When I opened my eyes, I was standing in the middle of a goblin village, surrounded by angry-looking goblins. My heart pounded in my chest as I took in my surroundings. The village was a chaotic mess of crude huts and makeshift buildings, with goblins running around in all directions. A large cauldron sat next to me, filled with bubbling green liquid. And dangling above it, I could see three people - two women and a man - who looked like they were about to be cooked alive.
My mind raced as I tried to come up with a plan. I looked down at my wrists, and the two symbols - one for heaven and one for earth - that were now branded onto my skin. With a deep breath, I focused my mind on my black katana and willed it to my hand. I felt a rush of energy coursing through my body, and I was holding it once again.
A commanding voice bellowed from one of the larger goblins near me, its guttural words unfamiliar to my ears. Thanks to Metatrons gifts, I understood its meaning: “Kill the intruder.”Despite the chaos around me, my ADHD-enhanced senses allowed me to anticipate the imminent danger. I sensed the first strike coming from behind, a goblin sword aimed at my vulnerable back. Reacting with lightning-fast reflexes, I spun around and deflected the blade with my katana, the point facing down for a counter-attack.
As I swiftly pivoted, I executed a half-circle motion with my sword, bringing it down in a diagonal slash that cut through the goblin's neck like butter, killing it instantly. Although a shudder of revulsion briefly passed through me at the thought of taking a life, my rational mind reminded me that I was fighting for my own survival and that of the three strangers who were counting on me to protect them.
I scanned my surroundings for any further threats and saw three more goblins hurtling toward me from different directions. One charged straight ahead, while the other two flanked me. Knowing that I couldn't parry all three attacks simultaneously, I made a split-second decision and charged the goblin in front of me.
As I closed in on my target, I could see the surprise etched on its ugly little face as my sword sliced through its arm in one swift stroke. The force of my attack propelled the goblin backward, and it stumbled into the large cauldron filled with bubbling, viscous liquid. I kicked out hard, sending the cauldron tumbling over and spilling its contents over the goblins on the other side.
The boiling liquid splashed onto their skin, causing them to scream in agony as their flesh seared and bubbled. The acrid smell of burning flesh filled my nostrils, and I knew that I had to keep moving if I wanted to stay alive."
The other two goblins were about to catch up, and I knew I had to act fast. I couldn’t fully turn to meet them in time to parry aside both blades, but I had to find a way. With my side to them and my feet in an awkward position, the goblin swords came down. I met one sword with the flat of my katana, and to the other goblins' surprise, I used the hilt of my katana to parry the second. Irregular guarding was a nice little skill I picked up from my sensei back on earth.
Without missing a beat, I called out to my second katana, and it appeared in my hand just in time. I swung up with as much force as I could, turning and putting my full body into the slash, and cleaved the two goblins in twain. The sound of their bodies hitting the ground was drowned out by the agonizing screams of the remaining goblins, who were now being scalded by the boiling liquid that had spilled out of the cauldron.
As I turned from the two dead goblins, I sprinted towards the three people who were still tied up and dangling over the now overturned cauldron. I could feel the heat of the boiling liquid rising up towards us. With a swift motion, I slashed the ropes holding them, and they came crashing down onto the ground. The man and one of the women grabbed swords from the fallen goblins, while the other woman began to mutter under her breath, her palms held forward.
The goblins had formed a ring around us, and I counted 18 in total. Fear started to grip me, and I felt the weight of the situation settle heavily on my shoulders. However, the woman who was chanting pointed her hand, palm out, at the goblins in front of her. A ball of flames leapt from her to the goblin ring, growing bigger and bigger until it was about five feet in diameter. It hit the goblins in that area and exploded, sending a small shock wave and killing two of the goblins in the ring.
I marveled at the display of magic before my eyes, thinking to myself, "It seems there is strong magic in this world. I wonder if it will work for me?"
Desperate to defend ourselves, I started to visualize energy gathering in my palm, imagining a basic blue magical energy. Then I focused on the element I wanted, and air seemed to be the best for this case. I had always been good with wind magic, even in my home world. As I looked into my hand, I was surprised to see a small ball of wind already forming.
