Charlotte looked at Alarick incredulously. What was the meaning of what he just said? She shook her head in disbelief. No, she must have not heard him right. She must have confused his words because there was no way in the world he would be asking her out, especially with what was going on in their lives right now. How can he lock her up all this time and then suddenly come in here and say she would be his date, and to a public event no less. Wasn’t she his prisoner?

Alarick looked around the room like he would rather be anywhere else but in a room with her.

“You can’t really expect me to believe that you didn’t hear what I said.” He replied to her question and Charlotte made a face.

“I’m convinced I didn’t hear you clearly so for the sake of clarity, say it again.”

Alarick gave her a mild glare.

“You are going to be my date to the annual ball that I am throwing here at the mansion in the next two weeks. Did you hear me clearly now?”
