Chapter 12 Master
"However, the Lorimer family is relatively well-known in Cromford City, so the matter of the successor can't be decided on a whim. There's going to be a press conference next Tuesday regarding the re-establishment of the company's projects—I'll make the official announcement for my successor on that day!"

With that, Nora turned and left the conference room.

Luke sneered at Vivian and Marcus. "I'll show you two what despair truly feels like!"

"What? You managed to get 500 million dollars in investments?" Lisa Childe gaped at Vivian.

"Yes, I did! But that's beside the point, Mom. I won the bet, which means I'll soon be the next head of the Lorimer family!" Vivian sounded overjoyed. She felt like she could finally hold her head high.

"Has Madam Nora agreed to it?" Lisa looked doubtful.

"Grandma said she'll make the announcement next Tuesday, during the press conference!" Vivian answered firmly, making Lisa's heart settle in her chest.

"That's great! Once you become the successor, I'd like to see whether anyone would dare look down upon me!"

Lisa stuck her hands on her hips, looking proud. Then, when she saw Marcus standing nearby, she glared at him and shouted, "Why are you just standing there, you fool? Go cook! Are you trying to make me starve?"

She would never be happy with his presence, but the fact that her daughter, the future head of the Lorimer family, was married to such a loser only added insult to injury!

She was already starting to think of ways to get rid of him.

"Mom, don't be so mean to Marcus. I only managed to win the bet because of—" Vivian was about to tell Lisa the truth when she saw Marcus shake his head at her. She glared at him and said, "Forget it. I'm not gonna bother about you from now on! I'm gonna take a bath."

She headed to her room.

Marcus shrugged and headed into the kitchen to cook. He'd only done those things to make her happy. He didn't care what others thought of him.

The next day, Marcus took Vivian to work on his motorcycle.

As they passed by Hingbrook Hills, Vivian asked Marcus to pull over. "Becoming the head of the Lorimer family is only the first step. My ultimate goal is to own one of the villas there!" She took in a deep breath and gazed up at the luxurious buildings on the hill.

Hingbrook Hills was renowned for being a neighborhood that only the wealthiest could afford. It was also a place where only Cromford City's elite families had the right to reside.

"Do you like it there?" Marcus gazed at her dotingly.

"Of course! It's my dream to live there!" Vivian returned to her senses and checked the time. "Come on. We have to get going, or I'll be late!" She tugged at his shirt.

"Alrighty. Hold on tight!" Before speeding off, Marcus gave the villas one last glance.

He smiled faintly.

Ten minutes later, Marcus had just stopped before the Lorimer Group's entrance when a shiny BMW pulled up beside them.

"My, my. If it isn't the wonderful Vivian Lorimer who's just managed to get a 500-million-dollar investment. Aren't you afraid of disgracing the Lorimer family by taking a motorcycle to work?"

A scantily-clad woman got out of the BMW and snickered. She was Luke's younger sister, Faye Lorimer.

"Ignore her. Let's go." Vivian didn't want to squabble with a woman who was known for being shrew-like.

"Stop right there!" Faye's blood boiled when she saw them ignore her. She hurried forward to stand in their way. "Why are you in such a hurry to leave after running into me? Have you done something that's giving you a guilty conscience? Well, I'm here today to tell you that people who can only afford to ride motorcycles should know their place and stop dreaming about being able to drive expensive cars like mine. God knows nothing good can come from that!"

She wanted to give them a warning and avenge Luke.

"Is your car that expensive?" Marcus pretended to look shocked.

"Duh. This car cost more than 300 thousand dollars. You wouldn't be able to afford a single tire even if you were to go hungry for the next decade!" Faye said scornfully.

In her eyes, Marcus was nothing but a piece of trash.

Since he'd responded to her, she had to take this opportunity to humiliate him as much as possible. She continued contemptuously, "Don't think of yourself too highly, you vermin. Just because you're Vivian's matrilocal husband doesn't mean anything. At most, you're a useless piece of shit! You can't even afford to buy something that has four wheels, yet you insist on sending your wife to work. Could you be any more shameless?"

Faye spoke loudly, which soon attracted the attention of many of the Lorimer family members that were coming to work.

Suddenly, the crowd became abuzz. "Fuck, what did I just see? That's an extended Rolls-Royce Phantom!"

"One of those costs several million, and … Fuck, there are twenty of them in total!"

"What the hell? Is there some hot shot in Camron State that's here for a visit? Wait, no. Look at the direction those cars are headed. They seem to be coming toward us!"

The envy of the crowd was apparent.

Before long, the twenty Rolls-Royce Phantoms stopped before the Lorimer Group's building in a neat semicircle.

An old man in a sharp suit soon got out of the car in the middle and made his way to the building's entrance. He stopped before Marcus and saluted respectfully.

"Please get in the car, Master!" he said.