I put all my effort into willing this to happen, focusing on the form I wanted it to take. A slashing sword that could cut through the goblins in front of me. The energy leapt from my hand, thin strands of wind barely visible to the naked eye. As it made contact with the goblins, they were cut to shreds. My one spell killed five of the goblins in front of me, leaving ten remaining.
The female sorcerer spoke, and another couple of goblins went down. The man and the warrior woman leapt out into the remaining few goblins. Feeling more confident with my newfound power, I charged into battle alongside them, sending the energy of the sharp wind into my swords instead of at the enemy.
I took a deep breath, meeting the first goblin head-on. It was larger than the others, but it didn't matter. I sliced through its weapon, skin, and bone like a hot knife through butter. My blades danced through the air as I kept my momentum, moving from one goblin to the next. The man and warrior woman were just as ferocious, killing with abandon.
As we fought, I felt a power surging within me. The magic that had manifested earlier was growing stronger. With each swing of my blades, I could feel it building, waiting to be unleashed. And when I came across the leader of the goblins, the last one standing, I knew it was time to let it loose.
He tried to speak, but I didn't let him. I decapitated him before a word could leave his lips. And as I stood there, panting and covered in goblin blood, I looked around at the aftermath of our battle.
The bodies of the goblins lay strewn about, lifeless and still. The ground was coated in blood, burn marks from the magic fire scarring the earth in two places. The three who I had saved stared at me, a little wary but otherwise glad to be alive.
I felt a sense of pride and satisfaction wash over me. I had never been in a fight like that before, never used my magic in such a way. But now, I knew that I had the power to protect myself and those around me.
(Writers note: In the past, ADD and ADHD have been called an asset in battle due to the fact that it keeps the mind nimble and allows the afflicted persons to see and understand more of a battlefield. It has also been called “Battle Sense” by some people in the past)
We stared at each other, those few seconds stretching into an eternity. A subtle shift in the man's expression marked his return to the present. His gaze swept over the scene, taking in the aftermath of our battle - the lifeless goblin bodies and the fallen chieftain. Slowly, a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth."Ellie," he addressed the warrior woman, his voice steady, "Collect the ears for the bounty.""Sure thing, Alvin," Ellie's response was as swift as her sword. She approached the nearest fallen goblin and methodically severed its ear with a practiced swing."Eve, go through the camp and secure our belongings," Alvin directed the sorceress. Eve's gaze flitted between her task and me. It was apparent she held a wary curiosity beneath her composed demeanor. As Eve commenced her task, Alvin approached me. His strides were deliberate, purposeful, and his presence carried a mix of gratitude and authority."Well met, traveler," Alvin extended a hand in greeting as he neared me,
Amidst the aftermath, while Ellie diligently gathered the ears of the fallen goblins and Eve continued her methodical looting, I found myself lost in a state of exhilaration. Despite my initial misstep, the aid of Metatron had transported me to this uncharted realm. The very air felt purer than anything I had ever known, each inhalation seemed to infuse me with invigorating oxygen, a testament to the world's lack of pollution. The battle, oh that glorious turmoil, made me feel more alive than ever. It was during such chaos that my senses were heightened to their fullest. Yet, I couldn't dismiss the words of my sensei, echoing with caution about the addictive allure of battle. Control, he emphasized, was the key to wielding such power responsibly.Magic coursed through me, a sensation unlike any I had experienced. My chi, once a mere puddle, now resembled a vast lake, deeper and more potent. The arcane energy of this realm surpassed that of my old world, and with it came the potential
Alvin had a point about the goblins. They were definitely growing more daring. It took us about four hours of walking to reach Valor, the main city in the Valarion Dukedom. It might seem like a long trek for folks in this world, but from what I gathered, it wasn't all that far compared to their usual distances. The nearest farms were just an hour and a half away from where we were. Can't say I'll forget that goblin village in a hurry. The way those creatures were torn up, the whole place a mess of slashed bodies and scorched ground. It was my first real taste of battle. I've been in a few fights before, some pretty bloody ones, but I've never taken a life. Not even in the messed-up world I came from. But there I was, part of a group that had to wipe out those goblins before they could have their feast on Ellie, Eve, and Alvin. In the heat of the moment, it seemed like the only choice, but now I can't help but think about it more.I felt a nudge on my shoulder, snapping me out of my th
