turn around. There stood a woman with a sad look and a small smile on her face. Her white knee length toga like gown rippled as the wind blew through it and her hair swayed in the wind slightl
RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW HER TANTRUM BACKFIRED
Alarick sat up straight on his bed with his head in his hands, groaning as he just woke up. It was early afternoon. After having a nightmare and working till the early hours of the morning, he had finally been tired enough to fall asleep which was why he woke up by this time. He didn’t bother going to meet Charlotte, he had already made arrangements for designers to visit her today and she would be busy picking her outfit for the coming event. He would check in after work to see what she had decided to wear.He arrived at work less than an hour later and began to sort through his agenda for the day. He didn’t usually come to work by this time, but he was still the boss so there was nothing wrong with taking a few hours in the morning to rest after having a restless night. Alarick stretched a bit as he stood hours later. He had been sitting down at his desk for the whole day. He never stood up once to do anything else since he had already spent his morning at home. But at least the d
RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW PREPARATIONS
The day of the event finally arrived and the King mansion was in disarray. People ran around trying to put things in order and caterers jostled crates containing drinks and food for the event. Alarick had told them that he wanted it all to be perfect and the staff strived to achieve that, constantly changing their views and opinions on the room to make the hall amazing for the night. Everything was in slight chaos. Charlotte had apologised to him after he had ordered her to make her own gown. It was an impossible task which he knew, because she had no experience with sewing. He had accepted the apology but he didn’t send for any new gowns for her. Those gowns she had rejected were custom made by the designer and brought to his home personally to show their joy for him even selecting an outfit from their collection. Did she know how much those gowns cost? Of course she didn't, if not she wouldn't have spewed such nonsense in his presence. But he agreed to let the designer and her team
RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW FASHIONABLY LATE
Evening had fast approached and everything was set for the ball. The hall was arranged and decorated, the hor d'oeuvres and wine flutes were also placed intricately on the tables for the guests' satisfaction. The lobby where the guests would arrive looked amazing and fit with the theme of the ball. So far, Alarick was pleased with how it was all organized.Alarick stood at the mirror after putting on his outfit. He smiled at his reflection. He looked amazing especially after he had trimmed his growing stubble. Now, he had more of a sexy bachelor look rather than a homeless man look in his opinion but apart from his face, he really had to thank Giovanni for the fit of the suit. That man did know how to do his job.He checked his watch. It was about ten minutes before the guests would start to arrive. He had to check up on Charlotte before then. Alarick took the box that sat on his bedside drawer and walked out of his bedroom. He got to Charlotte's door and knocked. Once again, the woma

Alarick let go of her hand and rolled his eyes as Clarice stepped forward and brought out a hand."Oh, so she is the date who you thought abandoned you. It doesn't seem like it."Charlotte giggled and took the woman's hand. Alarick took a glass of champagne from a waiter who was walking by and started to drink."I don't think there's anything wrong with us ladies wanting to look beautiful for our men." Charlotte said.Alarick choked at her words but quickly composed himself before anyone noticed it. Clarice winked at Charlotte. She then proceeded to look at her husband."I know all too well and sometimes they don't even notice." Clarice responded and though it was meant to be a joke, Alarick could detect the slight resentment in her tone. While Charlotte and Clarice shared a laugh, Alarick stepped forward and placed a hand on Charlotte's waist. His touch made her shiver for a second but she calmed her nerves and kept a straight face."I can see that both of you are getting along quit
RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW HANDLING THE INTRUDER
"Again, thank you all so much for being able to attend. Enjoy the rest of the night."The crowd clapped as Alarick rounded up his speech and left the stage in a hurry. He had to cut his speech short because of what he saw. How he saw that man handle Charlotte. Normally it wouldn't be his problem but it pissed him off to no end to see another man touch her so roughly especially when it was in his own home. He didn’t bother analysing why it bothered him, what mattered now was putting the man in his place. As Alarick walked over to the man and Charlotte, the crowd who kept clapping for him followed his movement and soon enough everyone knew where he was headed to. Their focus turned to Charlotte and the man and they all kept quiet to watch what was going to happen next."Let me go." Charlotte said as she still tried to pry the man's fingers off of her arm. He was too drunk to notice that people were staring in their direction now and he was causing a scene. The man leaned in and whispe

VICTORY AT LAST
The judge walked back into the courtroom and the room immediately turned quiet. She took her seat silently and looked at the jury. It wasn't a guess what the jury would pick. The massive amount of compelling evidence that was shown was more than enough to convince everyone in the room of who was innocent and who was guilty. She turned back to the crowd while hitting her gavel. "Court is now in session. I have to ask both sides. Does either the prosecution or the defense have anything else to say in this case?"Both sides of the court shook their heads, no one wanting to come forward and say another word. The judge turned to the jury."Has the jury come to a decision?"A man from the jury stood up."Yes we have, your honor.""Could you read it out for the court to hear?"The man opened the envelope in his hands and brought out the paper. He looked at it and read."In the case of Alarick King versus Grace King, the jury found the defendant, Grace King, guilty of defamation."The crowd i
HIDDEN MOTIVE
It had been a day since the fire incident at the King mansion. Luckily they had all made it out alive and unscathed apart from the man on Alarick's security detail that was shot, Henry. They had disposed of the dead bodies of the attackers and had rounded up the culprits who were caught. It took them some time to get rid of or repair the damage that was done that night but they pushed on especially when they knew they finally had their smoking gun. The thing that would end Grace. The day of the long awaited court hearing had arrived. Alarick sat beside Charlotte and they both sat some distance away from Grace and her new lawyer. Grace eyed them both still angry at the fact that they had survived the fire. The tables were turned. Now they were the prosecution and Grace was the defense. She was going to be the one to fend off their attacks and just like the night she sent men to get rid of Alarick, she would lose. The tension in the air was palpable and with the agreement of both parti