As we walked through the gate, the first thing that struck me was how much I stood out. When I had cast the spell to come here, I was wearing the plainest clothes I had – a simple black T-shirt, faded blue jeans, white ankle socks, and scuffed black shoes. As I looked around, I realized that the local attire was quite different. The people of this world were clad in rough woolen shirts and plain wool or leather pants, and their attire, while practical, was far from what I was accustomed to. It didn't take long to notice the curious glances I was receiving from passersby."I need to get my hands on some clothes as soon as possible," I mumbled to myself, realizing the urgency of blending in.The city itself was a sight to behold. It had a charming blend of shops and vendors lining both sides of the bustling streets. On one hand, it resembled a vibrant marketplace with stalls selling colorful fruits and vegetables, while on the other, it featured quaint shops peddling everything from clo
The man with the dagger swore and turned; he saw us standing just to the side of the doorway, gave us a glare, and started stomping away, out of the room. The victorious man was large, towering at about six feet, and at this moment, he was shirtless, displaying a chiseled, muscular physique. His skin bore the creamy shade of white, adorned with numerous scars on his chest, each a testament to past battles. His thick black beard and mustache framed brown eyes that held the intensity of a seasoned warrior. Brown hair cascaded in a ponytail down to the middle of his back. Wiping the sweat off himself, he walked up to us, acknowledging Lilly.“Another hopeful, Lilly, that’s the fourth one today,” he remarked, his voice deep and slightly gravelly, but it carried a certain warmth.“Yes, Guildmaster, a new record, I believe,” Lilly replied with a hint of amusement. “This is Jordan, he saved Alvin’s group in the forest from a village of goblins and wants to join us here.”“I can vouch for his
I awoke pretty early, feeling well-rested even though I went to sleep late. My insomnia always keeps me up late at night. I yawned and stretched as I sat up. The sun had barely crested the horizon. I felt a bit sore after the fighting and walking yesterday, as well as the fight with Argus to become a member of the Adventurers guild, so I decided to do some stretches. Afterward, I recalled that Metatron had told me that he had put my survival kit from back home in my new bag. I called it with my mind, focusing on my new marks on each wrist, one the Japanese symbol for heaven and the other wrist the symbol for earth, and in each of my hands I now held a forty-pound cat litter container.Only, the litter had long since been gone. I used these because they were waterproof containers and they were big enough to fit all of my survival gear. I opened them up and started to take inventory of what I had. I originally put these together in case of a natural disaster or apocalyptic situation bac
The revelation of Alvin's true identity as the Duke and his brother's role as the King had left my head spinning. Standing before King Alfred, Alvin's brother, I managed to gather my wits and address the king with a respectful bow, expressing my gratitude for the opportunity to help in their time of need."My apologies, your highness," I said automatically, bowing slightly to the king. I couldn't afford to stand there gawking, so I mentally slapped myself and continued, "I'm just glad that I was there to help in their time of need.""As am I," King Alfred replied with a warm smile. He then turned to Alvin, his tone laced with concern. "Alvin, you really must consider your station. Cavorting as you have done, without even an heir to take your place if one of your adventures takes your life. You even bring your wife with you, I know she is a very skilled magic user, but you take too many chances."Alvin sighed, rolling his eyes playfully at me. It seemed this topic was a frequent source
Sunlight filtered through the inn's curtains, gently coaxing me awake from a night of deep slumber. As I blinked away the remnants of sleep, I couldn't help but appreciate the reassuring weight of my new knighthood signet ring adorning my finger. The previous day had been a whirlwind of revelations and achievements, and now, with the dawn of a new day, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. As I rose from my cozy bed at the First Inn, I couldn't help but reflect on the incredible journey that had led me to this magical and challenging world, filled with the promise of adventures yet to come.Leaving my room behind, I made my way to the inn's dining area. The friendly waitress promptly approached to take my breakfast order, which I decided should consist of bacon, sausage, and eggs. Glancing at the menu, I couldn't help but notice that the breakfast offerings were rather limited, notably missing one of my Earthly favorites: pancakes. I mused about the possibility of introducing them to thi