ATTACKERS
The group stayed glued to the floor for some seconds when some of Alarick's security detail barged into the room armed to the teeth and lifted them up from the ground. Alarick, who had landed on Charlotte to shield her from whatever was going on, got up and looked away, avoiding the gaze that Charlotte gave him when she stood upright. Scarlett noticed the exchange and bit her lip till she drew blood. She said nothing though, not wanting to incite a fight when they still weren't sure of what was happening. The guards immediately turned around and pointed their weapons at the door as if expecting for assailants to come running in guns blazing. One of the security men shouted over the deafening noise of gunshots coming from outside."Mr Alarick, are you okay?"Alarick gave the guy a nod before the man who was seemingly the head of the security team turned over and asked the same questions to the women in the group."What about you ladies? Is anyone hurt by any chance?"Charlotte, Scarlet
EXPLOSION
Five days had gone by and there hadn't been a peep from either Grace or the company on the business scene. It had been unusually quiet and Alarick didn't like it. He paced in his study as the sun set with Charlotte watching him while she arranged the papers on the desk. They had finished creating and compiling evidence in their argument for the court hearing that was going to take place in the next two days. All they had to do now was wait. Alarick ran his hands through his hair frustrated. Charlotte knew the feeling all too well. It's not like anything bad had happened but they wanted it to. They needed it for their plan to fully be realized. A few days ago Alarick and Charlotte had come upon a video of Grace commanding someone on the phone to burn Alarick's house down so that he and Charlotte would die in the fire and not be able to make the court date allowing her to legally take the company as her own. Alarick had already put in contingency plans for her attack but him dying and
NEW EVIDENCE
It had taken two grueling days for Charlotte to draw up a defamation lawsuit to give to the court and incidentally the court date was set to take place in a week. On the same day as Alarick's real birthday, the day he was actually born before he was stolen from the King family, not the day he thought was his birthday, given by whoever had found him. But even though that was the case Alarick wasn't enthusiastic about it.Alarick and Charlotte sat in the study and like most times went through some documents that could further increase their chances of winning the case. They had gotten over their little misunderstanding that day in front of the courthouse and planned to just win it all and then move on. As they worked in silence, Alarick's phone rang. He looked for his phone as it continued to ring out amidst the vast amount of documents that covered the desk at the time. In another second or two he found it and checked the caller ID. It was one of the members of the board. Jameson Clay
STILL NOT FORGIVEN
Alarick and Charlotte walked out of the courtroom together. The reporters rushed towards them as the duo stepped out, and they were also swamped by the crowd that gathered outside the building. Alarick's guards did their best to keep the crowd away from the both of them and they succeeded in that, but they weren't successful in quickly taking them through the crowd and to their car because the bystanders were just too much. The light flashing from the several cameras partially blinded them as they tried to leave the premises through the steps but when they found it impossible to, they decided to stay back and answer the questions of the masses so they would be allowed to pass through. Alarick spoke to his men and told them that he wanted to stay a bit and speak to the crowd and the guards relented, opting to just shield him rather than try to break through the impenetrable wall of the people who wanted answers. Just as the group had stopped their descent, the questions came flying."M
A WIN IS A WIN
Everyone that was in the courtroom before the break was called back in as the court was about to be in session. They all took their seats anxious for what was to come next. Some bit their nails and some sucked in a breath, nervous. This was the time that the verdict would be given. Would the prosecution win or the defense win? What would happen if the verdict didn't go the defense's way? What would happen to the company that so many people respected in the business world, not to talk of the King family if the allegations were indeed true and they were involved in shady business? All these were questions that the crowd in the court had. Everyone including the prosecution and the defense. Alarick and Charlotte took their seat as they shared glares with Grace and her lawyer. The tension in the air was palpable. A knife could cut it in half. They were all on their toes. The jury had to decide on this case and all they could do was hope that the verdict went their way.The door opened up
COURT CASE II
“I won’t waste any more time by going through the process of how the evidence was found. Instead, I’ll show everyone the proof and allow them to make a decision for themselves. This is exhibit A.” The lawyer for the prosecution took a file from off his desk and showed it to the whole room. He brought out a copy and gave one to the judge and then another to the jury to peruse. He crossed his fingers and gave it some time before he continued. “In the file that you were given you will find the dealings between the King Corporation and a well-known notorious cartel headed by Lorelie Mandan. This was for the shipment of a large number of guns and possibly explosives to an undisclosed location somewhere in the Mexican desert. The drop off was made by the company and the cartel picked it up. If you still have doubts then I would like to call a witness to the stand.” The lawyer turned to the judge and he gave his go ahead for the witness to be called out to the stand. “I call Matteo Sanch
COURT CASE I
Just as Alarick had predicted there was a huge trial that was going to be held due to what Grace had released to the press. It had only been a day after her false announcement when he had gotten a letter saying that he had to be in court for a hearing concerning his company’s activities. Surprisingly, Charlotte was ready for the hearing. The zeal to crush Grace at her own game had pushed her even more to provide everything that they needed or might need when the court case held. Alarick had also prepared until he was ready to face Grace again and confront her.The day of the court hearing came and the buzz of how the day might end filled the television stations, news outlets, media rooms and even gossip mills with so much anticipation that the hearing was allowed to televise live due to the pressure that was put on the courthouse. The press had used the excuse of trying to educate the masses to get the exclusive content but everyone knew the truth. Everyone knew that no matter what ha
